The descriptive tradition of Wolof generally assumes that constructions such as the reversive, the inchoative, the causative, the nominalization, etc., are obtained by attaching a suffix to a stem. However, such a morphological model based on the word implies a set of phonological rules which are not self-evident in the grammar of Wolof. My purpose is to show that the CV-skeleton level is more important than the segmental level in the morphological system of Wolof. The proposed analysis thus allows us to eliminate a certain number of paradoxes resulting from the habitual conception of the morphology of Wolof, and to propose a less complex and more coherent system

    Investigating the Light Scalar Mesons

    Get PDF
We first briefly review a treatment of the scalars in meson meson scattering based on a non-linear chiral Lagrangian, with unitarity implemented by a "local" modification of the scalar propagators. It is shown that the main results are confirmed by a treatment in the SU(3) linear sigma model in which unitarity is implemented "globally". Some remarks are made on the speculative subject of the scalars' quark structure.Comment: 9 pages,3 figures, talk at hadron2001, Protvin

Proof of the cases p≀7p \leq 7 of the Lieb-Seiringer formulation of the Bessis-Moussa-Villani conjecture

It is shown that the polynomial λ(t)=Tr[(A+tB)p]\lambda(t) = {\rm Tr}[(A + tB)^p] has nonnegative coefficients when p≀7p \leq 7 and A and B are any two complex positive semidefinite n×nn \times n matrices with arbitrary nn. This proofs a general nontrivial case of the Lieb-Seiringer formulation of the Bessis-Moussa-Villani conjecture which is a long standing problem in theoretical physics.Comment: 5 pages; typos corrected; accepted for publication in Journal of Statistical Physic

Optimization of the extraordinary magnetoresistance in semiconductor-metal hybrid structures for magnetic-field sensor applications

Semiconductor-metal hybrid structures can exhibit a very large geometrical magnetoresistance effect, the so-called extraordinary magnetoresistance (EMR) effect. In this paper, we analyze this effect by means of a model based on the finite element method and compare our results with experimental data. In particular, we investigate the important effect of the contact resistance ρc\rho_c between the semiconductor and the metal on the EMR effect. Introducing a realistic ρc=3.5×10−7Ωcm2\rho_c=3.5\times 10^{-7} \Omega{\rm cm}^2 in our model we find that at room temperature this reduces the EMR by 30% if compared to an analysis where ρc\rho_c is not considered.Comment: 4 pages; manuscript for MSS11 conference 2003, Nara, Japa

Teleportation of a Zero-and One-photon Running Wave State by Projection Synthesis

We show how to teleport a running wave superposition of zero- and one-photon field state through the projection synthesis technique. The fidelity of the scheme is computed taking into account the noise introduced by dissipation and the efficiency of the detectors. These error sources have been introduced through a single general relationship between input and output operators.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figur

Fire-resistant materials for aircraft passenger seat construction

    Get PDF
The thermal response characteristics of fabric and fabric-foam assemblies are described. The various aspects of the ignition behavior of contemporary aircraft passenger seat upholstery fabric materials relative to fabric materials made from thermally stable polymers are evaluated. The role of the polymeric foam backing on the thermal response of the fabric-foam assembly is also ascertained. The optimum utilization of improved fire-resistant fabric and foam materials in the construction of aircraft passenger seats is suggested
