CHARACTERISTICS OF GIRLS AND FATHERSâ INVOLVEMENT
The study examined the relationship between fathersâ involvement and girlsâ characteristics. A sample of 106 families was engaged in the study consisting of 212 participants; 106 fathers and children. Self-reported data collected by questionnaires were used to examine the relationship between fathersâ involvement and girlsâ characteristics. The study showed that the temperament of girls and schools they attended profoundly influenced fathersâ engagement, interaction, and involvement in their daughters. It also illustrated that within the temperament characteristics of girls, child surgency and effortful control affected how fathers managed their engagement, interaction, and involvement with their daughters amidst the temperament characteristics. It was however recommended that parental education programs should be established to sensitize fathers on fathersâ involvement hindrances and solutions and that child temperament characteristics should be carefully considered in all dealings with children among fathers. Article visualizations
Regulations governing student internship programme in Ghana: a sequential explanatory multi-stakeholder approach
Purpose: This paper seeks to ascertain the regulations governing studentsâ internship programmes in Selected Technical Universities in Ghana.Design/Methodology/Approach: The sequential explanatory mixed methods approach was utilised. Two separate structured questionnaires were administered to 481 students and 299 senior members (lecturers and administrators) of six selected technical universities (TUs); whereas members of industry, executives of business associations and government regulatory bodies in the tertiary sector of Ghanaâs education system were interviewed, using an interview guide. Data was analysed through descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and Constant Comparative Analysis.Findings: There was no well-defined enforceable law requiring TUs to secure internship placement for students, although, some regulatory bodies insisted that TUs showed evidence of their ability to secure placements for their students for industrial training before awarding programme accreditation.Research Limitation/Implication: The study focuses on regulations governing student internship programmes in Ghana. The study concentrated on selected Technical Universities in Ghana.Practical Implication: The knowledge advanced in this study underscores the need for proper synergy between Technical Universities regarding regulation governing student internship which should be spearheaded by the government of Ghana through the Ministry of Education, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission acting as a facilitator, creating interfaces and providing funding and incentives.Social Implication: The Government of Ghana can allow companies some tax exemptions or make the environment business-friendly for companies so that they can expand their operation to accept more interns.Originality/Value: This paper synchronises the perspectives of multiple actors on the regulations governing student internship programmes
Polymerization of propene with tBuNSiMe2C5Me4TiMe2: Effects of trialkylaluminiums as additives
Propene was polymerized at 0 oC with tBuNSiMe2C5Me4TiMe2/MAO. Kinetic features and other parameters indicated quasi-living polymerization. Effects of various trialkylaluminiums as additives have been investigated; it was found that compounds with more bulky groups like iBu3Al, Oct3Al increased the activities significantly whereas Me3Al and Et3Al reduced the activities of the catalyst system. The triad sequence in the 13C NMR spectrum confirmed a syndiotactic-enriched atactic polypropene. KEY WORDS: Polymerization of propene, tBuNSiMe2C5Me4TiMe2, Trialkylaluminiums, Syndiotactic-enriched atactic polypropene  Bull. The Nexus of Cost, Quality and Creativity of Architecture Students in a Typical Nigerian University
Globally, there exists a meaningful connection between the cost of education, quality of works and creative outputs of architectural students which revolves around the architectural design studio. It is on this premise that students are trained to master the vocabularies and understand the tenets of presenting creative works in schools of architecture. The powers of communication becomes the âmodus operandiâ of creative outputs that emerges in 2-D, 3-D or animated formats, otherwise, the activity ends up in futility, mirage experience and mental cramps to the creative world. Previous study in the United Kingdom and Nigeria has identified high cost of architectural education as a barrier to the training of future professionals. This paper examined the connections between the cost, quality and creativity of Architecture students in Covenant University, Nigeria particularly in presentation of their architectural design studio works. Questionnaires were administered to obtain related information from a cross-section of students from the second to the sixth level in the 2014-2015 academic sessions. The result of the study identified studentsâ need for high performance laptops, fees payment as impediment to early resumption and the obvious expensive nature of architectural education as the predictors of creativity in the study context. Furthermore, recommendations stemming from the study suggested remedial actions that could be put in place to reduce the achievement gap between the financially weak and strong students to ennoble their self-esteem, create sense of belonging and develop potentials that are embedded in the students; so as to assist in attaining heights of competence, proficiency and acumen embedded in architectural propriety
The Designersâ Task, Dynamics and Integration of Solar Energy in Buildings
Architectural design studio project experience result in a charade of events that take place within and outside the intellectual domains of the studentsâ designers; both the design studio teachers and practitioners in the field are not unconnected with these realities of knowledge construction in Renewable Energy options. This happens especially when design problems occur to a building and major influences may impinge on the space organization as affected by heat, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting. Such operationalization may result to dysfunction when the knowledge construction of sustainability indices by architectural designers were not properly utilized and integrated in design projects. This study examined a review of Solar Energy systems with respect to designersâ tasks, strategies of integration in Architectural design. A review of design studio works of some selected students as assessed by the jurors and interviews were used to gather the data for the study. The results obtained suggest that although the students were taught aspects of sustainability relevant to the integration of Solar Energy as alternative energy source in buildings, but they may not have utilized and internalized them properly. This is because the responses of the students on sustainability performance of their studio work were skewed and some students indicated little knowledge of some sustainable principles, which had already been incorporated into the curriculum. The study concludes with advocating for Experiential learning in architectural education with the sense of empathy as the user, client and architect-designer of spaces, which portray the principles that are taught in the curriculum of schools
The Influence of Personality Characteristics on Teachers and Students in Architectural Design Studio Projects in Some Selected Nigerian Universities
This study reviewed and analyzed the extroversion-introversion characteristics of teachers and students as well as the
implications of interface issues on architectural design studio outcomes. The study engaged a structured questionnaire to
collect information from a sample of 546 respondents (both students and staff-teachers/mentors). The study found a difference
in design approach of students who preferred acting first before thinking and reflection across selected schools of architecture.
