Mixing of scalar and tensor metric perturbations

Metric perturbations in General Relativity are usually separated into three distinct classes: scalar, vector, and tensor. In many cases these modes are separable, i.e. they satisfy independent equations of motion for each mode. However, in the present paper we argue that in many cases tensor and scalar modes are not separable, no matter what gauge conditions are chosen. The propagation of any of these mode depends on the other. A realistic example providing such mixing is presented.Comment: 10 page

On graviton propagation in curved space-time background

Equation describing propagation of gravitational waves (GW) over arbitrary curved space-time background is analyzed. A new term, which is absent in the conventional homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann cosmology, is found. Some examples of realistic metric, where this new term manifests itself, are presented. Possible implications to very low frequency GW are briefly discussed.Comment: 9 page

The smallest strictly Neumaier graph and its generalisations

    Get PDF
A regular clique in a regular graph is a clique such that every vertex outside of the clique is adjacent to the same positive number of vertices inside the clique. We continue the study of regular cliques in edge-regular graphs initiated by A. Neumaier in the 1980s and attracting current interest. We thus define a Neumaier graph to be an non-complete edge-regular graph containing a regular clique, and a strictly Neumaier graph to be a non-strongly regular Neumaier graph. We first prove some general results on Neumaier graphs and their feasible parameter tuples. We then apply these results to determine the smallest strictly Neumaier graph, which has 1616 vertices. Next we find the parameter tuples for all strictly Neumaier graphs having at most 2424 vertices. Finally, we give two sequences of graphs, each with ithi^{\text{th}} element a strictly Neumaier graph containing a 2i2^{i}-regular clique (where ii is a positive integer) and having parameters of an affine polar graph as an edge-regular graph. This answers questions recently posed by G. Greaves and J. Koolen

Synthesis of β-SiC in the intermediate layer of corundum coatings based on a sol-gel binder for protecting graphite objects from oxidation

    Get PDF
A coating is developed for protecting graphite from oxidation at 2023 – 2223 K. The efficiency of the protective action of a corundum coating based on a sol-gel binder increases due to creating a dense intermediate layer between the graphite substrate and the coating as a result of its self-reinforcement with fibers of mullite crystals and -SiC nanoparticles. Components of a modifier and sol-gel binder, but not carbon of the graphite substrate, provide synthesis of β-SiC

New limit on the mass of 9.4-keV solar axions emitted in an M1 transition in 83^{83}Kr nuclei

A search for resonant absorption of the solar axion by 83Kr^{83}\rm{Kr} nuclei was performed using the proportional counter installed inside the low-background setup at the Baksan Neutrino Observatory. The obtained model independent upper limit on the combination of isoscalar and isovector axion-nucleon couplings g3g01.69×106|g_3-g_0|\leq 1.69\times 10^{-6} allowed us to set the new upper limit on the hadronic axion mass of mA130m_{A}\leq 130 eV (95\% C.L.) with the generally accepted values SS=0.5 and zz=0.56.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 10th Patras Workshop on Axions, WIMPs and WISP 29 June - 4 July 2014, CERN, Geneva, Switzerlan
