Recent Results from Decay-Angle Analyses of rho^0 Photoproduction at High Momentum Transfer from ZEUS
Recent results from decay-angle analyses of rho^0 photoproduction are
presented and discussed in the context of earlier measurements at lower energy

A lattice calculation of vector meson couplings to the vector and tensor currents using chirally improved fermions
We present a quenched lattice calculation of , the coupling of
vector mesons to the tensor current normalized by the vector meson decay
constant. The chirally improved lattice Dirac operator, which allows us to
reach small quark masses, is used. We put emphasis on analyzing the quark mass
dependence of and find only a rather weak dependence. Our
results at the and masses agree well with QCD sum rule
calculations and those from previous lattice studies.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, one sentence remove
Conditions for Successful Extended Inflation
We investigate, in a model-independent way, the conditions required to obtain
a satisfactory model of extended inflation in which inflation is brought to an
end by a first-order phase transition. The constraints are that the correct
present strength of the gravitational coupling is obtained, that the present
theory of gravity is satisfactorily close to general relativity, that the
perturbation spectra from inflation are compatible with large scale structure
observations and that the bubble spectrum produced at the phase transition
doesn't conflict with the observed level of microwave background anisotropies.
We demonstrate that these constraints can be summarized in terms of the
behaviour in the conformally related Einstein frame, and can be compactly
illustrated graphically. We confirm the failure of existing models including
the original extended inflation model, and construct models, albeit rather
contrived ones, which satisfy all existing constraints.Comment: 8 pages RevTeX file with one figure incorporated (uses RevTeX and

Vector Meson Photoproduction from the BFKL Equation II: Phenomenology
Diffractive vector meson photoproduction accompanied by proton dissociation
is studied for large momentum transfer. The process is described by the
non-forward BFKL equation which we use to compare to data collected at the HERA
collider.Comment: 39 pages, 29 figure
STATIONARY SOLUTIONS IN BRANS-DICKE STOCHASTIC INFLATIONARY COSMOLOGY
In Brans-Dicke theory the Universe becomes divided after inflation into many
exponentially large domains with different values of the effective
gravitational constant. Such a process can be described by diffusion equations
for the probability of finding a certain value of the inflaton and dilaton
fields in a physical volume of the Universe. For a typical chaotic inflation
potential, the solutions for the probability distribution never become
stationary but grow forever towards larger values of the fields. We show here
that a non-minimal conformal coupling of the inflaton to the curvature scalar,
as well as radiative corrections to the effective potential, may provide a
dynamical cutoff and generate stationary solutions. We also analyze the
possibility of large nonperturbative jumps of the fluctuating inflaton scalar
field, which was recently revealed in the context of the Einstein theory. We
find that in the Brans--Dicke theory the amplitude of such jumps is strongly
suppressed.Comment: 19 pages, LaTe
Cross-Correlation of the Cosmic Microwave Background with the 2MASS Galaxy Survey: Signatures of Dark Energy, Hot Gas, and Point Sources
We cross-correlate the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature
anisotropies observed by the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) with
the projected distribution of extended sources in the Two Micron All Sky Survey
(2MASS). By modelling the theoretical expectation for this signal, we extract
the signatures of dark energy (Integrated Sachs-Wolfe effect;ISW), hot gas
(thermal Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect;thermal SZ), and microwave point sources in
the cross-correlation. Our strongest signal is the thermal SZ, at the 3.1-3.7
\sigma level, which is consistent with the theoretical prediction based on
observations of X-ray clusters. We also see the ISW signal at the 2.5 \sigma
level, which is consistent with the expected value for the concordance LCDM
cosmology, and is an independent signature of the presence of dark energy in
the universe. Finally, we see the signature of microwave point sources at the
2.7 \sigma level.Comment: 35 pages (preprint format), 8 figures. In addition to minor revisions
based on referee's comments, after correcting for a bug in the code, the SZ
detection is consistent with the X-ray observations. Accepeted for

Cosmological Effects of Radion Oscillations
We show that the redshift of pressureless matter density due to the expansion
of the universe generically induces small oscillations in the stabilized radius
of extra dimensions (the radion field). The frequency of these oscillations is
proportional to the mass of the radion and can have interesting cosmological
consequences. For very low radion masses () these low frequency oscillations lead to oscillations in
the expansion rate of the universe. The occurrence of acceleration periods
could naturally lead to a resolution of the coincidence problem, without need
of dark energy. Even though this scenario for low radion mass is consistent
with several observational tests it has difficulty to meet fifth force
constraints. If viewed as an effective Brans-Dicke theory it predicts
( is the number of extra dimensions), while
experiments on scales larger than imply . By deriving the
generalized Newtonian potential corresponding to a massive toroidally compact
radion we demonstrate that Newtonian gravity is modified only on scales smaller
than . Thus, these constraints do not apply for
(high frequency oscillations) corresponding to scales less than the current
experiments (). Even though these high frequency oscillations can not
resolve the coincidence problem they provide a natural mechanism for dark
matter generation. This type of dark matter has many similarities with the
axion.Comment: Accepted in Phys. Rev. D. Clarifying comments added in the text and

Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies from Scaling Seeds: Global Defect Models
We investigate the global texture model of structure formation in cosmogonies
with non-zero cosmological constant for different values of the Hubble
parameter. We find that the absence of significant acoustic peaks and little
power on large scales are robust predictions of these models. However, from a
careful comparison with data we conclude that at present we cannot safely
reject the model on the grounds of present CMB data. Exclusion by means of
galaxy correlation data requires assumptions on biasing and statistics. New,
very stringent constraints come from peculiar velocities.
Investigating the large-N limit, we argue that our main conclusions apply to
all global O(N) models of structure formation.Comment: LaTeX file with RevTex, 27 pages, 23 eps figs., submitted to Phys.

Observation of a New J(PC)=1(+-) Isoscalar State in the Reaction Pi- Proton -> Omega Eta Neutron at 18 GeV/c
Results are presented on a partial wave analysis of the Omega Eta final state
produced in Pi- Proton interactions at 18 GeVc where Omega -> Pi+ Pi- Pi0, Pi0
-> 2 Gammas, and Eta -> 2 Gammas. We observe the previously unreported decay
mode Omega(1650) -> Omega Eta and a new 1(+-) meson state h1(1595) with a mass
M=1594(15)(+10)(-60) MeV/c^2 and a width Gamma=384(60)(+70)(-100) MeV/c^2. The
h1(1595) state exhibits resonant-like phase motion relative to the Omega(1650).Comment: Submitted to Physics Letters B Eight total pages including 11 figures
