This research aimed to determine ethical teacher behaviors according to the opinions of prospective teachers and teachers. In this qualitatively designed study, the phenomenology design was used, and 30 participants were interviewed. Research results showed that the participants understood the responsibilities of teachers, the respect and importance of the teaching profession, effective teaching, developing healthy relationships with school members, and benefiting students and society from teacher\u27s professional ethics. Almost all of the participants stated that the teaching profession should have unique ethical codes for different reasons. Ethical teacher behavior has emerged within the scope of rights and justice, interest and importance to people and the profession, not to harm or benefit, and the boundary of public and private space. Finally, suggestions for improving professional teaching ethics, which can be evaluated in professional, individual, social, organizational, and political contexts, were put forward in the research. It is believed that the research will make a significant contribution to the literature, as it addresses the issue of ethics by taking the views of teachers both prepared for the profession and within the profession, reveals the specific context in Turkey, and reflects descriptions of real-life experiences

Academic Perspective on the Effects of Childhood Traumas on Dissociative Identity Disorder

    Get PDF
It has been proven many times before that there are various connections between childhood and mental illnesses. There are also important connections between childhood and dissociative identity disorder (DID). When we look from the perspective of psychology or human mental health and when it comes to the human factor, that is, holistic health in terms of quality of life, we understand that childhood traumas have a special importance. As a child, a person passes through a tunnel from which he can never return, and in this tunnel, he experiences many things, meets many people, that is, he grows up. While this tunnel is beautiful, fun and colorful for some, it is full of nightmares and trauma for others. In this study, DKB was approached from a broad perspective with different and various topics. There is a gradual process in the treatment of DID and the treatment is focused on psychotherapy. Communication with alters during the DID treatment process is a process that requires sensitivity and professionalism. Sand tray therapy can also be used in communication with alters, especially with child alters. A sand tray on its own is not enough; but it facilitates communication between alters. Sand tray therapy provides non-verbal communication and relaxation with sand (Çınar, Sand Tray Therapy, 2023). Considering dissociative identity disorder only in the presence of sexual abuse and severe physical violence in childhood may cause patients with dissociative identity disorder, which progresses in a milder course, to be overlooked. Sometimes, although the person has a high dissociation capacity, dissociative identity disorder may occur in seemingly minor life events, and a severe DID patient may show low-level symptoms. The important thing is emotional division, which is when the child experiences unwanted experiences and a negative emotion strongly, and the mind responds to this strong emotion with division

ABSTRACT Datura stramonium intoxication: report of a case with psychiatric symptoms Delirium is a common neuropsychiatric syndrome and is often caused by metabolic, systemic disorders and drug or poison intoxication. Though hallucinations, delusions and agitation are sometimes present, the symptoms of delirium are clinically distinct from those induced by other psychiatric disorders. Datura stramonium is a hallucinogenic plant which is a member of belladona alkaloids. The toxic effects of Datura stramonium most often include visual and auditory hallucinations, confusion and agitation. We report a patient who was poisoned with Datura stramonium and presented to the emergency department with psychiatric symptoms.

Background Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a hyperinflammatory condition associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, has emerged as a serious illness in children worldwide. Immunoglobulin or glucocorticoids, or both, are currently recommended treatments. Methods The Best Available Treatment Study evaluated immunomodulatory treatments for MIS-C in an international observational cohort. Analysis of the first 614 patients was previously reported. In this propensity-weighted cohort study, clinical and outcome data from children with suspected or proven MIS-C were collected onto a web-based Research Electronic Data Capture database. After excluding neonates and incomplete or duplicate records, inverse probability weighting was used to compare primary treatments with intravenous immunoglobulin, intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids, or glucocorticoids alone, using intravenous immunoglobulin as the reference treatment. Primary outcomes were a composite of inotropic or ventilator support from the second day after treatment initiation, or death, and time to improvement on an ordinal clinical severity scale. Secondary outcomes included treatment escalation, clinical deterioration, fever, and coronary artery aneurysm occurrence and resolution. This study is registered with the ISRCTN registry, ISRCTN69546370. Findings We enrolled 2101 children (aged 0 months to 19 years) with clinically diagnosed MIS-C from 39 countries between June 14, 2020, and April 25, 2022, and, following exclusions, 2009 patients were included for analysis (median age 8·0 years [IQR 4·2–11·4], 1191 [59·3%] male and 818 [40·7%] female, and 825 [41·1%] White). 680 (33·8%) patients received primary treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin, 698 (34·7%) with intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids, 487 (24·2%) with glucocorticoids alone; 59 (2·9%) patients received other combinations, including biologicals, and 85 (4·2%) patients received no immunomodulators. There were no significant differences between treatments for primary outcomes for the 1586 patients with complete baseline and outcome data that were considered for primary analysis. Adjusted odds ratios for ventilation, inotropic support, or death were 1·09 (95% CI 0·75–1·58; corrected p value=1·00) for intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids and 0·93 (0·58–1·47; corrected p value=1·00) for glucocorticoids alone, versus intravenous immunoglobulin alone. Adjusted average hazard ratios for time to improvement were 1·04 (95% CI 0·91–1·20; corrected p value=1·00) for intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids, and 0·84 (0·70–1·00; corrected p value=0·22) for glucocorticoids alone, versus intravenous immunoglobulin alone. Treatment escalation was less frequent for intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids (OR 0·15 [95% CI 0·11–0·20]; p<0·0001) and glucocorticoids alone (0·68 [0·50–0·93]; p=0·014) versus intravenous immunoglobulin alone. Persistent fever (from day 2 onward) was less common with intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids compared with either intravenous immunoglobulin alone (OR 0·50 [95% CI 0·38–0·67]; p<0·0001) or glucocorticoids alone (0·63 [0·45–0·88]; p=0·0058). Coronary artery aneurysm occurrence and resolution did not differ significantly between treatment groups. Interpretation Recovery rates, including occurrence and resolution of coronary artery aneurysms, were similar for primary treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin when compared to glucocorticoids or intravenous immunoglobulin plus glucocorticoids. Initial treatment with glucocorticoids appears to be a safe alternative to immunoglobulin or combined therapy, and might be advantageous in view of the cost and limited availability of intravenous immunoglobulin in many countries. Yapılan istatistiksel analiz sonucunda psikiyatriye başvuran bireylerle diğer bireyler arasında trafikteki öfke düşünceleri ve davranışları açısından anlamlı farklılık olmadığı saptanmıştırMotor vehicles entering our lives and having a number of more than 22 million in our country, in addition to the conveniences it brought to our lives, it caused some problems. Many negative situations such as anger, violence on the highways, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, violation of rules, accidents, loss of life and property affect the lives of people negatively. It has been shown in scientific studies that the feeling of anger in individuals using motor vehicles causes risky vehicle use and traffic accidents. Anger can also be a symptom of a psychiatric disorder in individuals who apply for psychıatry. In this respect, individuals with psychiatric diagnoses and other community members were compared with turkish versions of “driving anger scale” and “driver anger expressions inventory” in terms of angry thoughts and behaviors in traffic. 149 people were the control group and 151 were the individuals who applied to psychiatry polyclinic. According to the statistical analysis, no significant difference was found between the individuals who applied to psychiatry and other individuals in terms of their anger thoughts and behavior
