Density scaling in viscous liquids: From relaxation times to four-point susceptibilities
We present numerical calculations of a four-point dynamic susceptibility,
chi_4(t), for the Kob-Andersen Lennard-Jones mixture as a function of
temperature T and density rho. Over a relevant range of T and rho, the full
t-dependence of chi_4(t) and thus the maximum in chi_4(t), which is
proportional to the dynamic correlation volume, are invariant for state points
for which the scaling variable rho^gamma/T is constant. The value of the
material constant gamma is the same as that which superposes the relaxation
time, tau, of the system versus rho^gamma/T. Thus, the dynamic correlation
volume is directly related to tau for any thermodynamic condition in the regime
where density scaling holds. Finally, we examine the conditions under which the
density scaling properties are related to the existence of strong correlations
between pressure and energy fluctuations.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, updated reference
Land vehicle antennas for satellite mobile communications
The RF performance, size, pointing system, and cost were investigated concepts are: for a mechanically steered 1 x 4 tilted microstrip array, a mechanically steered fixed-beam conformal array, and an electronically steered conformal phased array. Emphasis is on the RF performance of the tilted 1 x 4 antenna array and methods for pointing the various antennas studied to a geosynchronous satellite. An updated version of satellite isolations in a two-satellite system is presented. Cost estimates for the antennas in quantities of 10,000 and 100,000 unites are summarized
Spaceborne distributed SAR antenna
The MSAR c-band array panel was developed and tested. Each element of the antenna system is discussed individually as well as collectively. Textual descriptions together with test data are both used to enable a clear understanding of the antenna system performance. In general, test data has confirmed or exceeded expectations. Of particular note is the excellent cross polarization achieved with a field cancelling geometry
Access to general health care services by a New Zealand population with serious mental illness.
INTRODUCTION: Literature suggests that good quality health care access can have a positive impact on the health of people with serious mental illness (SMI), but literature relating to patterns of access by this group is equivocal. AIM: This study was designed to explore health care access patterns in a group of people with SMI and to compare them with a general New Zealand population group, in order for health providers to understand how they might contribute to positive health outcomes for this group. METHODS: The study surveyed 404 mental health consumers aged 18-65 years receiving care from one district health board in Auckland about their patterns of health care access. Results were compared with those from the New Zealand Health Survey of the general population. RESULTS: Findings suggest that the SMI consumer respondents had poorer physical health than the general population respondents, accessed health care services in more complex ways and were more particular about who they accessed for their care than the general population respondents. There was some concern from SMI consumers around discrimination from health care providers. The study also suggested that some proactive management with SMI consumers for conditions such as metabolic syndrome was occurring within the health care community. DISCUSSION: The first point of access for SMI consumers with general health problems is not always the family general practitioner and so other health professionals may sometimes need to consider the mental and physical health of such consumers in a wider context than their own specialism
Quantum Chessboards in the Deuterium Molecular Ion
We present a new algorithm for vibrational control in deuterium molecules
that is feasible with current experimental technology. A pump mechanism is used
to create a coherent superposition of the D2+ vibrations. A short, intense
infrared control pulse is applied after a chosen delay time to create selective
interferences. A `chessboard' pattern of states can be realized in which a set
of even- or odd-numbered vibrational states can be selectively annihilated or
enhanced. A technique is proposed for experimental realization and observation
of this effect using 5 fs pulses of 790 nm radiation, with intermediate
intensity (5e13 W/cm2)Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure
Religion and religious education : comparing and contrasting pupilsâ and teachersâ views in an English school
This publication builds on and develops the English findings of the qualitative study of European teenagersâ perspectives on religion and religious education (Knauth et al. 2008), part of âReligion in Education: A contribution to dialogue or a factor of conflict in transforming societies of European countries?â (REDCo) project. It uses data gathered from 27 pupils, aged 15-16, from a school in a multicultural Northern town in England and compares those findings with data gathered from ten teachers in the humanities faculty of the same school, collected during research for the Warwick REDCo Community of Practice. Comparisons are drawn between the teachersâ and their pupilsâ attitudes and values using the same structure as the European study: personal views and experiences of religion, the social dimension of religion, and religious education in school. The discussion offers an analysis of the similarities and differences in worldviews and beliefs which emerged. These include religious commitment/observance differences between the mainly Muslim-heritage pupils and their mainly non-practising Christian-heritage teachers. The research should inform the ways in which the statutory duties to promote community cohesion and equalities can be implemented in schools. It should also facilitate intercultural and interreligious understanding between teachers and the pupils from different ethnic and religious backgrounds
Searches for New Quarks and Leptons Produced in Z-Boson Decay
We have searched for events with new-particle topologies in 390 hadronic Z decays with the Mark II detector at the SLAC Linear Collider. We place 95%-confidence-level lower limits of 40.7 GeV/c^2 for the top-quark mass, 42.0 GeV/c^2 for the mass of a fourth-generation charge - 1/3 quark, and 41.3 GeV/c^2 for the mass of an unstable Dirac neutral lepton
Measurement of Z Decays into Lepton Pairs
We present measurements by the Mark II experiment of the ratios of the leptonic partial widths of the Z boson to the hadronic partial width. The results are Î_(ee)/Î_(had)=0.037_(-0.012^()+0.016),Î_(””)/Î_(had)=0.053-_(0.015)^(+0.020), and Î_(ÏÏ)/Î_(had)=0.066_(-0.017)^(+0.021), in good agreement with the standard-model prediction of 0.048. From the average leptonic width result, Î_(ll)/Î_(had)=0.053_(-0.009)^(+0.010), we derive Î_(had)=1.56_(-0.24)^(+0.28) GeV. We find for the vector coupling constants of the tau and muon v_Ï^2=0.31±0.31_(-0.30)^(+0.43) and v_ÎŒ^2=0.05±0.30_(-0.23)^(+0.34)
