2 Kings 18:26-28 and the Role of Indigenous Language in the Growth of African Independent Churches in Nigeria

This research exposed the fact that the use of foreign language during worship in the mainline church was a setback to the churches in Africa. This gap was largely filled by the indigenous church leaders at the beginning of their advent through the instrument of indigenous language. Language is a pivotal means of self expression, in the communication of the religious message and medium of interactions in the religious context. Its relevance makes man a unique creature among others. This study attempted to reveal the successes achieved so far by the indigenous people as they Africanized the Christian worship with the instrument and use of African languages. It uncovered the use of indigenous language as the weapon with which they Africanized Christianity and took the gospel to the root of their society. How indigenous language permeated the liturgy of the indigenous churches and their operations with African cosmological views are exposed in this study. It concluded with cautions to the modern trend of using purely English language to conduct worship in new age Pentecostal churches as a way of limiting their outreaches to others in the land

Effects of fertilizer phosphorus and poultry droppings treatments on growth and nutrient components of pepper (Capsicum annuum L)

The effect of five phosphrous levels (0, 25, 50, 75, 100 and 125 kg/ha) and five poultry dropping (0, 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 kg/ha) levels on the growth, growth yield, yield components, nutrients concentration and food values of pepper (Capsicum annuum L) were observed from 2002 to 2003 raining seasons. Phosphrous levels significantly increased pepper plant height, number of leaves per plant, number of branches per plant and leaf area up to 125 kg (p/ha) level. The phosphorus application also significantly increased early flowering, maturity and yield (ton/ha) of the treated plants. Application of organic waste, poultry dropping increased the growth yield and yield components of pepper significantly more than the fertilizer phosphrous. Since poultry dropping is cheap to obtain and enhances the pepper plant performance, it is recommended for use. C. annuun was found to contain both the major and minor nutrient elements which can supply the body with ingredients for growth.Key words: Poultry droppings; caspicum species, nutrient contents, interaction absorption

Risk Management In Nigeria Banking Industry

The research paper examined the risk management in the Nigerian banking industry. First bank of Nigeria PLC was used as the case study being the oldest and the biggest bank out of the twenty- three (23) banks currently operating in Nigeria economy. The data used for the study were collected majorly from primary source through the distribution of questionnaires to respondents in the bank. Simple percentages were used to analyze the respondents’ responses to each of the question while Chi- square ( ) and the Analysis of Variance statistic (ANOVA) were used to test the stated hypothesis. The analysis revealed that risk in the likelihood of fraud and forgery, operational risk, market risk and system risk abound in the Nigeria banking operations which needed to be managed appropriately in order to improve performances and profitability of the banks. Based on the research findings, it was discovered that Nigeria banking operations are affected more by credit risk and operational risk than market risk. Fraud and forgeries also play adverse role in banking daily operations. However, the risk management techniques put in place by the banks have really curbed or reduced the various risks confronting Nigeria banks. It was therefore recommended among others that Nigeria government should strengthen the legal framework for the enforcement of loans repayment from borrowers to banks upon loan maturity. And that financial regulator must adopt risk management approach that is in complete compliance with international standards focusing on the financial and operational risks faced by banks so as to guide against any risks associated with the banking operations and existence

Qualitative determination of chemical and nutritional composition of Parkia biglobosa (Jacq.) Benth

Qualitative determination of chemical and nutritional composition of Parkia biglobosa seeds an underexploited crop seed in Nigeria was carried out. Seeds of P. biglobosa were found to be rich in lipid, protein, carbohydrate, soluble sugars and ascorbic acid. The cotyledon was very nutritious, has less fibre and ash contents when compared to that of testa. The oil content was suitable for consumption since it contains very low acid and iodine contents. The oil has very high saponification value and hence would be useful in soap industry. Some simple reducing sugars, including lactose, were identified. The Efficacy of using Gravity Concentration Methods in Value Addition to Ajabanoko Iron Ore for use in Nigerian Smelting Plants towards Metallurgical Purposes

This research work x - rays the use of gravity separation methods – Wifely shaking tabling and Air flotation (Kip Kelly air floating machine) to produce a high iron ore concentrate that could be used in both Blast furnace and Direct Reduced Induction (DRI) operation as a feed towards the production of Nigerian iron and steel. Crude iron ore assaying 40.72%Fe was beneficiated by using dry air floating processing method and wet wilfley shaking tabling process after characterization and the determination of liberation size of the iron ore and grinding of the crude iron ore to this liberation size of -500 + 355µm.The result revealed that the use of Air floating method gave 67.95%Fe, low acid oxide gangue of 7.3%, while Wilfley shaking tabling gave 51.16%Fe, low acid oxide gangue of 18.6%. It does shows that Air float tabling machine met the required standard grade of iron (≥ 65%Fe) content needed as a charge for the furnace operation, while, the assay and recovery obtain of wilfley shaking tabling could not meet the standard requirement for iron and steel production in the country, Nigeria

INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING PRACTICES IN THE EAST END OF FREETOWN, SIERRA LEONE

Adequate dietary intake may be a major determinant of the health outcome of children. This study aims at describing the infant and young child feeding practices amongst a group of mothers, factors affecting such practices and the effect of the practice on the nutritional status of the children.Semi-closed ended questionnaire was used to address some of the Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) indicators among the three hundred and forty-seven mothers.Almost all of the index children in this study were breastfed with a majority within 30 minutes of delivery. Breast milk was the first drink in 79.8% of cases, and Exclusive breastfeeding rate was 26.3%. Breastfeeding for less than six months tends to be more prevalent among the low socioeconomic group and those who had Antenatal Care in the private clinics. Complimentary feeds for the majority of the children consisted mainly of cereal based gruels. There was a positive correlation between the nutritional status and the first drink, educational level of mother and length of breastfeeding.Poor infant and young child feeding practices impinged negatively on the nutritional status of the children. Improved training of health care workers, female education, and empowerment are recommended.

Synthesis and Characterization of Graphene-Cu Composite Via Hydrothermal Method

In this paper, graphene-copper composite was synthesized via hydrothermal method using different compositions from 5 to 25%. The grain size and copper composition are observed to decrease proportionally to increase in band gap. The effect of composition fluctuate the peaks shift. The peak increased linearly with increasing temperature for each composition. The band gap reduces with increasing temperature for each composition. Short calcined duration on samples is observed to cause a little lower band gap value than that of longer duration. Spatial analysis of tuberculosis and risk factors at the lowest administrative level in Nigeria

BACKGROUNDFew studies have utilized modern techniques of spatial data analysis to understand the distribution of tuberculosis (TB) and its possible predictors. In 2013, an estimated 9 million new TB cases and 1.5 million deaths occurred worldwide, out of which 360,000 deaths were HIV related. AIMTo assist in planning key interventions for the control of TB at a sub-national level, the studysought to explore the spatial distribution of TB and associated risk factors at the lowest administrative level in Nigeria. METHODOLOGYThis was an ecological study carried out using number of notified TB cases for the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in 2013. Bayesian spatial regression analysis was conducted to identify high-risk clusters of the disease and to assess associated factors . RESULTSAnalysis revealed that TB was significantly clustered in 138 (17%) LGAs. Significant associations were found with household size, urban residence, access to transportation, population density, number of TB diagnostic services. Other predictors, including a composite index of socioeconomic status, living in a single room, number of TB treatment centres, and total health facilities in the LGA were not significantly associated with TB incidence. CONCLUSIONThe study identified LGAs with elevated risk as well as significant factors associated with TB. This information can assist policymakers in rationally planning targeted specific interventions with the potential to effectively control TB in the country
