The history of degenerate (bipartite) extremal graph problems
This paper is a survey on Extremal Graph Theory, primarily focusing on the
case when one of the excluded graphs is bipartite. On one hand we give an
introduction to this field and also describe many important results, methods,
problems, and constructions.Comment: 97 pages, 11 figures, many problems. This is the preliminary version
of our survey presented in Erdos 100. In this version 2 only a citation was
complete

1α,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol) and its analogue, 19-nor-1α,25(OH)2D2, potentiate the effects of ionising radiation on human prostate cancer cells
Secretion of prostatic specific antigen, proliferative activity and androgen response in epithelial–stromal co-cultures from human prostate carcinoma
We investigate the proliferative activity, prostatic specific antigen (PSA) secretion,
morphology and androgen response of human prostate tumour epithelial cells
co-cultured with stromal cells in a bicameral system. Stromal and epithelial cells were
isolated from prostate adenocarcinoma by enzyme digestion and cultured in defined
media. Immunocytochemistry for prostate carcinoma tumour antigen (PCTA-1) was
performed for culture purity evaluation. Also, the morphology of the epithelial cells in
co-culture was evaluated by electron microscopy. PSA was determined by microparticle
enzyme immunoassay (MEIA) automatized protocol and the proliferation was evaluated
by a commercial spectrophotometric kit, based on formazan salt formation. Both cell
cultures showed more than 90% of purity. The epithelial cell co-cultures showed marked
membrane processes and cell interdigitations. The proliferative activity of the epithelial
cells was increased in presence of stromal cells. Also, PSA secretion was significantly
increased and maintained for at least 14 days, whereas the androgen response for PSA
secretion was evidenced only in co-culture condition. Primary co-cultures of epithelial
and stromal cells from human prostate carcinoma are able to maintain, for a prolonged
time, proliferative and secretory properties as well hormone response, and represent a
valuable tool for cellular and molecular studies on prostate cancer
Efficiency Effects of Cross-Border Medical Demand
There is a growing interest in cross-border medical care and its comparative advantages. In addition, medical care can be defined as a local assurance good. Little research is being carried out in this field. This paper discusses the individual considerations for medical treatment offered at home and abroad within a micro-economical framework. Specific assumptions as mistrust, monetary and non-monetary transaction-costs, a price and cost gradient, illness severity as well as a lump-sum insurance are discussed. We show that a demand abroad can be utility maximizing, however, only second best. There are inefficiencies in the dimensions of ex-post demand and income risk either on the side of gross-income or of costs. Furthermore, the foreign demand is restricted for low health stages driven by mistrust and restrictions in quality. Higher stages are more capable if fixed costs are low. To demand abroad the marginal treatment costs abroad must fall short of a threshold level. Finally, an out-of-pocket payment can reduce the moral hazard when treatment takes place abroad
Wound healing after radiation therapy: Review of the literature
Radiation therapy is an established modality in the treatment of head and neck cancer patients. Compromised wound healing in irradiated tissues is a common and challenging clinical problem. The pathophysiology and underlying cellular mechanisms including the complex interaction of cytokines and growth factors are still not understood completely. In this review, the current state of research regarding the pathomechanisms of compromised wound healing in irradiated tissues is presented. Current and possible future treatment strategies are critically reviewed
