Renormalization Group Improved Exponentiation of Soft Gluons in QCD
We extend the methods of Yennie, Frautschi and Suura to QCD for the summation
of soft gluon effects in which infrared singularities are cancelled to all
orders in . An explicit formula for the respective \rngp improved
exponentiated cross section is obtained for q+\bbar{{q'}}\to q+\bbar{{q'}}+
n(G) at SSC energies. Possible applications are discussed.Comment: 7 pages (1 figure not included, available on request) LATEX,

Scalar one-loop integrals for QCD
We construct a basis set of infra-red and/or collinearly divergent scalar
one-loop integrals and give analytic formulas, for tadpole, bubble, triangle
and box integrals, regulating the divergences (ultra-violet, infra-red or
collinear) by regularization in dimensions. For scalar triangle
integrals we give results for our basis set containing 6 divergent integrals.
For scalar box integrals we give results for our basis set containing 16
divergent integrals. We provide analytic results for the 5 divergent box
integrals in the basis set which are missing in the literature. Building on the
work of van Oldenborgh, a general, publicly available code has been
constructed, which calculates both finite and divergent one-loop integrals. The
code returns the coefficients of and
as complex numbers for an arbitrary tadpole, bubble, triangle or box integral.Comment: 27 pages, 5 figures, associated fortran code available at

Neutrino-Deuteron Scattering in Effective Field Theory at Next-to-Next-to Leading Order
We study the four channels associated with neutrino-deuteron breakup
reactions at next-to-next to leading order in effective field theory. We find
that the total cross-section is indeed converging for neutrino energies up to
20 MeV, and thus our calculations can provide constraints on theoretical
uncertainties for the Sudbury Neutrino Observatory. We stress the importance of
a direct experimental measurement to high precision in at least one channel, in
order to fix an axial two-body counterterm.Comment: 32 pages, 14 figures (eps
Magnetic moments of the 3/2 resonances and their quark spin structure
We discuss magnetic moments of the baryons based on an earlier model
for the baryon magnetic moments, allowing for flavor symmetry breaking in the
quark magnetic moments as well as a general quark spin structure. From our
earlier analysis of the nucleon-hyperon magnetic moments and the measured
values of the magnetic moments of and we predict the
other magnetic moments and deduce the spin structure of the resonance
particles. We find from experiment that the total spin polarization of the
decuplet baryons, , is considerably smaller than the
non-relativistic quark model value of 3, although the data is still not good
enough to give a precise determination.Comment: 13 pages, REVTeX, 2 figures, minor clarifying change
Strange quarks and lattice QCD
The last few years have seen a dramatic improvement in our knowledge of the
strange form factors of the nucleon. With regard to the vector from factors the
level of agreement between theory and experiment gives us considerable
confidence in our ability to calculate with non-perturbative QCD. The
calculation of the strange scalar form factor has moved significantly in the
last two years, with the application of new techniques which yield values
considerably smaller than believed for the past 20 years. These new values turn
out to have important consequences for the detection of neutralinos, a
favourite dark matter candidate. Finally, very recent lattice studies have
resurrected interest in the famed H-dibaryon, with modern chiral extrapolation
of lattice data suggesting that it may be only slightly unbound. We review some
of the major sources of uncertainty in that chiral extrapolation.Comment: Invited talk at the Asia-Pacific few Body Conference, Seoul Kore
Relic Neutralino Densities and Detection Rates with Nonuniversal Gaugino Masses
We extend previous analyses on the interplay between nonuniversalities in the
gaugino mass sector and the thermal relic densities of LSP neutralinos, in
particular to the case of moderate to large tan beta. We introduce a set of
parameters that generalizes the standard unified scenario to cover the complete
allowed parameter space in the gaugino mass sector. We discuss the physical
significance of the cosmologically preferred degree of degeneracy between
charginos and the LSP and study the effect this degree of degeneracy has on the
prospects for direct detection of relic neutralinos in the next round of dark
matter detection experiments. Lastly, we compare the fine tuning required to
achieve a satisfactory relic density with the case of universal gaugino masses,
as in minimal supergravity, and find it to be of a similar magnitude. The
sensitivity of quantifiable measures of fine-tuning on such factors as the
gluino mass and top and bottom masses is also examined.Comment: Uses RevTeX; 14 pages, 16 figure
The role of pyrimidine and water as underlying molecular constituents for describing radiation damage in living tissue: A comparative study
8 págs.; 7 figs.; 2 tabs.© 2015 AIP Publishing LLC. Water is often used as the medium for characterizing the effects of radiation on living tissue. However, in this study, charged-particle track simulations are employed to quantify the induced physicochemical and potential biological implications when a primary ionising particle with energy 10 keV strikes a medium made up entirely of water or pyrimidine. Note that pyrimidine was chosen as the DNA/RNA bases cytosine, thymine, and uracil can be considered pyrimidine derivatives. This study aims to assess the influence of the choice of medium on the charged-particle transport, and identify how appropriate it is to use water as the default medium to describe the effects of ionising radiation on living tissue. Based on the respective electron interaction cross sections, we provide a model, which allows the study of radiation effects not only in terms of energy deposition (absorbed dose and stopping power) but also in terms of the number of induced molecular processes. Results of these parameters for water and pyrimidine are presented and compared. This research was supported by the Australian Research

Proton strangeness form factors in (4,1) clustering configurations
We reexamine a recent result within a nonrelativistic constituent quark model
(NRCQM) which maintains that the uuds\bar s component in the proton has its
uuds subsystem in P state, with its \bar s in S state (configuration I). When
the result are corrected, contrary to the previous result, we find that all the
empirical signs of the form factors data can be described by the lowest-lying
uuds\bar s configuration with \bar s in P state that has its uuds subsystem in
state (configuration II). Further, it is also found that the removal of the
center-of-mass (CM) motion of the clusters will enhance the contributions of
the transition current considerably. We also show that a reasonable description
of the existing form factors data can be obtained with a very small probability
P_{s\bar s}=0.025% for the uuds\bar s component. We further see that the
agreement of our prediction with the data for G_A^s at low-q^2 region can be
markedly improved by a small admixture of configuration I. It is also found
that by not removing CM motion, P_{s\bar s} would be overestimated by about a
factor of four in the case when transition dominates over direct currents.
Then, we also study the consequence of a recent estimate reached from analyzing
the existing data on quark distributions that P_{s\bar s} lies between 2.4-2.9%
which would lead to a large size for the five-quark (5q) system, as well as a
small bump in both G^s_E+\eta G^s_M and G^s_E in the region of q^2 =< 0.1
GeV^2.Comment: Prepared for The Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on Few-Body Problems

On Paragrassmann Differential Calculus
Explicit general constructions of paragrassmann calculus with one and many
variables are given. Relations of the paragrassmann calculus to quantum groups
are outlined and possible physics applications are briefly discussed. This
paper is the same as the original 9210075 except added Appendix and minor
changes in Acknowledgements and References. IMPORTANT NOTE: This paper bears
the same title as the Dubna preprint E5-92-392 but is NOT identical to it,
containing new results, extended discussions, and references.Comment: 19p
Worldsheet Instantons and a Null String Limit of Born-Infeld Theory
For a superstring theory in four spacetime dimensions, we propose a
modification of the Born-Infeld action that possesses a well-defined
tensionless limit. We interpret this as describing the effective target space
dynamics of null strings on a D3-brane. We argue that such a modification can
be induced by nonperturbative contributions from instantons in the worldsheet
sigma-model describing string propagation on the brane.Comment: 11 pages; Comments and references adde
