Charged analogue of Finch-Skea stars
We present solutions to the Einstein-Maxwell system of equations in
spherically symmetric gravitational fields for static interior spacetimes with
a specified form of the electric field intensity. The condition of pressure
isotropy yields three category of solutions. The first category is expressible
in terms of elementary functions and does not have an uncharged limit. The
second category is given in terms of Bessel functions of half-integer order.
These charged solutions satisfy a barotropic equation of state and contain
Finch-Skea uncharged stars. The third category is obtained in terms of modified
Bessel functions of half-integer order and does not have an uncharged limit.
The physical features of the charged analogue of the Finch-Skea stars are
studied in detail. In particular the condition of causality is satisfied and
the speed of sound does not exceed the speed of light. The physical analysis
indicates that this analogue is a realistic model for static charged

Characteristics of Fatal Cases of Pandemic Influenza A (H1N1) from September 2009 to January 2010 in Saurashtra Region, India
Background: India reported first case of 2009 pandemic influenza A (H1N1) virus infection in May, 2009 and Saurashtra region in August, 2009. We describe the characteristics of fatal cases of 2009 influenza A (H1N1) infection reported in Saurashtra region. Methods: From September, 2009 to January, 2010, we observed 71 fatal cases that were infected with 2009 influenza A (H1N1) virus and admitted in different hospitals in Rajkot city. Real-time reverse-transcriptase-polymerase-chain-reaction (RT-PCR) testing was used to confirm infection; the clinico-epidemiological features were observed and documented. Results: Median age of the deceased (71) was 29 years, and 57.7% were females. Median time observed was 5 days from onset of illness to diagnosis of influenza A (H1N1), and 57.7% were referred from general practitioner (OR=0.42, CI=0.24-0.74). Median hospital stay reported was 3 days. All admitted patients received oseltamivir, but only 16.9% received it within 2 days of onset of illness. The most common symptoms were cough (97.2%), fever (93%), sore throat and shortness of breath. Co-morbid conditions were present in almost half of the patients who ultimately died, the most common of which was pregnancy (OR=0.15, CI=0.04-0.52). Radiological pneumonia was reported in 98% patients. Conclusion: Residing in urban area, delayed referral from general practitioner, presence of co-existing condition, especially pregnancy was responsible for mortality among influenza A (H1N1) infected positive
Broadband study of blazar 1ES 1959+650 during flaring state in 2016
Aim : The nearby TeV blazar 1ES 1959+650 (z=0.047) was reported to be in
flaring state during June - July 2016 by Fermi-LAT, FACT, MAGIC and VERITAS
collaborations. We studied the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) in
different states of the flare during MJD 57530 - 57589 using simultaneous
multiwaveband data to understand the possible broadband emission scenario
during the flare. Methods : The UV/optical and X-ray data from UVOT and XRT
respectively on board Swift and high energy -ray data from Fermi-LAT
are used to generate multiwaveband lightcurves as well as to obtain high flux
states and quiescent state SEDs. The correlation and lag between different
energy bands is quantified using discrete correlation function. The synchrotron
self Compton (SSC) model was used to reproduce the observed SEDs during flaring
and quiescent states of the source. Results : A decent correlation is seen
between X-ray and high energy -ray fluxes. The spectral hardening with
increase in the flux is seen in X-ray band. The powerlaw index vs flux plot in
-ray band indicates the different emission regions for 0.1 - 3 GeV and
3-300 GeV energy photons. Two zone SSC model satisfactorily fits the observed
broadband SEDs. The inner zone is mainly responsible for producing synchrotron
peak and high energy -ray part of the SED in all states. The second
zone is mainly required to produce less variable optical/UV and low energy
-ray emission. Conclusions : Conventional single zone SSC model does
not satisfactorily explain broadband emission during observation period
considered. There is an indication of two emission zones in the jet which are
responsible for producing broadband emission from optical to high energy

Nonlinear electron transport in normally pinched-off quantum wire
Nonlinear electron transport in normally pinched-off quantum wires was
studied. The wires were fabricated from AlGaAs/GaAs heterostructures with
high-mobility two-dimensional electron gas by electron beam lithography and
following wet etching. At certain critical source-drain voltage the samples
exhibited a step rise of the conductance. The differential conductance of the
open wires was noticeably lower than e^2/h as far as only part of the
source-drain voltage dropped between source contact and saddle-point of the
potential relief along the wire. The latter limited the electron flow injected
to the wire. At high enough source-drain voltages the decrease of the
differential conductance due to the real space transfer of electrons from the
wire in GaAs to the doped AlGaAs layer was found. In this regime the sign of
differential magnetoconductance was changed with reversing the direction of the
current in the wire or the magnetic field, whet the magnetic field lies in the
heterostructure plane and is directed perpendicular to the current. The
dependence of the differential conductance on the magnetic field and its
direction indicated that the real space transfer events were mainly mediated by

Combination GLP-1 and Insulin Treatment Fails to Alter Myocardial Fuel Selection Versus Insulin Alone in Type 2 Diabetes
Context
Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and the clinically available GLP-1 agonists have been shown to exert effects on the heart. It is unclear whether these effects occur at clinically used doses in vivo in humans, possibly contributing to CVD risk reduction.
Objective
To determine whether liraglutide at clinical dosing augments myocardial glucose uptake alone or in combination with insulin compared to insulin alone in metformin-treated Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Design
Comparison of myocardial fuel utilization after 3 months of treatment with insulin detemir, liraglutide, or combination detemir+liraglutide.

Type 2 diabetes treated with metformin plus oral agents or basal insulin.
Interventions
Insulin detemir, liraglutide, or combination added to background metformin
Main Outcome Measures
Myocardial blood flow, fuel selection and rates of fuel utilization evaluated using positron emission tomography, powered to demonstrate large effects.
Results
We observed greater myocardial blood flow in the insulin-treated groups (median[25th, 75th percentile]: detemir 0.64[0.50, 0.69], liraglutide 0.52[0.46, 0.58] and detemir+liraglutide 0.75[0.55, 0.77] mL/g/min, p=0.035 comparing 3 groups and p=0.01 comparing detemir groups to liraglutide alone). There were no evident differences between groups in myocardial glucose uptake (detemir 0.040[0.013, 0.049], liraglutide 0.055[0.019, 0.105], detemir+liraglutide 0.037[0.009, 0.046] µmol/g/min, p=0.68 comparing 3 groups). Similarly there were no treatment group differences in measures of myocardial fatty acid uptake or handling, and no differences in total oxidation rate.
Conclusions
These observations argue against large effects of GLP-1 agonists on myocardial fuel metabolism as mediators of beneficial treatment effects on myocardial function and ischemia protection
The H1 Forward Track Detector at HERA II
In order to maintain efficient tracking in the forward region of H1 after the
luminosity upgrade of the HERA machine, the H1 Forward Track Detector was also
upgraded. While much of the original software and techniques used for the HERA
I phase could be reused, the software for pattern recognition was completely
rewritten. This, along with several other improvements in hit finding and
high-level track reconstruction, are described in detail together with a

Using Real-Life Cases to Teach Students About Electric Burns Part I Contact Burns
We consider the topic of the burning of human flesh caused by electricity. We consider electrothermal burns in this paper and non-contact and arcing burns in the second paper. We teach students that contrary to popular thought, external burning can be good (or at least the lesser evil), since it signifies a resistance to possible damage to internal organs, especially the heart. We further study the effects of contact area and time of application on the skin of the human involved in a medical or health-related situation. Finally, we focus on “good” burning of the human flesh, i.e. we discuss the ubiquitous presence of Electro-surgery machines in the modern hospital operating room
