Quantum field theoretic approach to neutrino oscillations in matter
We consider neutrino oscillations in non-uniform matter in a quantum field
theoretic (QFT) approach, in which neutrino production, propagation and
detection are considered as a single process. We find the conditions under
which the oscillation probability can be sensibly defined and demonstrate how
the properly normalized oscillation probability can be obtained in the QFT
framework. We derive the evolution equation for the oscillation amplitude and
discuss the conditions under which it reduces to the standard
Schr\"odinger-like evolution equation. It is shown that, contrary to the common
usage, the Schr\"odinger-like evolution equation is not applicable in certain
cases, such as oscillations of neutrinos produced in decays of free pions
provided that sterile neutrinos with eV exist.Comment: LaTeX, 24 pages + 16 pages of appendices, 1 figure. V2: typos

Skipper-CCDs: Current applications and future
This work briefly discusses the potential applications of the Skipper-CCD technology in astronomy and reviews its current use in dark matter and neutrino experiments. An overview of the ongoing efforts to build multi-kilogram experiments with these sensors is given, in the context of the Oscura experiment. First results from the characterization of Oscura sensors from the first 200 mm wafer-fabrication run with a new vendor are presented. The overall yield of the electron counting capability of these sensors is 71%. A noise of 0.087 eâ RMS, with 1225 samples/pix, and a dark current of (0.031±0.013) eâ/pix/day at 140 K were measured
Description of atmospheric conditions at the Pierre auger observatory using the global data assimilation system (GDAS)
Atmospheric conditions at the site of a cosmic ray observatory must be known for reconstructing observed extensive air showers. The Global Data Assimilation System (GDAS) is a global atmospheric model predicated on meteorological measurements and numerical weather predictions. GDAS provides altitude-dependent profiles of the main state variables of the atmosphere like temperature, pressure, and humidity. The original data and their application to the air shower reconstruction of the Pierre Auger Observatory are described. By comparisons with radiosonde and weather station measurements obtained on-site in MalargĂŒe and averaged monthly models, the utility of the GDAS data is shown. </p
