Studying newborn neutron stars by the transient emission after stellar collapses and compact binary mergers
The formation of neutron stars (NSs), both from collapses of massive stars
and mergers of compact objects, can be usually indicated by bright transients
emitted from explosively-ejected material. In particular, if the newborn NSs
can rotate at a millisecond period and have a sufficiently high magnetic field,
then the spin-down of the NSs would provide a remarkable amount of energy to
the emitting material. As a result, super-luminous supernovae could be produced
in the massive stellar collapse cases, while some unusual fast evolving and
luminous optical transients could arise from the cases of NS mergers and
accretion-induced collapses of white dwarfs. In all cases, if the dipolar
magnetic fields of the newborn NSs can be amplified to be as high as
G, a relativistic jet could be launched and then a gamma-ray burst can be
produced as the jet successfully breaks out from the surrounding

Short-range order and its impacts on the BCC NbMoTaW multi-principal element alloy by the machine-learning potential
We employ a machine-learning force field, trained by a neural network (NN)
with bispectrum coefficients as descriptors, to investigate the short-range
order (SRO) influences on the BCC NbMoTaW alloy strengthening mechanism. The NN
interatomic potential provides a transferable force field with density
functional theory accuracy. This novel NN potential is applied to elucidate the
SRO effects on the elasticity, vibrational modes, plasticity, and strength in
the NbMoTaW multi-principal element alloy (MPEA). The results show the strong
attraction among Mo-Ta pairs forming the local ordered B2 structures, which
could be tuned via temperature and improved by Nb content. SRO increases the
elastic constants and high-frequency phonon modes as well as introduces extra
lattice friction of dislocation motion. This approach enables a rapid
compositional screening, paves the way for computation-guided materials design
of new MPEAs with better performance, and opens avenues for tuning the
mechanical properties by processing optimization.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figure
The cosmic ray test of MRPCs for the BESIII ETOF upgrade
In order to improve the particle identification capability of the Beijing
Spectrometer III (BESIII),t is proposed to upgrade the current endcap
time-of-flight (ETOF) detector with multi-gap resistive plate chamber (MRPC)
technology. Aiming at extending ETOF overall time resolution better than 100ps,
the whole system including MRPC detectors, new-designed Front End Electronics
(FEE), CLOCK module, fast control boards and time to digital modules (TDIG),
was built up and operated online 3 months under the cosmic ray. The main
purposes of cosmic ray test are checking the detectors' construction quality,
testing the joint operation of all instruments and guaranteeing the performance
of the system. The results imply MRPC time resolution better than 100,
efficiency is about 98 and the noise rate of strip is lower than
1() at normal threshold range, the details are discussed and
analyzed specifically in this paper. The test indicates that the whole ETOF
system would work well and satisfy the requirements of upgrade
Pengaruh sense of school belonging terhadap student's misbehavior
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahu pengaruh sense of school belonging terhadap student’s misbehavior. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian korelasional dengan menggunakan teknnik pengumpulan data berupa skala likert yaitu skala sense of school belonging dan skala student’s misbehavior masing masing terdiri dari 30 aitem yang sudah melalui uji coba. Skala sense of school belonging memiliki reabilitas sebesar 0,899 sedangkan skala student’s misbehavior memiliki reabilitas sebesar 0,924. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 144 siswa dari jumlah populasi sebesar 576 siswa. Pengambilan data menggunakan simple random sampling. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh sense of school belonging terhadap student’s misbehavior dengan nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05. Dalam table model summary pada analisis regresi linier sederhana, sense of school belonging memberikan pengaruh sebesar 17,7% terhadap student’s misbehavior. Pada table correlation, terdapat nilai koerfisien korelasi sebesar -0,420 yang berarti semakin tinggi sense of school belonging maka semakin rendah student’s misbehavior yang dilakukan oleh siswa
A strategy for emergency treatment of Schistosoma japonicum-infested water
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Schistosomiasis japonica, caused by contact with <it>Schistosoma japonicum </it>cercaria-infested water when washing, bathing or production, remains a major public-health concern in China. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of a suspension concentrate of niclosamide (SCN) on killing cercaria of <it>S. japonicum </it>that float on the water surface, and its toxicity to fish, so as to establish an emergency-treatment intervention for rapidly killing cercaria and eliminating water infectivity.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>At 30 min after spraying 100 mg/L SCN, with niclosamide dosages of 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 g/m<sup>2</sup>, the water infectivity reduced significantly and no infectivity was found at 60 min after spraying SCN. The surface of static water was sprayed with 100 mg/L SCN, the peak concentration was found at 0 min, and the solution diffused to site with a water depth of 10 cm after 10 min. 30 min later, SCN diffused to the whole water body, and distributed evenly. After spraying 100 mg/L SCN onto the surface of the water with a volume of(3.14 × 20<sup>2</sup>×50)cm<sup>3</sup>, with niclosamide dosages of 0.02 g/m<sup>2</sup>, 96 h later, no death of zebra fish was observed.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>By spraying 100 mg/L SCN, with a niclosamide dosage of 0.02 g/m<sup>2 </sup>onto the surface of <it>S. japonicum</it>-infested water, infectivity of the water can be eliminated after 30-60 min, and there is no evident toxicity to fish. This cercaria-killing method, as an emergency-treatment intervention for infested water, can be applied in those forecasting and early warning systems for schistosomiasis.</p

Safety and efficacy of Hypofractionated stereotactic radiosurgery for high-grade Gliomas at first recurrence: a single-center experience.
BACKGROUND: The optimal treatment for recurrent high-grade gliomas (rHGGs) remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of hypofractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (HSRS) as a first-line salvage treatment for in-field recurrence of high-grade gliomas.
METHODS: Between January 2016 and October 2019, 70 patients with rHGG who underwent HSRS were retrospectively analysed. The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and secondary endpoints included both progression-free survival (PFS) and adverse events, which were assessed according to Common Toxicity Criteria Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 5. The prognostic value of key clinical features (age, performance status, planning target volume, dose, use of bevacizumab) was evaluated.
RESULTS: A total of 70 patients were included in the study. Forty patients were male and 30 were female. Forty-nine had an initial diagnosis of glioblastoma (GBM), and the rest (21) were confirmed to be WHO grade 3 gliomas. The median planning target volume (PTV) was 16.68 cm3 (0.81–121.96 cm3 ). The median prescribed dose was 24 Gy (12–30 Gy) in 4 fractions (2–6 fractions). The median baseline of Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) was 70 (40–90). With a median follow-up of 12.1 months, the median overall survival after salvage treatment was 17.6 months (19.5 and 14.6 months for grade 3 and 4 gliomas, respectively; p = .039). No grade 3 or higher toxicities was recorded. Multivariate analysis showed that concurrent bevacizumab with radiosurgery and KPS \u3e 70 were favourable prognostic factors for grade 4 patients with HGG.
CONCLUSIONS: Salvage HSRS showed a favourable outcome and acceptable toxicity for rHGG. A prospective phase II study (NCT04197492) is ongoing to further investigate the value of hypofractionated stereotactic radiosurgery (HSRS) in rHGG
