Crystal dynamics of forming ε-martensite with {334}α habitus planes in titanium

Formation of crystals with {334}α habitus planes often observed in titanium during the BCC-HCP (α-ε) reorganization is considered in the context of the dynamic theory of martensitic transformations. It is demonstrated that the fast wave growth of the crystals is started in elastic fields of edge dislocations with lines <11combining overline 0>α and Burgers vectors <001>α. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York

Conditions for the generation of crystons and the interpretation of the σ-ε curve for Ni3Fe single crystals

    No full text
An analysis of conditions is given for the generation of crystons (superdislocation-type carriers of shear) in deformation bands with (hhl) boundaries by generalized Frank-Read sources whose operative segments form a superlattice. It is shown that the type of the σ-ε curves for Ni3Fe single crystals deformed by compression along the [001] direction (ε = 9-47%) can be related to the conditions for the generation of crystons. In a quantitative comparison with experiment, the anisotropy of the shear modulus is taken into account