It also found a difference in the design outcomes of students who are usually open and motivated by outside world in the
selected schools. Moreover, the study discovered a difference in design approach of students who enjoy wide variety and
changing relationship in the selected schools. It recommended that the synergy of polar characteristic differences of the
students be better engaged by the design 32 studio teachers during training in school to prepare for professional competency
in practice.

Initial inflammatory response of skeletal muscle to commonly used suture materials: an animal model study to evaluate muscle healing after surgical repair - histopathological perspective
Objectives: To evaluate initial inflammatory response of skeletal muscle to a few commonly used suture materials
for muscle repair namely nylon, polydiaxonone (PDS II), plain catgut and polygalactin 910 which in turn determines the scarring of muscle and loss of function.
Material and Methods: Inflammation and healing of muscle post repair was evaluated in the lateral thigh muscle
(biceps femoris) of 8 adult healthy male Rattus norvegicus. The inflammatory reaction & healing of the skeletal
muscle was evaluated histologically at the end of 48 hours, 1 week and 3 weeks.
Results: At 48 hours post-surgery, Nylon samples showed severe inflammation followed by Catgut and Polygalactin. At 1 week post-surgery, the catgut group demonstrated increased macrophages infiltration while Nylon
demonstrated persistant lymphocytic pro-inflammatory component. PDS sutures elicited minimal inflammatory
response all through.
Conclusion: In the present study the most desirable suture material was determined to be PDS due to its minimal tissue
response and superior handling qualities. However the fact that the presence of macrophages in healing muscle enhances the repair process would be a pointer to create an environment which contains the sustained presence of macrophages
to enhance optimal healing of skeletal muscle in the presence of an ideal suture material

Differentiating Plasmodium falciparum alleles by transforming Cartesian X,Y data to polar coordinates
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Diagnosis of infectious diseases now benefits from advancing technology to perform multiplex analysis of a growing number of variables. These advances enable simultaneous surveillance of markers characterizing species and strain complexity, mutations associated with drug susceptibility, and antigen-based polymorphisms in relation to evaluation of vaccine effectiveness. We have recently developed assays detecting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the <it>P. falciparum </it>genome that take advantage of post-PCR ligation detection reaction and fluorescent microsphere labeling strategies. Data from these assays produce a spectrum of outcomes showing that infections result from single to multiple strains. Traditional methods for distinguishing true positive signal from background can cause false positive diagnoses leading to incorrect interpretation of outcomes associated with disease treatment.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Following analysis of <it>Plasmodium falciparum </it>dihydrofolate reductase SNPs associated with resistance to a commonly used antimalarial drug, Fansidar (Sulfadoxine/pyrimethamine), and presumably neutral SNPs for parasite strain differentiation, we first evaluated our data after setting a background signal based on the mean plus three standard deviations for known negative control samples. Our analysis of single allelic controls suggested that background for the absent allele increased as the concentration of the target allele increased. To address this problem, we introduced a simple change of variables from customary (<it>X,Y</it>) (Cartesian) coordinates to planar polar coordinates (<it>X </it>= <it>r</it>cos(<it>θ</it>), <it>Y </it>= <it>r</it>sin(<it>θ</it>)). Classification of multidimensional fluorescence signals based on histograms of angular and radial data distributions proved more effective than classification based on Cartesian thresholds. Comparison with known diallelic dilution controls suggests that histogram-based classification is effective for major:minor allele concentration ratios as high as 10:1.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>We have observed that the diallelic SNP data resulting from analysis of <it>P. falciparum </it>mutations is more accurately diagnosed when a simple polar transform of the (<it>X,Y</it>) data into (<it>r,θ</it>) is used. The development of high through-put methods for genotyping <it>P. falciparum </it>SNPs and the refinement of analytical approaches for evaluating these molecular diagnostic results significantly advance the evaluation of parasite population diversity and antimalarial drug resistance.</p
Sustainability Parameters in Knowledge Construction: Energy Efficiency Issues of Architectural Design Studio Space
This paper reports on the sustainability parameters relevant to knowledge construction in architectural design
studio space. A questionnaire with multiple- choice and open-ended questions was used in order to gain an in-depth
understanding of patterns of knowledge construction of architecture students; the design studio spaces of B.Sc. and M. Sc.
students of Covenant University, Ota was employed as pretested model. The study profile was patterned in the similitude
of Article 3 of the European Union EEC Council Directives [1]. The analysis showed varied sustainability (energy efficient
characteristics) indices of the design studio learning-working spaces. The specified indices of schools curriculum are
relatively indifferent as regards productivity level within this space. This is due to some reasons; which include lack of
awareness of sustainability characteristics, orientation, curriculum package for stakeholders, and other pedagogic issues.
The results of research findings revealed sustainability attributes in the areas of thermal characteristics, heating installation
and usage in the studio, ventilation requirements, other strategies for overcoming these difficulties. This study recommends
construction of knowledge and practice in the specificity of sustainability indice
