Langlands duality for finite-dimensional representations of quantum affine algebras
We describe a correspondence (or duality) between the q-characters of
finite-dimensional representations of a quantum affine algebra and its
Langlands dual in the spirit of q-alg/9708006 and 0809.4453. We prove this
duality for the Kirillov-Reshetikhin modules and their irreducible tensor
products. In the course of the proof we introduce and construct "interpolating
(q,t)-characters" depending on two parameters which interpolate between the
q-characters of a quantum affine algebra and its Langlands dual.Comment: 40 pages; several results and comments added. Accepted for

Analytical study of coherence in seeded modulation instability
We derive analytical expressions for the coherence in the onset of modulation
instability, in excellent agreement with thorough numerical simulations. As
usual, we start by a linear perturbation analysis, where broadband noise is
added to a continuous wave (CW) pump; then, we investigate the effect of adding
a deterministic seed to the CW pump, a case of singular interest as it is
commonly encountered in parametric amplification schemes. Results for the
dependence of coherence on parameters such as fiber type, pump power,
propagated distance, seed signal-to-noise ratio are presented. Finally, we show
the importance of including higher-order linear and nonlinear dispersion when
dealing with generation in longer wavelength regions (mid IR). We believe these
results to be of relevance when applied to the analysis of the coherence
properties of supercontinua generated from CW pumps.Comment: 6 pages, 8 figure
Life cycle environmental and cost evaluation of heating and hot water supply in social housing nZEBs
This paper presents a comparative analysis of different space heating and hot water systems for a social housing project in Santurtzi, Spain. The building, comprising 32 apartment units and currently under construction, has been designed to minimize thermal energy demand, while ensuring comfort and quality of the internal environment for the social housing occupiers. The selection of the heating and hot water energy systems has been carried considering a life cycle perspective both for environmental and economic impacts. Different alternatives have been analysed which compare conventional gas boiler installation, which has been the norm for this type of social housing for the last decades, with various options based on heat pump technology. Life cycle analysis of the environmental effects of electrification of the thermal energy demand through heat pumps show a potential for reducing life cycle CO2 emissions. The economic evaluation done through life cycle costing, comparing investment, maintenance, replacement and operational costs of gas boiler with aerothermal and geothermal heat pump solutions, have shown however that gas heating solutions are still the most competitive economically. Increasing the overall efficiency of those heating and hot water systems that include heat pump technology, while reducing their uncertainty in operation is a key element to ensure competitiveness of heat pumps in the current market. The work presented in this article is part of an analysis carried within AZEB project âAffordable Zero Energy Buildingsâ, which has received funding from the European Unionâs Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 754174
Eimeria tenella protein trafficking: differential regulation of secretion versus surface tethering during the life cycle
Eimeria spp. are intracellular parasites that have a major impact on poultry. Effective live vaccines are available and the development of reverse genetic technologies has raised the prospect of using Eimeria spp. as recombinant vectors to express additional immunoprotective antigens. To study the ability of Eimeria to secrete foreign antigens or display them on the surface of the sporozoite, transiently transfected populations of E. tenella expressing the fluorescent protein mCherry, linked to endogenous signal peptide (SP) and glycophosphatidylinositol-anchor (GPI) sequences, were examined. The SP from microneme protein EtMIC2 (SP2) allowed efficient trafficking of mCherry to cytoplasmic vesicles and following the C-terminal addition of a GPI-anchor (from surface antigen EtSAG1) mCherry was expressed on the sporozoite surface. In stable transgenic populations, mCherry fused to SP2 was secreted into the sporocyst cavity of the oocysts and after excystation, secretion was detected in culture supernatants but not into the parasitophorous vacuole after invasion. When the GPI was incorporated, mCherry was observed on the sporozites surface and in the supernatant of invading sporozoites. The proven secretion and surface exposure of mCherry suggests that antigen fusions with SP2 and GPI of EtSAG1 may be promising candidates to examine induction of protective immunity against heterologous pathogens
A comparison of optical and radar measurements of mesospheric winds and tides
Optical measurements of mesospheric winds by FabryâPerot spectrometers, FPSs, at Mawson, 67.6°S 62.9°E, and Davis, 68.6°S 78.0°E, Antarctica are compared with similar measurements obtained using a spacedâantenna MF radar at Davis. The FPSs observed the OH emission. Different analysis procedures, used to determine the mean wind, and amplitude and phase of the semidiurnal tide, have been compared. At these latitudes the diurnal tide is weak and the semiâdiurnal tide, although highly variable in amplitude, is usually the dominant periodicity. When comparing the amplitude and phase of the semidiurnal tide good agreement is obtained between measurements by the two instruments
Dorey's Rule and the q-Characters of Simply-Laced Quantum Affine Algebras
Let Uq(ghat) be the quantum affine algebra associated to a simply-laced
simple Lie algebra g. We examine the relationship between Dorey's rule, which
is a geometrical statement about Coxeter orbits of g-weights, and the structure
of q-characters of fundamental representations V_{i,a} of Uq(ghat). In
particular, we prove, without recourse to the ADE classification, that the rule
provides a necessary and sufficient condition for the monomial 1 to appear in
the q-character of a three-fold tensor product V_{i,a} x V_{j,b} x V_{k,c}.Comment: 30 pages, latex; v2, to appear in Communications in Mathematical
