Two-dimensional Valence Bond Solid (AKLT) states from t2gt_{2g} electrons

Two-dimensional AKLT model on a honeycomb lattice has been shown to be a universal resource for quantum computation. In this valence bond solid, however, the spin interactions involve higher powers of the Heisenberg coupling (SiSj)n(\vec{S}_i \cdot \vec{S}_j)^n, making these states seemingly unrealistic on bipartite lattices, where one expects a simple antiferromagnetic order. We show that those interactions can be generated by orbital physics in multiorbital Mott insulators. We focus on t2gt_{2g} electrons on the honeycomb lattice and propose a physical realization of the spin-3/23/2 AKLT state. We find a phase transition from the AKLT to the Neel state on increasing Hund's rule coupling, which is confirmed by density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations. An experimental signature of the AKLT state consists of protected, free spins-1/2 on lattice vacancies, which may be detected in the spin susceptibility

Local Magnetization in the Boundary Ising Chain at Finite Temperature

We study the local magnetization in the 2-D Ising model at its critical temperature on a semi-infinite cylinder geometry, and with a nonzero magnetic field hh applied at the circular boundary of circumference β\beta. This model is equivalent to the semi-infinite quantum critical 1-D transverse field Ising model at temperature Tβ1T \propto \beta^{-1}, with a symmetry-breaking field h\propto h applied at the point boundary. Using conformal field theory methods we obtain the full scaling function for the local magnetization analytically in the continuum limit, thereby refining the previous results of Leclair, Lesage and Saleur in Ref. \onlinecite{Leclair}. The validity of our result as the continuum limit of the 1-D lattice model is confirmed numerically, exploiting a modified Jordan-Wigner representation. Applications of the result are discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figure

    Thermopower of Single-Molecule Devices

We investigate the thermopower of single molecules weakly coupled to metallic leads. We model the molecule in terms of the relevant electronic orbitals coupled to phonons corresponding to both internal vibrations and to oscillations of the molecule as a whole. The thermopower is computed by means of rate equations including both sequential-tunneling and cotunneling processes. Under certain conditions, the thermopower allows one to access the electronic and phononic excitation spectrum of the molecule in a linear-response measurement. In particular, we find that the phonon features are more pronounced for weak lead-molecule coupling. This way of measuring the excitation spectrum is less invasive than the more conventional current-voltage characteristic, which, by contrast, probes the system far from equilibrium.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures included; minor changes, version published in PR

Analisis Kemampuan Anak Membaca Permulaan di Kelompok B Tk Mujahidin II

The general question in this research is how a child \u27s ability to read starters in group B. This study aims to determine the ability of children in group B read starters. This research was conducted in group B TK Mujahidin II, with a sample of 15 children. The method used is a qualitative research, with data collection techniques and tools: direct observation techniques by means of observation guide, direct communication techniques by means of interview, and documentary techniques with documentation tools. The results of data analysis showed that children\u27s ability to read starters in Group B, in the category enough, which means the ability of a child to read starters have been developed according to expectations on the percentage of 73.42 %

The interaction between colloids in polar mixtures above Tc

We calculate the interaction potential between two colloids immersed in an aqueous mixture containing salt near or above the critical temperature. We find an attractive interaction far from the coexistence curve due to the combination of preferential solvent adsorption at the colloids' surface and preferential ion solvation. We show that the ion-specific interaction strongly depends on the amount of salt added as well as on the mixture composition. Our results are in accord with recent experiments. For a highly antagonistic salt of hydrophilic anions and hydrophobic cations, a repulsive interaction at an intermediate inter-colloid distance is predicted even though both the electrostatic and adsorption forces alone are attractive.Comment: 9 pages, 6 figure

Instability of the symmetric Couette-flow in a granular gas: hydrodynamic field profiles and transport

We investigate the inelastic hard disk gas sheared by two parallel bumpy walls (Couette-flow). In our molecular dynamic simulations we found a sensitivity to the asymmetries of the initial condition of the particle places and velocities and an asymmetric stationary state, where the deviation from (anti)symmetric hydrodynamic fields is stronger as the normal restitution coefficient decreases. For the better understanding of this sensitivity we carried out a linear stability analysis of the former kinetic theoretical solution [Jenkins and Richman: J. Fluid. Mech. {\bf 171} (1986)] and found it to be unstable. The effect of this asymmetry on the self-diffusion coefficient is also discussed.Comment: 9 pages RevTeX, 14 postscript figures, sent to Phys. Quantum anomalies and linear response theory

The analysis of diffusive energy spreading in quantized chaotic driven systems, leads to a universal paradigm for the emergence of a quantum anomaly. In the classical approximation a driven chaotic system exhibits stochastic-like diffusion in energy space with a coefficient DD that is proportional to the intensity ϵ2\epsilon^2 of the driving. In the corresponding quantized problem the coherent transitions are characterized by a generalized Wigner time tϵt_{\epsilon}, and a self-generated (intrinsic) dephasing process leads to non-linear dependence of DD on ϵ2\epsilon^2.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, textual improvements (as in published version
