    Visual Art, a Pedagogical Tool of Plural Knowledge between Creative Productions and Community Ties: a Theoretical-Practical Research Between Italy and Kenya

    Educational places are changed into meaningful spaces where it is possible to unleash creativity and discover plural perspectives when visual art becomes a pedagogical tool, which activates cooperative dynamics, co-building knowledge, and relational skills. This hypothesis was verified as a part of the European project «TICASS» – Technologies of Imaging in Communication, Art and Social Sciences (2017-2021) –, carried out between Europe and Africa. Starting from the reference framework, various interpretations of visual languages and ways of perception of individuals belonging to different socio-cultural contexts were investigated (Lester, 2010). This contribution introduces paths and outcomes of the research action interventions, carried out by a psycho-pedagogical research team in kindergartens and primary schools since 2018, involving over 100 children aged 3 to 5 in Italy and over 300 children aged 8 to 12 in Kenya (Deluigi, 2019; Deluigi, Machova & Stara, 2021). Methodology: The collection of qualitative data took place through participatory observation, supervision of the workshops, and the ongoing critical reflection of the research group. This analysis deals with the use of the image as a stimulus carefully researched and introduced through silent books (Zizioli, 2017) with a less structured input to leave room for a creative process. Thus, children become producers of images and imaginaries drawn from their very personal creativity (Malaguzzi, 1998). Results/Conclusions: The results of the workshops carried out can motivate educators, teachers, and pedagogues to design interactive experiences among peers (including adults), through the use of creative languages as mediators of community learning processes in an intercultural and transcultural framework (Cooper & Sjostrom, 2006)

    Mechanochemical transformations have made chemists enter unknown territories, forcing a different chemistry perspective. While questioning or revisiting familiar concepts belonging to solution chemistry, mechanochemistry has broken new ground, especially in the panorama of organic synthesis. Not only does it foster new “thinking outside the box”, but it also has opened new reaction paths, allowing to overcome the weaknesses of traditional chemistry exactly where the use of well-established solution-based methodologies rules out progress. In this Review, the reader is introduced to an intriguing research subject not yet fully explored and waiting for improved understanding. Indeed, the study is mainly focused on organic transformations that, although impossible in solution, become possible under mechanochemical processing conditions, simultaneously entailing innovation and expanding the chemical space

    Molecular and Biological Analysis on Ommastrephes caroli Findings in the Central Western Mediterranean Sea (Sardinian Waters) Including First Age Investigation Using Eye Lenses and Beaks

    Molecular identifications based on two mitochondrial markers (cytochrome c oxidase subunit I -COI- and 16S ribosomal RNA gene -16S-) have been implemented to confirm the morphological identification of eight specimens collected in the Central western Mediterranean. Molecular data show they belonged to a recently resurrected species of the genus Ommastrephes, i.e., O. caroli, known to be distributed in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Despite this, molecular analyses of COI sequences evidenced the presence of potential genetic differentiation between Mediterranean and Atlantic samples, highlighting the need for further studies, with more individuals to investigate the connectivity between individuals living in the two areas. Furthermore, morphological, biometric and reproductive features here reported, could be useful in evaluating possible distinctive biological features between the Mediterranean and Atlantic individuals. Female mature size was larger than the male. The relationships obtained between the beak measurements and body sizes (DML; TW) were better described by a power model. Asynchronous oocytes development with relatively small oocytes (0.05–1.10 mm) and a protracted intermittent spawning with active feeding were observed. This study also reported for the specie O. caroli the first data on the potential fecundity estimated (840061 oocytes), the oviducal load (90000 ripe oocytes) as well as the number of seminal receptacles and the size and morphology of the spermatangia found in the buccal mass of all mated females. Even if on a low sample size, beaks and eye lenses were used for the first time in O. caroli for age estimation. The statistically significant relationship found between increments counted in eye lenses and beaks highlighted the reliability of the lenses to estimate age in O. caroli, even if further studies will be needed for its validation. Assuming a daily increment for both structures, a mean life span of about 12–13 months was estimated for both sexes, which is consistent with the sexual maturity condition observed in all the samples and the semelparity known for cephalopods coleoids

    Subclinical Ocular Motility Dysfunction and Extraocular Muscle Changes in Inactive Graves' Orbitopathy

    This study aimed to investigate the presence of structural and functional changes in extraocular muscles (EMs) among patients with inactive Graves’ orbitopathy (GO) classified according to the Clinical Activity Score (CAS). Sixty-seven patients with Graves’ disease (GD) and inactive GO were included. The data collected included clinical parameters, thyroid function, autoantibody levels, EOM morphology via orbital ultrasound (US), and ocular motility. Patients were stratified into Red Filter Test (RFT)-positive or RFT-negative groups based on the presence or absence of latent diplopia during the RFT examination. Thirty-three patients (49.25%) exhibited latent diplopia on the RFT, despite not reporting double vision during standard ocular motility tests. Significant differences were observed between the two groups in terms of age, disease duration, intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation in up-gaze, and medial rectus muscle thickness (p < 0.05). No significant differences were found in thyroid status, TRAb and ATA levels, CASs, exophthalmos, or lateral rectus thickness between the two groups. This study revealed that in inactive GO, subclinical EM dysfunction and morphological changes may be present, which might not be apparent through routine ocular examinations. The RFT is effective in detecting latent diplopia, highlighting its utility in identifying subtle ocular motility issues and subclinical muscle involvement. Comprehensive evaluations combining functional tests like the RFT and imaging are essential for early detection of GO-related abnormalities, enabling tailored and prompt management and improving patient outcomes

    Localisation-to-delocalisation transition of moir\'{e} excitons in WSe2_2/MoSe2_2 heterostructures

    Moir\'{e} excitons (MXs) are electron-hole pairs localised by the periodic (moir\'{e}) potential forming in two-dimensional heterostructures (HSs). MXs can be exploited, e.g.e.g., for creating nanoscale-ordered quantum emitters and achieving or probing strongly correlated electronic phases at relatively high temperatures. Here, we studied the exciton properties of a WSe2_2/MoSe2_2 HS from TT=6 K to room temperature using time-resolved and continuous-wave micro-photoluminescence, also under magnetic field. The exciton dynamics and emission lineshape evolution with temperature show clear signatures that MXs de-trap from the moir\'{e} potential and turn into free interlayer excitons (IXs) at T≳T\gtrsim120 K. The MX-to-IX transition is also apparent from the exciton magnetic moment reversing its sign when the moir\'{e} potential is not capable to localise excitons at elevated temperatures. Concomitantly, the exciton formation and decay times reduce drastically. Thus, our findings establish the conditions for a truly confined nature of the exciton states in a moir\'{e} superlattice with increasing temperature

    Constrained and unconstrained rearrangement minimization problems related to the p-Laplace operator

    In this paper we consider an unconstrained and a constrained minimization problem related to the boundary value problem −∆pu = f in D, u = 0 on ∂D. In the unconstrained problem we minimize an energy functional relative to a rearrangement class, and prove existence of a unique solution. We also consider the case when D is a planar disk and show that the minimizer is radial and increasing. In the constrained problem we minimize the energy functional relative to the intersection of a rearrangement class with an affine subspace of codimension one in an appropriate function space. We briefly discuss our motivation for studying the constrained minimization problem
