    An Atom Laser is not monochromatic

    We study both numerically and analytically the possibility of using an adiabatic passage control method to construct a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) for Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in the time domain, in exact one-to-one correspondence with the traditional optical MZI that involves two beam splitters and two mirrors. The interference fringes one obtains from such a minimum-disturbance set up clearly demonstrates that, fundamentally, an atom laser is not monochromatic due to interatomic interactions. We also consider how the amount of entanglement in the system correlates to the interference fringes.Comment: 4 figures. Submitted for publicatio

    The collection of seeds from the wild is the main source to obtain the stocking material for the cage. This can be carried out when the seed production cost is very high or where the availability of seed from nature is in large quantity. It is important to know the biology of the fish species either to duplicate reproductive condition on the farm or to know when and where to collect the fish. The artificially produced seeds in the hatchery are used widely in cage culture practice all over the world to avoid depletion of stock in the wild. The transportation of the seeds to the culture site plays an important role as maximum mortality occurs during this process because of change in metabolic pattern of the fish due to stress. The appropriate quantity of seeds should be stocked in each cage for obtaining good production. This chapter mainly deals with all these aspects in detail

    Aspergillus mediastinal lymphadenopathy with bronchial invasion mimicking cancer in an immunocompetent host

    The clinical presentation of pulmonary mycotic disease is determined by the interaction between the fungus and host. Inhalation of spores resulting in sino-pulmonary disease is the most frequent manifestation. It can have a myriad radiological manifestations ranging from ground glassing, fleeting consolidations, and cavitation to interstitial thickening. Mediastinal lymphadenopathy locally eroding into multiple bronchi is highly unusual. The main clinical presentations are cough, hemoptysis, and dull chest pain. Diagnosis is based on either indirect serological tests or direct visualization of hyphae under the microscope. We present a case of a 25-year-old laborer with hemoptysis and weight loss; found to have mediastinal lymphadenopathy invading endobronchially. Tuberculosis, lymphoma, and bronchogenic carcinoma were our initial differential diagnosis, but invasive aspergillosis was later confirmed following biopsy. The role of a fungal etiology in pulmonary lesions among immunocompetent individuals is often overlooked. This case highlights the need to keep a broad differential in mind while dealing with mediastinal lymphadenopath

    Sudden population eruption of Siliqua radiata during monsoon months (June-August 2008) was observed along Versova beach in Mumbai. Relationship between shell length (SL) and total weight (TW) was TW = 0.0001137 * SL 2.67922, shell length (SL) and meat weight (MW) was MW = 0.0000237 * SL 2.91756. S. radiata had isometric growth. The average density was estimated as 14 per square meter and the biomass was 153 g.m-2. The proportion of meat was 60%.     Quantized Orbits and Resonant Transport

    A tight binding representation of the kicked Harper model is used to obtain an integrable semiclassical Hamiltonian consisting of degenerate "quantized" orbits. New orbits appear when renormalized Harper parameters cross integer multiples of ╧А/2\pi/2. Commensurability relations between the orbit frequencies are shown to correlate with the emergence of accelerator modes in the classical phase space of the original kicked problem. The signature of this resonant transport is seen in both classical and quantum behavior. An important feature of our analysis is the emergence of a natural scaling relating classical and quantum couplings which is necessary for establishing correspondence.Comment: REVTEX document - 8 pages + 3 postscript figures.     Iterative Approximate Consensus in the presence of Byzantine Link Failures

    This paper explores the problem of reaching approximate consensus in synchronous point-to-point networks, where each directed link of the underlying communication graph represents a communication channel between a pair of nodes. We adopt the transient Byzantine link failure model [15, 16], where an omniscient adversary controls a subset of the directed communication links, but the nodes are assumed to be fault-free. Recent work has addressed the problem of reaching approximate consen- sus in incomplete graphs with Byzantine nodes using a restricted class of iterative algorithms that maintain only a small amount of memory across iterations [22, 21, 23, 12]. However, to the best of our knowledge, we are the first to consider approximate consensus in the presence of Byzan- tine links. We extend our past work that provided exact characterization of graphs in which the iterative approximate consensus problem in the presence of Byzantine node failures is solvable [22, 21]. In particular, we prove a tight necessary and sufficient condition on the underlying com- munication graph for the existence of iterative approximate consensus algorithms under transient Byzantine link model.     Oxidation and chemical state analysis of polycrystalline magnetron sputtered (Ti,Al)N films at ambient and liquid N-2 temperatures

    In order to improve the functional properties of hard coatings, recent investigations have been directed towards Ti-N based multicomponent materials. The nitride (Ti, Al)N, in particular, with a Ti:Al ratio of 1:1 seems to be a promising alternative to the widely used TiN, exhibits better oxidation resistance and hence improved performance over that of TiN. (Ti, Al)N coatings were de sputter deposited onto 316SS substrates under ambient and liquid nitrogen temperatures. As deposited films were oxidized in a vertical fused-silica tube furnace in pure O-2 flowing atmosphere at temperatures ranging from 700 to 900 degrees C. Scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope images reveal information about the particle size and film thickness. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was employed to study the chemistry of the cop few atomic layers in addition to compositional analysis and information on the details of chemical bonding, The difference in film stoichiometry are compared at two different deposition conditions thus reflecting their behavior under oxidizing conditions

    A fast and self-adaptive on-line learning detection system

This paper proposes a method to allow users to select target species for detection, generate an initial detection model by selecting a small piece of image sample and as the movie plays, continue training this detection model automatically. This method has noticeable detection results for several types of objects. The framework of this study is divided into two parts: the initial detection model and the online learning section. The detection model initialization phase use a sample size based on the proportion of users of the Haar-like features to generate a pool of features, which is used to train and select effective classifiers. Then, as the movie plays, the detecting model detects the new sample using the NN Classifier with positive and negative samples and the similarity model calculates new samples based on the fusion background model to calculate a new sample and detect the relative similarity to the target. From this relative similarity-based conservative classification of new samples, the conserved positive and negative samples classified by the video player are used for automatic online learning and training to continuously update the classifier. In this paper, the results of the test for different types of objects show the ability to detect the target by choosing a small number of samples and performing automatic online learning, effectively reducing the manpower needed to collect a large number of image samples and a large amount of time for training. The Experimental results also reveal good detection capability

    Isolation and characterization of the two subpopulations of cells with different lethalities from zajdela ascitic hepatoma

    Two distinct subpopulations of cells, light (L-cells) and heavy (H-cells), have been isolated and characterized from a rat ascitic tumor, the Zajdela ascitic hepatoma. These two populations have been separated by Percoll density gradient centrifugation and studied by flow cytofluorimetry. The two populations, in addition to their difference in buoyant densities, show characteristically different profiles for DNA and RNA contents, nonspecific esterase activity, and surface amino group distribution. The DNA distribution in the two types of cells clearly shows that the H-cells are rapidly proliferating while the L-cells are quiescent. Studies on the two groups of cells after colchicine treatment also confirm this conclusion. The H-cell induced tumors kill the host animals rapidly while the L-cell induced tumors regress in about 3 months. The H- and L-cells from the Zajdela tumor form a convenient experimental system to study the marked difference in the progression of tumors induced by these cells, possible differences in gene expression in regressing and nonregressing tumors and the interactions between the subpopulations with a view to delineate molecular events governing tumor progression and tumor heterogeneity
