Auxiliary field diffusion Monte Carlo calculations of light and medium-mass nuclei with local chiral interactions
Quantum Monte Carlo methods have recently been employed to study properties
of nuclei and infinite matter using local chiral effective field theory
interactions. In this work, we present a detailed description of the auxiliary
field diffusion Monte Carlo algorithm for nuclei in combination with local
chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions up to next-to-next-to-leading order.
We show results for the binding energy, charge radius, charge form factor, and
Coulomb sum rule in nuclei with . Particular attention is devoted
to the effect of different operator structures in the three-body force for
different cutoffs. The outcomes suggest that local chiral interactions fit to
few-body observables give a very good description of the ground-state
properties of nuclei up to O, with the exception of one fit for the
softer cutoff which predicts overbinding in larger nuclei.Comment: 23 pages, 10 figure
Neutron diffraction in a model itinerant metal near a quantum critical point
Neutron diffraction measurements on single crystals of Cr1-xVx (x=0, 0.02,
0.037) show that the ordering moment and the Neel temperature are continuously
suppressed as x approaches 0.037, a proposed Quantum Critical Point (QCP). The
wave vector Q of the spin density wave (SDW) becomes more incommensurate as x
increases in accordance with the two band model. At xc=0.037 we have found
temperature dependent, resolution limited elastic scattering at 4
incommensurate wave vectors Q=(1+/-delta_1,2, 0, 0)*2pi/a, which correspond to
2 SDWs with Neel temperatures of 19 K and 300 K. Our neutron diffraction
measurements indicate that the electronic structure of Cr is robust, and that
tuning Cr to its QCP results not in the suppression of antiferromagnetism, but
instead enables new spin ordering due to novel nesting of the Fermi surface of

Properties of nuclei up to using local chiral interactions
We report accurate quantum Monte Carlo calculations of nuclei up to
based on local chiral two- and three-nucleon interactions up to
next-to-next-to-leading order. We examine the theoretical uncertainties
associated with the chiral expansion and the cutoff in the theory, as well as
the associated operator choices in the three-nucleon interactions. While in
light nuclei the cutoff variation and systematic uncertainties are rather
small, in O these can be significant for large coordinate-space cutoffs.
Overall, we show that chiral interactions constructed to reproduce properties
of very light systems and nucleon-nucleon scattering give an excellent
description of binding energies, charge radii, and form factors for all these
nuclei, including open-shell systems in and 12.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure

Factors Associated with Farm Household Poverty
A logit model is used to analyze factors associated with the incidence of poverty in Ohio farm households. This analysis suggests that the incidence of poverty is positively associated with financial risk, negatively associated with non-farm employment, household equity, and farm size, but not associated with participation in government programs
Factors Affecting Performance Measures in Northwestern Ohio Farms
Exact date of working paper unknown.Two performance measures, return on assets and overall efficiency, are calculated for a set of Ohio farms in the Lake Erie Basin in 1987, 1988, 1990 ,and 1992. These performance measures are analyzed to determine if they are affected by farming practices, capital structure, and farm operator characteristics. On average Ohio Farms in the Lake Erie Basin exhibit a 54 percent overall efficiency and a 5.25 percent return on assets for the four years studied. Farm size influences return on assets (ROA) and overall efficiency. Crop rotations and tillage practices have no statistical effects on ROA and overall efficiency

Antiferromagnetic Order of the Ru and Gd in Superconducting RuSr2GdCu2O8
Neutron diffraction has been used to study the magnetic order in
RuSr{2}GdCu2O8. The Ru moments order antiferromagnetically at T{N}=136(2)K,
coincident with the previously reported onset of ferromagnetism. Neighboring
spins are antiparallel in all three directions, with a low T moment of 1.18(6)
mu {B} along the c-axis. Our measurements put an upper limit of ~0.1 mu{B} to
any net zero-field moment, with fields exceeding ~0.4T needed to induce a
measurable magnetization. The Gd ions order independently at T{N}=2.50(2)K with

Impact of Overseeding Cool-Season Annual Forages on Spring Regrowth of Tifton 85 Bermudagrass
Field observations have shown stand reduction and slow spring regrowth of Tifton 85 bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.) pastures overseeded with temperate forages for grazing during the cool season. This experiment compared the effect of cool-season management programs, including overseeding and use of different grazing treatments, on productivity of Tifton 85 the following warm season. There were seven treatments: four were bermudagrass overseeded with a cool-season annual forage mixture (two grasses and two legumes) and grazed differentially, and three were bermudagrass controls with differences in amount of residual stubble remaining at beginning of autumn. There was only a slight delay in initiation of Tifton 85 spring regrowth relative to the unseeded controls and no apparent stand loss resulting from overseeding coolseason forages. Late spring and summer Tifton 85 production generally was greater on seeded than non-seeded areas, possibly resulting from the nitrogen (N) release from decaying coolseason legumes. Grazing management of winter species in seeded plots and stubble height of bermudagrass in control plots had no effect on bermudagrass performance. Nutritive value responses generally favored overseeded plots. These data, though from one year, show no negative effect on Tifton 85 bermudagrass performance from overseeding and grazing coolseason annual forages during winter
