The aim of this study was to characterize the semen Pimelodus britskii through different collection methods and hormonal doses. The experiment was run in two reproductive periods, November/2011 to March/2012 and October/2012 to March/2013. In the first breeding season (Experiment 1 ) in all months 12 fish were divided into two groups, one experimental group with Carp Pituitary Extract - EHC (3.0 mg.kg- 1) and a group without hormonal induction, after 240 units accumulated thermal-UTA fish from both groups were euthanized and had their macerated testes. In the second reproductive period (Experiment 2 ) 30 fish were divided into five groups for comparison of different doses of human Chorionic Gonadotropin-hCG and EHC in spermiation (T1: Control, T2: 3,0mg.kg-1 EHC, T3: 0,5 mg.kg-1 +3,0 mg.kg-1 EHC , T4: 0,5 mg.kg-1 +7,0 mg.kg-1 EHC , T5: 200UI.kg-1 hCG ) , and in this period the same fish were used every month, and after 240 UTA semen was collected by abdominal massage. Motility and sperm velocity were evaluated through the CASA software (Computer Assisted Sperm Analysis). The seminal variables using Statistica 7.0. Through the soaking, there was color change (white to yellow), pH (6 to 7) and sperm concentration (11,9x109±4,16x109 to 9,15x109±3,55x109 spermatozoa/mL-1). The volum months showed relationship between treatments (p<0,05). For all copies motility was higher in November/2011, decreasing gradually until February/2012. The same occurred with the values of the IGS (p<0,05), showing the action of hormonal induction in seminal volume ...O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar o sêmen de Pimelodus britskii através de diferentes métodos de coleta e doses hormonais.

Abstract The Steindachneridion parahybae is an endangered catfish from Brazil and strategies applied for gametes optimization are necessary. The aim of this study was to assess inseminating doses and water volume upon the fertilization, hatching rates and percentage of normal larvae in S. parahybae . Was used a randomized design in factorial scheme (4×4) with four inseminating doses: 1.0×104, 1.0×105, 1.0×106, 1.0×107spermatozoa oocyte-1 and four volumes of water: 1, 35, 65 and 95mL of water g-1 of oocytes. The combination of doses and volumes were performed in triplicates (n=48). Each incubator (1.5L of useful volume) with 1g of oocytes was considered as an experimental unit. Significant interaction between inseminating doses and volumes of water to the values of the fertilization rates and quadratic effect of doses and volume for the values of hatching rates were observed. The doses and volumes did not influence the percentage of normal larvae (87.70±5.06%). It is recommended the use of 5.5×106 spermatozoa oocyte-1 and 1mL of water g-1 of oocytes during in vitro fertilization procedure. These results allowed us to develop new biotechnological strategies applied to the conservation of S. parahybae

ABSTRACT. This work evaluated five classes of weight of bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) seeking to define the ideal slaughter weight for the species. We used 79 bullfrogs, distributed in a completely randomized design (class 1 < 100 g (n = 10); class 2 from 101 to 150 g (n = 17); class 3 from 151 to 200 g (n = 24); class 4 from 201 to 250 g (n = 14); and class 5 >251 g (n = 14)), which were euthanized, weighted and gutted. For the carcass yield, we weighed the clean torso, thighs, liver, skin and head. The clean torso was subjected to chemical composition analysis. The carcass yield was, on average, 49% with no difference between weight classes (p > 0.05). The yield of posterior thighs was significantly higher for the lower weight class, which also presented higher percentage of paws (28.37 ± 0.63 and 9.33 ± 0.21, respectively) (p < 0.05). The percentages of visceral fat and skin showed a progressive increase along with the weight of the animals; the class with individuals weighing 201-250 grams showed the higher values (p < 0.05). The chemical composition indicated that individuals above 251 grams showed lower values of ether extract and higher values of crude protein (0.99 ± 0.14 and 15.80 ± 0.64, respectively) (p < 0.05). So, it is recommended the slaughter of bullfrogs weighing more than 201 grams, because of better yield and meat quality

This study was carried out to evaluate the morphometric characteristics, the yield and the centesimal composition of different cuts of the Barbado's (Pinirampus pirinampu) flesh, captured in the Itaipu Reservoir. Were used 55 animals randomly distributed into three classes of body weight [less than 620 g (n = 15), between 620 and 1.120 g (n = 16) and greater than de 1.120 g (n = 24)]. Were measured the standard length (SL), the total length (TL), the head length (HL), the head height (HH), the trunk length (TRL), the trunk height (TH) and width of the trunk (WT). Then were established the morphometric relationships: (HL/SL), (HL/HH), (SL/TL), (WT/TRL), (WT/TH) (TH/TRL). Afterwards were measured the flesh's cut yield and the residue waste yield called: trunk (TC), fillet (FILLET), abdominal fillet (AF), head (HEAD), viscera (VISC), fin, spine and skin (SKSF). The levels of moisture, ash, fat and crude protein from FILLET and AF were determined. The body weight affected (P<0.05) the WT/TRL, WT/TH, TH/TRL, TR, FILLET, HEAD and SKSF, however didn't affected the centesimal parameters. In conclusion, the Barbado (Pinirampus pirinampu) has allometric growth and the flesh processing from fishes with more than 620 g provides better yields of edible parts. In addition, the chemical composition of meat suggests its potential for use in the manufacture of artisanal or industrial products
