Negative Specific Heat in a Quasi-2D Generalized Vorticity Model
Negative specific heat is a dramatic phenomenon where processes decrease in
temperature when adding energy. It has been observed in gravo-thermal collapse
of globular clusters. We now report finding this phenomenon in bundles of
nearly parallel, periodic, single-sign generalized vortex filaments in the
electron magnetohydrodynamic (EMH) model for the unbounded plane under strong
magnetic confinement. We derive the specific heat using a steepest descent
method and a mean field property. Our derivations show that as temperature
increases, the overall size of the system increases exponentially and the
energy drops. The implication of negative specific heat is a runaway reaction,
resulting in a collapsing inner core surrounded by an expanding halo of

Concrete - filled steel tube columns - tests compared with Eurocode 4
This paper summarises the data from 1819 tests on concrete-filled steel tube columns and compares their failure load with the prediction of Eurocode 4. The full data is given on the website http://web.ukonline.co.uk/asccs2 . The comparison with Eurocode 4 is discussed and shows that Eurocode 4 can be used with confidence and generally gives good agreement with test results, the average Test/EC4 ratio for all tests being 1.11. The Eurocode 4 limitations on concrete strength could be safely extended to concrete with a cylinder strength of 75 N/mm2 for circular sections and 60 N/mm2 for rectangular sections
Enhanced Higgs boson production and avoidance of CP-violation and FCNC in the MPP inspired 2HDM
The multiple point principle (MPP) can be used to suppress non--diagonal
flavour transitions and CP violation in the two Higgs doublet extension of the
standard model. We discuss the quasi--fixed point scenario in the MPP inspired
two Higgs doublet model which leads to the enhanced production of Higgs

Is there a prescribed parameter's space for the adiabatic geometric phase?
The Aharonov-Anandan and Berry phases are determined for the cyclic motions
of a non-relativistic charged spinless particle evolving in the superposition
of the fields produced by a Penning trap and a rotating magnetic field.
Discussion about the selection of the parameter's space and the relationship

Speech analyzer
A speech signal is analyzed by applying the signal to formant filters which derive first, second and third signals respectively representing the frequency of the speech waveform in the first, second and third formants. A first pulse train having approximately a pulse rate representing the average frequency of the first formant is derived; second and third pulse trains having pulse rates respectively representing zero crossings of the second and third formants are derived. The first formant pulse train is derived by establishing N signal level bands, where N is an integer at least equal to two. Adjacent ones of the signal bands have common boundaries, each of which is a predetermined percentage of the peak level of a complete cycle of the speech waveform

Laboratory studies of Kapton degradation in an oxygen ion beam
Results are presented from a preliminary laboratory investigation of the degradation of the widely used polyimide Kapton under oxygen ion bombardment. Recent space shuttle flights have shown that Kapton and some other materials exposed to the apparent ram flow of residual atmosphere (at orbital velocity in low Earth orbit) lose mass and change their optical properties. It was hypothesized that these changes are caused by chemical interaction with atomic oxygen, aided by the 5-eV impact energy of atmospheric oxygen atoms in the ram. The reaction rate under O(+) bombardment seemed to be independent of incident energy over a wide range of energies. Although the flux of thermal ions in this experiment was much greater than the accelerated flux, the observed Kapton degradation was limited to the beam area and ram flow direction. This is consistent with an activation energy above the thermal energies but well below the beam energies. The results reproduce well the material loss, optical changes, SEM surface structure, and ram directionality of the samples returned by the shuttle. These factors, along with the lack of degradation under argon ion bombardment, are convincing evidence for ram flow oxidation as the mechanism of degradation
