Geometrical Constraints on the Cosmological Constant
The cosmological constant problem is examined under the assumption that the
extrinsic curvature of the space-time contributes to the vacuum. A compensation
mechanism based on a variable cosmological term is proposed. Under a suitable
hypothesis on the behavior of the extrinsic curvature, we find that an
initially large rolls down rapidly to zero during the early stages
of the universe. Using perturbation analysis, it is shown that such vacuum

Quantum deSitter cosmology and phantom matter
We consider deSitter universe and Nariai universe induced by quantum CFT with
classical phantom matter and perfect fluid. The model represents the
combination of trace-anomaly driven inflation and phantom driven deSitter
universe. The similarity of phantom matter with quantum CFT indicates that
phantom scalar may be the effective description for some quantum field theory.
It is demonstrated that it is easier to achieve the acceleration of the scale
factor preserving the energy conditions in such unified model. Some properties
of unified theory (anti-gravitating solutions, negative ADM mass Nariai

Higher spin fields and the problem of cosmological constant
The cosmological evolution of free massless vector or tensor (but not gauge)
fields minimally coupled to gravity is analyzed. It is shown that there are
some unstable solutions for these fields in De Sitter background. The back
reaction of the energy-momentum tensor of such solutions to the original
cosmological constant exactly cancels the latter and the expansion regime
changes from the exponential to the power law one. In contrast to the
adjustment mechanism realized by a scalar field the gravitational coupling
constant in this model is time-independent and the resulting cosmology may

Another exact inflationary solution
A new closed-form inflationary solution is given for a hyperbolic interaction
potential. The method used to arrive at this solution is outlined as it appears
possible to generate additional sets of equations which satisfy the model. In

Beta, Dipole and Noncommutative Deformations of M-theory Backgrounds with One or More Parameters
We construct new M-theory solutions starting from those that contain 5 U(1)
isometries. We do this by reducing along one of the 5-torus directions, then
T-dualizing via the action of an O(4,4) matrix and lifting back to
11-dimensions. The particular T-duality transformation is a sequence of O(2,2)
transformations embedded in O(4,4), where the action of each O(2,2) gives a
Lunin-Maldacena deformation in 10-dimensions. We find general formulas for the
metric and 4-form field of single and multiparameter deformed solutions, when
the 4-form of the initial 11-dimensional background has at most one leg along
the 5-torus. All the deformation terms in the new solutions are given in terms
of subdeterminants of a 5x5 matrix, which represents the metric on the 5-torus.
We apply these results to several M-theory backgrounds of the type AdS_r x
X^{11-r}. By appropriate choices of the T-duality and reduction directions we
obtain analogues of beta, dipole and noncommutative deformations. We also
provide formulas for backgrounds with only 3 or 4 U(1) isometries and study a

Thermodynamics of Decaying Vacuum Cosmologies
The thermodynamic behavior of vacuum decaying cosmologies is investigated
within a manifestly covariant formulation. Such a process corresponds to a
continuous irreversible energy flow from the vacuum component to the created
matter constituents. It is shown that if the specific entropy per particle
remains constant during the process, the equilibrium relations are preserved.
In particular, if the vacuum decays into photons, the energy density and
average number density of photons scale with the temperature as and . The temperature law is determined and a generalized
Planckian type form of the spectrum, which is preserved in the course of the
evolution, is also proposed. Some consequences of these results for decaying
vacuum FRW type cosmologies as well as for models with ``adiabatic'' photon

Species diversity and distribution of ruderal flora on landfills in Maradi city, Niger
Waste management continues to be a critical environmental issue in cities. It impacts on the well being of the population, the environment and the biodiversity. In the city of Maradi, in Niger, more interest is given to the problem in order to understand the whole waste management system. It is in this context that this study is carried out to investigate on the role of ruderal flora on the municipal solid wastes dumpsites and landfill sites in Maradi city. The specific objectives are to determine the floristic diversity and distribution of ruderal flora on the municipal solid waste disposal sites, and to identify potential species that can play an important role in the phytoremediation of these sites. In total, 65 species belonging to 52 genera and 24 families were recorded. These species can be categorised into two groups containing anthropic and nitrophilic species according to the ascending Hierarchical Classification (AHC) at 25% similarity. Characteristic species of the first group G1 are Amaranthus viridis and Cucurbita pepo, and Datura innoxia and Cucumis melo for the second group G2. Other ruderal species, namely Amaranthus spinosus L., Amaranthus viridis L., Celosia trygina L., Datura innoxia Mill., and an introduced woody species, Cuphea hyssopifolia Kunth., found are not included in the Maradi city list of species. Datura innoxia, Amaranthus viridis and Amaranthus spinosus are species known to tolerate different degrees of pollution and their ecology should be further study to better understand how they can be used for phytoremediation on this kind of sites
Tunneling in Decaying Cosmologies and the Cosmological Constant Problem
The tunneling rate, with exact prefactor, is calculated to first order in
for an empty closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe with
decaying cosmological term ( is the scale factor and
is a parameter ). This model is equivalent to a cosmology
with the equation of state . The calculations are
performed by applying the dilute-instanton approximation on the corresponding
Duru-Kleinert path integral.
It is shown that the highest tunneling rate occurs for corresponding to
the cosmic string matter universe. The obtained most probable cosmological
term, like one obtained by Strominger, accounts for a possible solution to the
