Swallow it whole

One of the major concerns of oral medicines is patient's ability to swallow. It was reported that 4 of 10 of adults struggle to swallow medicines. Notably, in the older populations this difficulty is often enhanced by dysphagia or dry mouth. Coating oral medicines with polymers is a common method to improve swallowing of the tablets. We carry out the clinical study to examine swallowability of tablets with different coatings in comparison with uncoated tablets. Moreover, our research looks into the texture and overall mouthfeel of the tablets. The study was designed according to the standard rules of sensory analysis. We aim to compare the influence of variables like time to swallow or amount of used water, on the swallowability of the tablets. Additionally we try to evaluate the attributes of mouthfeel and use them to predict the acceptability of bespoke tablets

Study of Stability Changes of Model Fuel Blends

Fuel during long-term storage, even at low temperatures, undergoes oxidation to various products, which are further converted into high molecular compounds precipitating from the liquid. The stability of the stored fuel depends on its chemical composition and storage conditions. Chemical conversions associated with the degradation of fuel are not well recognized, so it is difficult to predict the storage duration of such fuel and control the rate of ageing. Because of the variety of hydrocarbon composition of commercial fuels resulting from the diversity of crude oil and oil processing methods, surrogate fuels are used for simulating behaviour of commercial fuels in the various tests. In this paper, the type and dose of model components of fuel were chosen. To determine the degradation degree of model blends, few tests of accelerated ageing were selected. These methods were used to determine induction period, content of deposits and resistance to oxidation. Effect of inhibiting and catalyzing compounds on fuel oxidation was verified. An infrared spectroscopy analysis of the oxidized model blends was also performed. The results of this study showed slight changes of selected properties of the surrogate fuels. The most significant changes occurred for the model blends containing substances initiating radical autoxidation reactions and bio-components

Działania poradni psychologiczno-pedagogicznych w zakresie edukacji włączającej

W publikacji omówiono zmiany wprowadzone w 2017 r. w zakresie prawa oświatowego, zwłaszcza w kontekście realizowanych przez szkoły i poradnie psychologiczno-pedagogiczne działań mających na celu wdrażanie w coraz szerszym zakresie edukacji włączającej. Konieczność świadomego kierowania procesem uczenia się w taki sposób, by każdy uczeń – także ze specjalnymi potrzebami edukacyjnymi – mógł realizować zadania rozwojowe odpowiednio do indywidualnych możliwości i predyspozycji, wymusza zacieśnianie współpracy między placówkami oświatowymi różnych typów. Autorka przedstawia przykłady konkretnych problemów, które udaje się rozwiązać dzięki spójnym działaniom szkół i poradni oraz indywidualizacji procesu edukacji. Prezentuje również „dobre praktyki” mające zainspirować do wdrażania rozwiązań służących efektywnej współpracy najistotniejszych dla dziecka środowisk – szkoły i rodziny oraz instytucji wspomagających

NATURA POST-PRAWDY

Wykazuję, że post-prawda jest blisko pokrewna prawdzie pragmatycznej w ujęciu Williama Jamesa, tj. prawdzie „użytecznościowej”. Jako taka post-prawda nie może być kwalifikowana – jak to się nagminnie utrzymuje – jako fałsz (negacja prawdy) w sensie zadanym w klasycznej idei prawdy. Post-prawdziwość nie jest bowiem wartością poznawczą w klasycznym systemie wartości poznawczych, a środkiem działania, a konkretniej środkiem realizowania interesów jej dysponentów przy pomocy kamuflażu poznawczego. Obecna erupcja post-prawd jest efektem rozpowszechnienia się pragmatycznego systemu wartości i infekowania nim całej sfery publicznej oraz prywatnej

Addison's Disease Revisited in Poland: Year 2008 versus Year 1990

This study aimed at comparing two groups of patients with Addison's disease: A, including 180 patients described in 1991 and B, consisting of 138 patients registered since 1991. The incidence of coexisting autoimmune disorders was evaluated and etiological factors were analyzed. Immunological and imaging studies (computed tomography in group B) were performed. Adrenal autoantibodies were examined by an indirect immunofluorescence technique in group A, and by the assay measuring autoantibodies against steroid 21-hydroxylase in group B. Adrenal autoantibodies were revealed in 37% of patients examined by the immunofluorescence method and in 63% investigated by the modern technique. Tuberculosis was found in 52 patients in the group A and in two patients in the group B; metastatic infiltrations of the adrenals in CT were detected in 16 patients. Probable autoimmune Addison's disease was diagnosed in 125/180 patients (69%) in the group A and in 116/138 patients (84%) in the group B
