    Authentic Assessment for online learning

    Get PDF
Are you tired of grading boring online discussion posts where students all respond to the material in the same way? Are your students craving meaningful lessons that are worthwhile and relevant? Our session will cover authentic learning activities to engage and challenge students online in a variety of disciplines and grade levels. We’ll provide practical uses of social media and other educational technologies that require students to demonstrate learning while reducing the grading burden. Assessing students online can be fun and the Tech Twins will show you how

Elevated Body Mass Index is associated with severity of Allergic Rhinitis: Results from a cross sectional study

    Get PDF
Background: Allergic rhinitis is a prevalent chronic respiratory problem that can impair quality of life, sleep and work. The increase in the prevalence of allergic rhinitis among the general population appears to have an association with weight. Obese individuals are more vulnerable to allergy. Since obesity appears to be linked with the occurrence of allergic rhinitis, it is hypothesized that obesity also has an influence on the severity levels of allergic rhinitis. This study was designed to investigate the patterns and severity of allergic rhinitis patients, determine the prevalence of obesity in patients with allergic rhinitis, examine the association between the severity of allergic rhinitis and body mass index, and develop recommendations for further research

Pose estimation for objects with planar surfaces using eigenimage and range data analysis

In this paper we present a novel method for estimating the object pose for 3D objects with well defined planar surfaces. Specifically, we investigate the feasibility of estimating the object pose using an approach that combines the standard eigenspace analysis technique with range data analysis. In this sense, eigenspace analysis was employed to constrain one object rotation and reject surfaces that are not compatible with a model object. The remaining two object rotations are estimated by computing the normal to the surface from the range data. The proposed pose estimation scheme has been successfully applied to scenes defined by polyhedral objects and experimental results are reported

Radiation measurements in a simulated non-terrestrial atmosphere

A high-speed wind tunnel has been used to experimentally simulate the flow experienced by a capsule entering a planetary atmosphere. High speed photography showed that a steady test time of approximately 50 μs existed in the facility. Holographic interferometry has been performed to measure the twodimensional density distribution around a cylinder in the flow. A peak density ratio (density normalised by the free-stream density) of about 14 was observed. Emission spectroscopy allowed the characterisation of the conditions along the stagnation streamline in front of the capsule model. The results showed a temperature that varied between 8,500 K and 11,000 K in this region
