Existence of Ricci flows of incomplete surfaces
We prove a general existence result for instantaneously complete Ricci flows
starting at an arbitrary Riemannian surface which may be incomplete and may
have unbounded curvature. We give an explicit formula for the maximal existence
time, and describe the asymptotic behaviour in most cases.Comment: 20 pages; updated to reflect galley proof correction
Type-Decomposition of a Pseudo-Effect Algebra
The theory of direct decomposition of a centrally orthocomplete effect
algebra into direct summands of various types utilizes the notion of a
type-determining (TD) set. A pseudo-effect algebra (PEA) is a (possibly)
noncommutative version of an effect algebra. In this article we develop the
basic theory of centrally orthocomplete PEAs, generalize the notion of a TD set
to PEAs, and show that TD sets induce decompositions of centrally orthocomplete
PEAs into direct summands.Comment: 18 page
The Influence of Ni-Coated TiC on Laser-Deposited IN625 Metal Matrix Composites
IN625 Ni-based metal matrix composites (MMCs) components were deposited using Laser Engineered Net-Shaping (LENS) with Ni-coated and uncoated TiC reinforcement particles to provide insight into the influence of interfaces on MMCs. The microstructures and spatial distribution of TiC particles in the deposited MMCs were characterized, and the mechanical responses were investigated. The results demonstrate that the flowability of the mixed powders, the integrity of the interface between the matrix and the TiC particles, the interaction between the laser beam and the TiC ceramic particles, and the mechanical properties of the LENS-deposited MMCs were all effectively improved by using Ni-coated TiC particles
