New family of potentials with analytical twiston-like solutions

In this letter we present a new approach to find analytical twiston models. The effective two-field model was constructed by a non-trivial combination of two one field systems. In such an approach we successfully build analytical models which are satisfied by a combination of two defect-like solutions, where one is responsible to twist the molecular chain by $180^{\,0}$, while the other implies in a longitudinal movement. Such a longitudinal movement can be fitted to have the size of the distance between adjacent molecular groups. The procedure works nicely and can be used to describe the dynamics of several other molecular chains.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure

Queima das folhas de bananeiras no Nordeste do Brasil

A banqnicultura e uma das principais exploracao agricolas do Nordeste e, entre as fruteiras, assume importancia fundamental por seu valor economico e social, mulhorando a dieta alimentar das populacoes mais carentes e contribuindo para fixar o pequeno proprietario na zona rural. A regiao Nordeste produz cerca de 2,1 milhoes de toneladas de banana/ano, representando 42% da producao brasileira (CUNHA, 1984). A introducao da bananicultura em regiao de baixa precipitacao pulviometrica, feita normalmente com o uso da irrigacao, tem grande potencial de crescimento, nao so por ser uma das prantas de maior consumo na regiao como tambem pela extencao de areas disponiveis ao plantio. A sua exploracao, no entanto, e limitada, principalmente por problemas de salinizacao do solo, onde assume maior relevancia de fitotoxider por sodio. Diagnosing numerical Cherenkov instabilities in relativistic plasma simulations based on general meshes

Numerical Cherenkov radiation (NCR) or instability is a detrimental effect frequently found in electromagnetic particle-in-cell (EM-PIC) simulations involving relativistic plasma beams. NCR is caused by spurious coupling between electromagnetic-field modes and multiple beam resonances. This coupling may result from the slow down of poorly-resolved waves due to numerical (grid) dispersion and from aliasing mechanisms. NCR has been studied in the past for finite-difference-based EM-PIC algorithms on regular (structured) meshes with rectangular elements. In this work, we extend the analysis of NCR to finite-element-based EM-PIC algorithms implemented on unstructured meshes. The influence of different mesh element shapes and mesh layouts on NCR is studied. Analytic predictions are compared against results from finite-element-based EM-PIC simulations of relativistic plasma beams on various mesh types.Comment: 31 pages, 20 figure

Two Superconducting Phases in CeRh_1-xIr_xIn_5

Pressure studies of CeRh_1-xIr_xIn_5 indicate two superconducting phases as a function of x, one with T_c >= 2 K for x < 0.9 and the other with T_c < 1.2 K for x > 0.9. The higher T_c phase, phase-1, emerges in proximity to an antiferromagnetic quantum-critical point; whereas, Cooper pairing in the lower T_c phase-2 is inferred to arise from fluctuations of a yet to be found magnetic state. The T-x-P phase diagram of CeRh_1-xIr_xIn_5, though qualitatively similar, is distinctly different from that of CeCu_2(Si_1-xGe_x)_2.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure

Experimental Observation of Quantum Correlations in Modular Variables

We experimentally detect entanglement in modular position and momentum variables of photon pairs which have passed through $D$-slit apertures. We first employ an entanglement criteria recently proposed in [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 106}, 210501 (2011)], using variances of the modular variables. We then propose an entanglement witness for modular variables based on the Shannon entropy, and test it experimentally. Finally, we derive criteria for Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Steering correlations using variances and entropy functions.
