Refeeding Hypophosphatemia in Adolescents With Anorexia Nervosa: A Systematic Review
The rate of adolescents presenting with anorexia nervosa (AN) is increasing. Medically unstable adolescents are admitted to the hospital for nutrition restoration. A lack of global consensus on appropriate refeeding practices of malnourished patients has resulted in inconsistent refeeding practices. Refeeding hypophosphatemia (RH) is the most common complication associated with refeeding the malnourished patient. This review sought to identify the range of refeeding rates adopted globally and the implication that total energy intake and malnutrition may have on RH while refeeding adolescents with anorexia nervosa. Studies were identified by a systematic electronic search of medical databases from 1980 to September 2012. Seventeen publications were identified, including 6 chart reviews, 1 observational study, and 10 case reports, with a total of 1039 subjects. The average refeeding energy intake was 1186 kcal/d, ranging from 125–1900 kcal/d, with a mean percentage median body mass index (% mBMI) of 78%. The average incidence rate of RH was 14%. A significant correlation between malnutrition (% mBMI) and post-refeeding phosphate was identified (R 2 = 0.6, P = .01). This review highlights the disparity in refeeding rates adopted internationally in treating malnourished adolescents with anorexia nervosa. Based on this review, the severity of malnutrition seems to be a marker for the development of RH more so than total energy intake
The Progenitor Dependence of the Preexplosion Neutrino Emission in Core-Collapse Supernovae
We perform spherically-symmetric general-relativistic simulations of core
collapse and the postbounce preexplosion phase in 32 presupernova stellar
models of solar metallicity with zero-age-main-sequence masses of 12 M_{sun} to
120 M_{sun}. Using energy-dependent three-species neutrino transport in the
two-moment approximation with an analytic closure, we show that the emitted
neutrino luminosities and spectra follow very systematic trends that are
correlated with the compactness (~M/R) of the progenitor star's inner regions
via the accretion rate in the preexplosion phase. We find that these
qualitative trends depend only weakly on the nuclear equation of state, but
quantitative observational statements will require independent constraints on
the equation of state and the rotation rate of the core as well as a more
complete understanding of neutrino oscillations. We investigate the simulated
response of water Cherenkov detectors to the electron antineutrino fluxes from
our models and find that the large statistics of a galactic core collapse event

Tip–sample interactions: Extraction of single molecular pair potentials from force curves
This article describes a method for extracting the true tip–sample potential from an experimental force curve in atomic force microscopy. This potential is not the negative integral of the force curve. Rather, the potential is a more complicated function of the force curve and cantilever spring constant. If information about the shape of the tip is known, a decorrelation may be performed to extract molecular pair potentials from the total tip–sample potential. Design and implementation of a federated health record server
This paper describes the practical implementation of a federated health record serverbased on a generic and comprehensive public domain architecture and deployed in alive clinical setting.The authors, working at the Centre for Health Informatics and MultiprofessionalEducation (University College London), have built up over a decade of experiencewithin Europe on the requirements and information models that are needed to underpincomprehensive multi-professional electronic health records. This work has involvedcollaboration with a wide range of healthcare and informatics organisations and partnersin the healthcare computing industry across Europe though the EU Health Telematicsprojects GEHR, Synapses, EHCR-SupA, SynEx and Medicate. The resultingarchitecture models have influenced recent European standards in this area, such asCEN TC/251 ENV 13606. UCL has now designed and built a federated health recordserver based on these models which is now running in the Department ofCardiovascular Medicine at the Whittington Hospital in north London. A new EC FifthFramework project, 6WINIT, is enabling new and innovative IPv6 and wirelesstechnology solutions to be added to this work.The north London clinical demonstrator site has provided the solid basis from which toestablish "proof of concept" verification of the design approach, and a valuableopportunity to install, test and evaluate the results of the component engineeringundertaken during the EC funded projects
Public health and landfill sites
Landfill management is a complex discipline, requiring very high levels of organisation, and considerable investment. Until the early 1990’s most Irish landfill sites were not managed to modern standards. Illegal landfill sites are,
of course, usually not managed at all. Landfills are very active. The traditional idea of ‘put it in the ground and forget about it’ is entirely misleading. There is a lot of chemical and biological activity underground. This produces complex changes in the chemistry of the landfill, and of the emissions from the site.
The main emissions of concern are landfill gases and contaminated water (which is known as leachate). Both of these emissions have complex and changing chemical compositions, and both depend critically on what has been
put into the landfill. The gases spread mainly through the atmosphere, but also through the soil, while the leachate (the water) spreads through surface waters and the local groundwater. Essentially all unmanaged landfills will discharge large volumes of leachate into the local groundwater. In sites where the waste accepted has been
properly regulated, and where no hazardous wastes are present, there is a lot known about the likely composition of this leachate and there is some knowledge of its likely biological and health effects. This is not the case for
poorly regulated sites, where the composition of the waste accepted is unknown.
It is possible to monitor the emissions from landfills, and to reduce some of the adverse health and environmental effects of these. These emissions, and hence the possible health effects, depend greatly on the content of the landfill, and on the details of the local geology and landscape.
There is insufficient evidence to demonstrate a clear link between cancers
and exposure to landfill, however, it is noted that there may be an association
with adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight and birth defects. It
should be noted, however, that modern landfills, run in strict accordance with
standard operation procedures, would have much less impact on the health of
residents living in proximity to the site
Gamble mode: Resonance contact mode in atomic force microscopy
Active noise reduction has been accomplished in atomic force microscopy by applying a high frequency, low amplitude vibration to the cantilever while it is in contact with a surface. The applied excitation (>~ 200 kHz; ~ 1 nm) is acoustically coupled to the tip and dampens the resonance Q factors of the system. The applied frequency is well above the bandwidth of the acquisition system (50 kHz). We call this mode "gamble mode" or "resonance contact.

The Adjudication and Enforcement of Rights After Brexit
This report records the inaugural meeting and roundtable of the Brexit and Rights Engagement Network (BREN) on Tuesday 3rd July 2018 at Edinburgh Law School. Attendees at the roundtable included network members, fellow academics, representatives of the Scottish Parliament, the Scottish Government, the Scottish Human Rights Commission, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the legal professions, and NGOs. Two years after the EU Referendum and only a few days after the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (the 2018 Act) receiving Royal Assent, the Brexit and Rights Engagement Network met for the first time. The purpose of the roundtable was to ignite debate amongst legal scholars and policy makers, and others working in a rights environment relating to interpretation, adjudication and enforcement of rights in the lead up to, and following “Brexit Day,” (March 29, 2019). This report is split into two sections, Part A will consider the adjudication of EU rights, but also their enforcement under the 2018 Act and the Withdrawal Agreement, whilst ‘options for the future’ will be broached in Part B
