Transport and storage of LNG in container tanks

    No full text
The work presents issues with the structure and thermal calculations of mobile tank for transport and storage of LNG. A modern design of cryogenic tank container and stationery cryogenic tank is presented in the paper. Mobile cryogenics container tank has been designed for transportation of LNG as well as other liquefied cryogenic gases with the temperature down to -196 centigrade. The analysis included two types of logistics solutions: one involving the transport full container, which is removable from the vehicle and left in the workplace, and the second solution with reloading from mobile tank into simplified container tank or other mobile tank located in the workplace. Simplified container tank and mobile tank have been designed to storage some cryogenics gases as well as mobile container but without transportation of them. Modern and effective insulation materials were applied in the tank structure. Therefore, the liquefied cryogenic gases can be stored for a long time periods. Presented are selected depending on the extent of heat exchange in cryogenic conditions, as well as a model for FEM calculations of thermal insulation inside the tank and supports. Simulation results show the long storage times obtained for a simplified container which are close to the times obtained by stationary tanks, however a lot easier to transport without charge. Presented solutions and results of simulations may indicate, that depending on the requirements and considering manufacturing costs and operational conditions, the proper variant of the tank can be chosen

Background. Hereditary spastic paraplegia (HSP) is a heterogeneous group of inherited disorders affecting predominantly the motor cortex and pyramidal tract, which results in slowly progressing gait disorders, as well as spasticity and weakness of lower extremities. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been previously investigated as a therapeutic tool for similar motor deficits in a number of neurologic conditions. The aim of this randomized, controlled trial was to investigate the therapeutic potential of rTMS in various forms of HSP, including pure and complicated forms, as well as adrenomyeloneuropathy. Methods. We recruited 15 patients (five women and 10 men; mean age 43.7±10.6 years) with the mentioned forms of HSP. The intervention included five sessions of bilateral 10 Hz rTMS over primary motor areas of the muscles of lower extremities and five sessions of similar sham stimulation. Results. One patient dropped out due to seizure, and 14 patients completed the study protocol. After real stimulation, the strength of the proximal and distal muscles of lower extremities increased, and the spasticity of the proximal muscles decreased. Change in spasticity was still present during follow-up assessment. No effect was observed regarding gait velocity. No changes were seen after sham stimulation. A post hoc analysis revealed an inverse relation between motor threshold and the change of the strength after active rTMS. Conclusions. rTMS may have potential in improving weakness and spasticity of lower extremities in HSP, especially of proximal muscles whose motor areas are located more superficially. This trial is registered with Clinicaltrials.gov NCT03627416

Design of the forward straw tube tracker for the PANDA experiment

The design of the Forward Tracker for the Forward Spectrometer of the PANDA experiment is described. The tracker consists of 6 tracking stations, each comprising 4 planar double layers of straw tube detectors, and has a total material budget of only 2% X0. The straws are made self-supporting by a 1 bar over-pressure of the working gas mixture (Ar/CO2). This allows to use lightweight and compact rectangular support frames for the double layers and to split the frames into pairs of C-shaped half-frames for an easier installation on the beam line
