An HI study of three long-tailed irregular galaxies in the cluster Abell1367

We present the results on the distribution and kinematics of H\sc{i} gas with higher sensitivity and in one case of higher spectral resolution as well than reported earlier, of three irregular galaxies CGCG 097073, 097079 and 097087 (UGC 06697) in the cluster Abell 1367. These galaxies are known to exhibit long (50-75 kpc) tails of radio continuum and optical emission lines (Hα\alpha) pointing away from the cluster centre and arcs of starformation on the opposite sides of the tails. These features as well as the H{\sc i} properties, with two of the galaxies (CGCG 097073 and 097079) exhibiting sharper gradients in H{\sc i} intensity on the side of the tails, are consistent with the H{\sc i} gas being affected by the ram pressure of the intracluster medium. However the H{\sc i} emission in all the three galaxies extends to much smaller distances than the radio-continuum and Hα\alpha tails, and are possibly still bound to the parent galaxies. Approximately 20-30 per cent of the H{\sc i} mass is seen to accumulate on the downstream side due to the effects of ram pressure.Comment: 19 pages, 19 figures, 3 tables, accepted for publication in the Bulletin of the Astronomical Society of Indi

Electroconvulsive therapy in geriatric patients: A literature review and program report from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia, USA

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is an effective therapeutic intervention in the elderly patients with major depression, especially those with psychosis, suicidality, catatonia, nutritional compromise, and resistance to medications. Response rates can be as high as 80%. We present an extensive review of the relevant literature, provide a description of the ECT program at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA, and present results of our experience with ECT in fifty elderly patients. The treatments were safe, well tolerated, and produced high response rates, variably between 68% and 84%. Patients in the long‑term maintenance ECT program continue to show sustained benefits from ECT

Cosmo-dynamics and dark energy with a quadratic EoS: anisotropic models, large-scale perturbations and cosmological singularities

In general relativity, for fluids with a linear equation of state (EoS) or scalar fields, the high isotropy of the universe requires special initial conditions, and singularities are anisotropic in general. In the brane world scenario anisotropy at the singularity is suppressed by an effective quadratic equation of state. There is no reason why the effective EoS of matter should be linear at the highest energies, and a non-linear EoS may describe dark energy or unified dark matter (Paper I, astro-ph/0512224). In view of this, here we study the effects of a quadratic EoS in homogenous and inhomogeneous cosmological models in general relativity, in order to understand if in this context the quadratic EoS can isotropize the universe at early times. With respect to Paper I, here we use the simplified EoS P=alpha rho + rho^2/rho_c, which still allows for an effective cosmological constant and phantom behavior, and is general enough to analyze the dynamics at high energies. We first study anisotropic Bianchi I and V models, focusing on singularities. Using dynamical systems methods, we find the fixed points of the system and study their stability. We find that models with standard non-phantom behavior are in general asymptotic in the past to an isotropic fixed point IS, i.e. in these models even an arbitrarily large anisotropy is suppressed in the past: the singularity is matter dominated. Using covariant and gauge invariant variables, we then study linear perturbations about the homogenous and isotropic spatially flat models with a quadratic EoS. We find that, in the large scale limit, all perturbations decay asymptotically in the past, indicating that the isotropic fixed point IS is the general asymptotic past attractor for non phantom inhomogeneous models with a quadratic EoS. C4.5 Decision Tree Implementation in Sistem Informasi Zakat (Sizakat) to Automatically Determining the Amount of Zakat Received by Mustahik

In general, Zakat Information Systems is established to manage the zakat services, so that the data can be well documented. This study proposes the existence of a feature that will determine the amount of zakat received by Mustahik automatically using C4.5 Decision Tree algorithm. This feature is expected to make the process of determining the amount of zakat be done easy and optimal. The data used in this study are the data taken from Masjid An-Nur, Pancoran, South Jakarta. The experiment results show that the proposed feature produces an accuracy rate over 85%

This study describes the cross-cultural leadership style is about the culture expats applied expats, expats leadership style applied to the company, and the problems faced by expatriates in leading local employees at PT. Krakatau Daedong Machinery. lThe research type was descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The location of this research was conducted at PT. Krakatau Daedong Machinery, PT. Krakatau Daedong Machinery is a subsidiary company of PT. Krakatau Posco from South Korea engaged in the steel industry. Methods of data collection used were used that documentation, triangulation and linterviews were conducted in three South Korean expatriates and four local employees. The results showed cross-cultural leadership style adopted by the third South Korean expatriates in PT. Krakatau Daedong Machinery is centered leadership lstyle subordinate (democratic). South Korean culture has a character that has a high collectivity and emphasis on relationships, so that cross-cultural leadership style applied democratic style. Democratic style seen in corporate decision-making is done in consultation with local employees, expatriates role for employees, and the delegation of authority to employees. Problems faced by expats lies in the lcultural barrier which consists of differences in language, nonverbal misunderstandings, prejudices /lstereotypes of the local employees
