Functional integral over velocities for a spinning particle with and without anomalous magnetic moment in a constant electromagnetic field

    Get PDF
The technique of functional integration over velocities is applied to the calculation of the propagator of a spinning particle with and without anomalous magnetic moment. A representation for the spin factor is obtained in this context for the particle in a constant electromagnetic field. As a by-product, we also obtain a Schwinger representation for the first case.Comment: latex, 19 page

Epitaxial Thin Films of the Giant-Dielectric-Constant Material CaCu_3Ti_4O_{12} Grown by Pulsed-laser Deposition

Pulsed-laser deposition has been used to grow epitaxial thin films of the giant-dielectric-constant material CaCu_3Ti_4O_{12} on LaAlO_3 and SrTiO_3 substrates with or without various conducting buffer layers. The latter include YBa_2Cu_3O_7, La_{1.85}Sr_{0.15}CuO_{4+\delta} and LaNiO_3. Above 100K - 150K the thin films have a temperature independent dielectric constant as do single crystals. The value of the dielectric constant is of the order of 1500 over a wide temperature region, potentially making it a good candidate for many applications. The frequency dependence of its dielectric properties below 100K - 150K indicates an activated relaxation process.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

Exact Diagonalisation of The XY-Hamiltonian of Open Linear Chains with Periodic Coupling Constants and Its Application to Dynamics of One-Dimensional Spin Systems

A new method of diagonalisation of the XY-Hamiltonian of inhomogeneous open linear chains with periodic (in space) changing Larmor frequencies and coupling constants is developed. As an example of application, multiple quantum dynamics of an inhomogeneous chain consisting of 1001 spins is investigated. Intensities of multiple quantum coherences are calculated for arbitrary inhomogeneous chains in the approximation of the next nearest interactions. {\it Key words:} linear spin chain, nearest--neighbour approximation, three--diagonal matrices, diagonalisation, fermions, multiple--quantum NMR, multiple--quantum coherence, intensities of multiple--quantum coherences. {\it PACS numbers:} 05.30.-d; 76.20.+qComment: 21 pages + 1 figure (to download separately via ps-format

2MASS J06164006-6407194: The First Outer Halo L Subdwarf

We present the serendipitous discovery of an L subdwarf, 2MASS J06164006-6407194, in a search of the Two Micron All Sky Survey for T dwarfs. Its spectrum exhibits features indicative of both a cool and metal poor atmosphere including a heavily pressured-broadened K I resonant doublet, Cs I and Rb I lines, molecular bands of CaH, TiO, CrH, FeH, and H2O, and enhanced collision induced absorption of H2. We assign 2MASS 0616-6407 a spectral type of sdL5 based on a comparison of its red optical spectrum to that of near solar-metallicity L dwarfs. Its high proper motion (mu =1.405+-0.008 arcsec yr-1), large radial velocity (Vrad = 454+-15 km s-1), estimated uvw velocities (94, -573, 125) km s-1 and Galactic orbit with an apogalacticon at ~29 kpc are indicative of membership in the outer halo making 2MASS 0616-6407 the first ultracool member of this population.Comment: Accepted for publication in Ap

Testing models with non-minimal Higgs sector through the decay t->q+WZ

    Get PDF
We study the contribution of charged Higgs boson to the rare decay of the top quark t->q+WZ (q=d,s,b) in models with Higgs sector that includes doublets and triplets. Higgs doublets are needed to couple charged Higgs with quarks, whereas the Higgs triplets are required to generate the non-standard vertex HWZ at tree-level. It is found that within a model that respect the custodial SU(2) symmetry and avoids flavour changing neutral currents by imposing discrete symmetries, the decay mode t->b+WZ, can reach a branching ratio of order 0.0178, whereas the decay modes t->(d,s)+WZ, can reach a similar branching ratio in models where flavour changing neutral currents are suppressed by flavour symmetries.Comment: Typeset using REVTEX and EPSF, 5 pag, 2 figure
