The Evolution of Coursebook Evaluation Checklists
Evaluation is one among the five pillars in language teaching. Evaluating teaching materials is a very important professional activity for all ELT teachers. Teachers use textbooks as valuable resources to productively lead teaching and learning activities and to assist students in achieving learning objectives more effectively. According to Tomlinson, the materials evaluation process has two concerns: to examine how the books work for better understanding in the classroom and to present how the pedagogical practices and acquisition are applied. This paper discusses the guidelines for evaluation of the textbook at all stages, i.e., pre-use evaluation, in-use evaluation, and post -use evaluation. Hence, the connectedness between the course book writers and the users in the real classroom can become stronger
FEMINIST CONCERNS IN NADINE GORDIMERâS MY SONâS STORY
Nadine Gordimer, the first Nobel Prize winner of South Africa reflects in her fiction the heart rending racial and political problems in her country ruled by apartheid. Her tenth novel, My Sonâs Story, shows a subtle shift in her literary pursuit by highlighting gender issues in the building of a new nation. Gordimer believes that racial issues should be solved first, later feminist battle be fought. Critics assert that strong and consistent feminist concerns are embedded in Gordimerâs works. Especially these have received central focus in My Sonâs Story, making the novel Gordimerâs unequivocally feminist novel. But Gordimer has never accepted her novel as feministic but the reader can understand the positive evolution of female characters against the background of revolution. It is a tale of a Coloured school master, Sonny who turns out a good speaker and is recruited into the banned African National Congress (ANC) and gets higher positions in it which causes loss of his government job and detention in jail for two years. In prison, he is attracted by Hannah, a blonde activist for an International Human Rights Agency who occasionally visits the detainees. His love affair with her alienates him from his wife Aila, daughter Baby and son Will. Gradually his condition both personally and politically degenerates while Aila and Baby move from passive domestic roles to active political ones when Aila skips bail, Hannah takes a new assignment. Both leave Sonny to take up further political work. Thus, the paper presents gradual degradation of Sonnyâs character and emergence of supremacy of the female characters like Aila, Baby and Hannah in critical, political and historical times through which the novelistâs feminist concerns are reflected
In-Vitro Anthelmintic Potential Of Aqueous And Ethanolic Leaves And Roots Extracts Of Annona Muricata Against Earthworm
Helminths or Parasitic worms of humans may cause chronic and sometimes deadly diseases considered as Neglected Tropical Diseases that infect around two billion people worldwide. Many of synthetic drugs available, for the treatment of various worm infection like alendazole, mebendazole and Ivermectn with more of adverse effects so the need of herbal formulations are essential for teating worm infections.Plants have been used as anthelmintic from ancient times. In our study we selected Annona muricata is well known traditional plant which is used for the treatement of many worm infection without adverse effect.Phytochemical screening was conducted using standard qualitative methods, it reveals that they were rich in secondary metabolite compounds such as alkaloids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids. The in-vitro anthelmintic activity was determined using earthworm. In this ethanolic exctract of 200 mg/ml concentration shows high anthelmintic activity when compared to other concentration of Annona Muricata leaves extrac
Acquired constriction ring syndrome as a cause of inconsolable cry in a child: a case report
Acute constriction ring syndrome (ACRS) is a rare clinical condition characterized by formation of a circumferential constriction ring around an appendage or genitalia. Cases are mostly reported in infants and young children. Early recognition and a definitive treatment are of paramount importance in order to avoid irreversible ischemia and possible auto-amputation. We describe a case of a 14-month-old child presented to casualty with a history of refusal to feed and inconsolable cry. Parents noticed a recent swelling of left third toe. On careful examination the child was found to have an acquired constriction ring secondary to a tightly wrapped hair around left third toe. An urgent surgical decompression was done by the orthopaedic team with complete resolution of symptoms. We summarized the pathophysiology of ACRS underlining the need of awareness in treating physicians. The possible medico legal implications should be kept in mind bearing a suggested link with non-accidental injury

AN EMPIRICAL SURVEY ON HAPPINESS AND HEALTH AMONG WORK FROM HOME EMPLOYEES BELONGING TO IT SECTOR
Many individuals and businesses were affected by the Corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak that occurred in early 2020. Work-from-home (WFH) policies have been implemented by a number of firms as a way of adapting to these changes. The literature on the effects of WFH on health issues, on the other hand, is completely divided. Workâlife balance, happiness, and work stress were all examined in this study as potential predictors of job satisfaction while WFH. COVID-19 was also examined as a factor. This research examines how IT professionals felt about WFH or work from office (WFO) during the COVID-19 epidemic. It also uses individual fixed-effects models to look at how workers' subjective health varies between working at home and working in the office. As a result of the findings in this paper, governments and business leaders may reevaluate the benefits of telecommuting. During the COVID-19 pandemic, communication, organization environment, organizational policies, work satisfaction, and psychological aspects were shown to have a substantial impact on the psychological health of IT personnel

Extended Adjuvant Therapy with Neratinib Plus Fulvestrant Blocks ER/HER2 Crosstalk and Maintains Complete Responses of ER+/HER2+ Breast Cancers: Implications to the ExteNET Trial.
PURPOSE:
The phase III ExteNET trial showed improved invasive disease-free survival in patients with HER2+ breast cancer treated with neratinib versus placebo after trastuzumab-based adjuvant therapy. The benefit from neratinib appeared to be greater in patients with ER+/HER2+ tumors. We thus sought to discover mechanisms that may explain the benefit from extended adjuvant therapy with neratinib.Experimental Design: Mice with established ER+/HER2+ MDA-MB-361 tumors were treated with paclitaxel plus trastuzumab ± pertuzumab for 4 weeks, and then randomized to fulvestrant ± neratinib treatment. The benefit from neratinib was evaluated by performing gene expression analysis for 196 ER targets, ER transcriptional reporter assays, and cell-cycle analyses.
RESULTS:
Mice receiving "extended adjuvant" therapy with fulvestrant/neratinib maintained a complete response, whereas those treated with fulvestrant relapsed rapidly. In three ER+/HER2+ cell lines (MDA-MB-361, BT-474, UACC-893) but not in ER+/HER2- MCF7 cells, treatment with neratinib induced ER reporter transcriptional activity, whereas treatment with fulvestrant resulted in increased HER2 and EGFR phosphorylation, suggesting compensatory reciprocal crosstalk between the ER and ERBB RTK pathways. ER transcriptional reporter assays, gene expression, and immunoblot analyses showed that treatment with neratinib/fulvestrant, but not fulvestrant, potently inhibited growth and downregulated ER reporter activity, P-AKT, P-ERK, and cyclin D1 levels. Finally, similar to neratinib, genetic and pharmacologic inactivation of cyclin D1 enhanced fulvestrant action against ER+/HER2+ breast cancer cells.
CONCLUSIONS:
These data suggest that ER blockade leads to reactivation of ERBB RTKs and thus extended ERBB blockade is necessary to achieve durable clinical outcomes in patients with ER+/HER2+ breast cancer
