Temporal changes in carboxylate content of ryegrass with stepwise change in nutrition

A detailed scheme of carboxylate formation and retention by plant tissues as a result of ion uptake and utilization is given. By means of discontinuities in the supply with nutrient ions, carboxylate retention by the tissues of perennial ryegrass was followed as a function of growth. It was found that translocation of potassium nitrate to the shoot and subsequent nitrate metabolism was the only process capable of supplying the shoot with sufficient carboxylates and of removing the excess from the foliage to the root system with maintenance of the normal carboxylate content. Absorbed bicarbonate was a good source of carboxylates in the roots, but the rate of translocation to the plant tops was too slow relative to growth. Therefore, the carboxylate concentration in the foliage fell progressively to one half the normal value. Constancy of carboxylate concentration in the dry matter was related to the early establishment of the proportion of carboxylates to dry material in the new growth, making it independent of subsequent changes in water content of the tissues. Changes in carboxylate concentrations due to changes in the supply were continuous with time. Nitrate caused a depression in the roots during nitrate accumulation, but the nitrate metabolism in the follage made sufficient carboxylates available for replenishment and maintenance of their normal level in the whole plant

Evaluation of the nutrient status of wheat plants

The balance of the principal ionic constituents in plants is reviewed in relation to the requirements for each of the elements, and for total accumulation as reflected in the total cation content (C), the inorganic anion conent (A) and the organic anion content (C-A). The balance in young wheat plants is investigated by means of adding various combinations of the principal ions to the soil. A summary of tests on adequacy of supply with the principal nutrient ions and of accumulation of cations, inorganic anions and organic anions, based on critical values. for contents in the plant material, is presented for diagnosing the nutrient status in relation to capacity for maximum growth

Bestuursrechter en burgerlijke rechter zoeken beiden aansluiting bij de rechtspraak van het EHRM. De inpassing van een ‘redelijke termijn’-vergoeding gebeurt adequaat. Maar het roer moet om bij de bepaling van de omvang van de schadevergoeding. En wie van de hogere EHRM-vergoeding schrikt, moet bedenken dat het de bedoeling is de duur van de procedures naar aanvaardbare proporties terug te brengen

Nitrogen nutrition of rice plants measured by growth and nutrient content in pot experiments. 3. Changes during growth.

Young rice plants cv. IR-5 in flooded sand culture grew better with ammonium than with nitrate as N source; yield differences were initiated by a higher rate of tillering and leaf expansion with ammonium nutrition during the first stage of exponential growth. When complete foliage cover had been obtained and further DM increases were linearly related to growth duration, nitrate was less readily assimilated than ammonium, but growth rate was the same for both forms of N because it was controlled mainly by environment and nutrient supply rather than by leaf area, form of available N or concentration of N in the tissues. Restoration of N supply to an N-depleted culture of well-developed plants showed that ammonium produced an earlier renewal of growth; plants yielded more on a given date than with nitrate although they eventually regained the same rate of linear growth. Availability for ryegrass of cadmium and zinc from dressings of sewage sludge.

In pot trials, perennial ryegrass was grown in soil treated with sewage sludge containing 370 ppm Cd, 4940 ppm Zn and 450 ppm Pb or with equivalent amounts of Cd and Zn as sulphates. Levels of Cd and Zn in herbage in sewage sludge treatments were only about half as high as where the sulphates were used, and unlike in water culture did not increase progressively in subsequent cuts. A plant test for sufficiency of phosphorus based on the phosphorus-nitrogen interaction in sunflower nutrition.

Sunflower plants were alternated between complete nutrient sol. and sol. devoid of either P or N. Successive harvests of top growth were analysed for P and N fractions to follow the time course of depletion and restoration. Under adequate P the TCA-insoluble protoplasmic substance contained 25 mol P/1000 mol N. Unrestrained incorporation of P needed the presence of at least 25 mol inorganic P/1000 mol protoplasmic N; P was adequate with at least 50 mol of total P/1000 mol N converted to proteins and nucleic acids. This ratio agreed with the ratio total P:total N at which max. growth was attained in published work of both field and pot experiments, presumably because most of the N was protein bound. Op 3 mei 1992 is eiser, een politieagent, gewond geraakt bij de aanhouding van een verdachte. Op 14 januari 2000 verzoekt eiser de districtchef om ontheffing van het mobi-liteitsplan, een vergoeding in verband met nalatigheid van de werkgever en een vergoe-ding van de kosten van de civiele procedure. 28 januari 2000 schrijft de leidinggevende van eiser aan de districtchef dat ‘(d)e nasleep van dit incident (…) tot op heden niet naar behoren (is) afgerond’ en dat een tegemoetkoming ‘zeker op zijn plaats is’. De leiding-gevende denkt aan een bedrag van fl. 25.000,- voor het onthouden van de afkoopkeuze. Daarnaast stelt hij voor de ‘civielrechtelijke kosten’ (fl. 11.437,65) te betalen en eiser ontheffing te verlenen van de mobiliteitsverplichting. De districtchef ondertekent deze brief en voorziet hem van de tekst ‘accoord conform voorstel’. De leidinggevende meldt eiser hierna dat (door de districtchef) tot uitkering in overeenstemming met zijn voorstel is besloten. Een kopie van de geaccordeerde brief wordt aan eiser overhandigd en de brief wordt toegevoegd aan eisers personeelsdossier. In februari 2000 ontvangt eiser fl. 11.437,65 en wordt hij ontheven van de mobiliteitsver-plichting. Eiser verzoekt de Politieregio op 13 januari 2003 (ook) het bedrag van fl. 25.000,- over te maken. Dit verzoek wordt afgewezen. Ook een tweede verzoek van ei-ser wordt afgewezen. Eiser dagvaart de Politieregio en vordert een bedrag van € 15.090, 63 (de beloofde fl. 25.000,- plus rente en gemaakte buitengerechtelijke kosten). Eiser meent primair dat de brief met de tekst ‘accoord conform voorstel’ is aan te merken als een (vaststel-lings)overeenkomst. Subsidiair meent eiser dat de verwachting is gewekt dat fl. 25.000,- zou worden betaald en dat het niet uitbetalen van dit bedrag onrechtmatig is. Volgens de Rechtbank Rotterdam kan niet van een overeenkomst worden gesproken. Er is volgens de rechtbank wel sprake van gewekte verwachtingen, maar omdat eiser on-voldoende duidelijk heeft gemaakt dat hij schade heeft geleden door op de gewekte verwachtingen te vertrouwen wijst de rechtbank de vordering af

Schadebegroting, bewijs en waardering

Er zijn weinig terreinen in het civiele recht waar bewijs en waardering zozeer samenkomen als bij de begroting van schade. De oorzaak daarvan ligt in het feit dat bij de vaststelling van de omvang van schade bij uitstek een slag wordt gemaakt van het recht naar de feiten (of zo men wil: andersom). Om dit te illustreren wordt hierna eerst kort iets gezegd over wat schade is en hoe deze wordt begroot. Daarna worden de vertrekpunten voor het bewijs van schade verkend. Vervolgens zal aan de hand van een voorbeeld van bewijs van schade en de waardering hiervan worden geïllustreerd hoe de vertaalslag van het recht naar de feiten vorm krijgt en hoe complex dat proces in feite is
