The Macedonian Human DNA Bank dates back to year 2000 and it covers several project areas. The nurse as a part of the professional team performs many professional activities, by which, she participates in the research activity of hDNAMKD. AIM: Our aim is to present the role of the nurse in hDNAMKD, starting from obtaining informed consent, taking samples, extraction and finally, storage of DNA. MATERIAL AND METHODS: DNA samples are taken from voluntary donors, by a previously signed agreement, freely and without pressure. The individuals are informed about the type of the research that will be done, arrangements for access and sharing of the stored samples and duration of storage period. DNA is isolated from the peripheral blood by phenol-chloroform extraction method. The quality and the quantity of the isolated genomic DNA is determined by measuring the 260/280 ratio, using GENEQUANT pro RNA/DNA calculator. The intactness of DNA is established with electrophoresis of DNA on an agarose gel after which it is aliquoted in normalized concentration and stored in a freezer Heraus Sepatech at -80оC.RESULTS: Three project areas are defined in hDNAMKD: anthropology, unrelated patients and related patients. The lab code for the DNA samples that are stored in the Macedonian Bank for human DNA is MKDSPI. The total number of samples that are stored in the Macedonian bank for human DNA by the end of year 2010 is 5252 samples; 1575 in anthropology, 2186 unrelated patients and 1491 related patients.CONCLUSION: The nurse participates in collection of all relevant information for the genetic research, like enquiring family history, medical information and informed consent from the donors. At the same time she must obey the ethical principles for maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of genetic information. The nurse represents an essential part of the hDNAMKD team, for which she has to have a lot of experience and knowledge in the field of genetics and medical ethics

INTERACTION DIAGRAMS AXIAL FORCE-BENDING MOMENT FOR FIRE EXPOSED STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE SECTIONS

The bearing capacity of the column cross section can be determined from the interaction diagram moment-axial force (M–N). Fire induced temperatures cause reduction of the load-bearing characteristics of the constitutive materials, steel and concrete, and this effect directly reflects on the reduction of the axial force and the bending moment that could be accepted by the column cross section, respectively the interaction diagram of the column cross section is changed. The load bearing capacity of the steel-concrete composite columns exposed to fire from all four sides and loaded by axial force and uni-axial or bi-axial bending moments, was estimated on the basis of the changes in the interaction diagrams moment-axial force amd the results are presented in this paper. Different types of composite columns made of totally or partially encased steel sections, or concrete filled hollow sections were analyzed and a detailed discussion on the effects of the shape of the cross section and the cross sectional dimensions are presented

Several redox systems of the type: Fe3+, Fe(III)-complex, Cu"+, Cu(II)-complex - Na2S20 5, were studied using p0tentiodynamic and potentiometric techniques, in order to evaluate their potential to initiate acrylamide polymerisation in aqueous media. A group of carboxylate amines, with the iminodiacetate group as a basic structural unit, were used as complexing agents in order to follow the effect of the increased coordination ability resulting from the new substituents involved, especially the new iminodiacetate groups. In addition the effects of structural and steric factors on the ability of an agent to form complexes and on the strength of the resulting complexes were examined. In all cases a clear effect of the complex strength factor was found; electrolysis at controlled potential and electrochemical methods allow the most probable reaction mechanism of the initiator systems to be proposed

The Kinetics of Polyacrylamide Adsorption on Polycrystalline Gold

    Get PDF
Fast potential step measurements (0.9 ® 1.9 ® 0.9 V, E vs. she) with simultaneous monitoring of the double layer capacity were applied in the study of the kinetics of PAA adsorption on gold from 0.5 M H2SO4, at 293 K. It was shown that the addition of PAA to the solution at 1.9 V (in the presence of a very thin oxide layer at the gold surface of 1 nm) does not affect the value of the capacity of the Au/Au2O3/PAA-solution interface, which was also confirmed by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. After the very fast cathodic reduction of the thin oxide layer (step 1.9 ® 0.9 V) for several milliseconds, the initial adsorption of PAA molecules at the bare gold surface reappeared in approx. 10 ms, causing exhaustion of the metal/solution boundary layer. The induction region (dq/dt = 0) as well as the diffusion controlled region (dq/dt = const. = f Mn((PAA); cPAA) are characteristic of low concentrations in the solution. According to the experimentally obtained linear parts of the (q / logt)-dependences, values of the diffusion coefficient of PAA-molecules with different molecular weights were calculated. These values follow fairly well the empirical equation: DPAA = 7.03 × 10–4 Mn–0.66 cm2 s–1. Using the same procedure, the diffusion coefficient of 9 × 10–6 cm2 s–1 for adsorption of »small« organic molecules, such as HMBT, was calculated

The strong progress and development of the information technology, especially the availability and massive use of the Internet, has led to that the 90-ies of the last century to be remembered as a period of quiet and spontaneous transition towards the new postindustrial age in which the soft values of the organizations defined in the terms organizational learning, knowledge management, intellectual capital, organizational intelligence etc., transformed the knowledge into a key resource for sustainable growth and innovative development of each company. Therefore, it is rightly pointed out that the central task of the modern managers is to learn how to manage the business knowledge, i.e., to understand the principles of knowledge networking and its effective use through the technological, human and business networks. This directs towards creation of appropriate strategies, including the strategy for development of the organizational knowledge as a planned and deliberated managing process in the new technology – productive and economic context.Although the inertia makes many organizations in the country to still act traditionally, the reality shows them the dysfunction and unsustainability of such way of operating. Emphasis on the so called “sharers of knowledge communities” which increasingly pose themselves as a real business context, should lead also in our country to a shift of the focus of interest towards the knowledge, the communities and relationships. This should be preceded by a period of change and development of awareness for the importance of the interpersonal dependence as an aspect of the appropriate organizational culture, which in many researches emerges as a central variable of the change. In this context, the processes of re-cultivation is necessary to lead toward values such as: free flow of knowledge, readiness for initiating, accepting, creating, sharing, etc., as a basis of the new culture of organizational learning and knowledge management. The basic assumption of this paper is to emphasize the importance of the knowledge for the SMEs i.e. their awareness of its place and role as a fundamental resource in the circumstances of modern business. Therefore, a simple methodological procedure is used - a survey conducted on a sample of 201 organizations from the SME sector in the cities of Skopje, Bitola, Ohrid, Prilep, Kumanovo, Kavadarci, Resen, Krushevo and Demir Hisar. Indicative results have been obtained that point to valid conclusions. Keywords: knowledge management, change, organizational developmen
