Formalism for dilepton production via virtual photon bremsstrahlung in hadronic reactions
We derive a set of new formulas for various distributions in dilepton
production via virtual photon bremsstrahlung from pseudoscalar mesons and
unpolarized spin-one-half fermions. These formulas correspond to the leading
and sub-leading terms in the Low-Burnett-Kroll expansion for real photon
bremsstrahlung. The relation of our leading-term formulas to previous works is
also shown. Existing formulas are examined in the light of Lorentz covariance
and gauge invariance. Numerical comparison is made in a simple example, where
an "exact" formula and real photon data exist. The results reveal large
discrepancies among different bremsstrahlung formulas. Of all the leading-term
bremsstrahlung formulas, the one derived in this work agrees best with the
exact formula. The issues of M_T-scaling and event generators are also

Pion and Rho Structure Functions from Lattice QCD
We calculate the lower moments of the deep-inelastic structure functions of
the pion and the rho meson on the lattice. Of particular interest to us are the
spin-dependent structure functions of the rho. The calculations are done with
Wilson fermions and for three values of the quark mass, so that we can perform

Algae as nutritional and functional food sources: revisiting our understanding.
Global demand for macroalgal and microalgal foods is growing, and algae are increasingly being consumed for functional benefits beyond the traditional considerations of nutrition and health. There is substantial evidence for the health benefits of algal-derived food products, but there remain considerable challenges in quantifying these benefits, as well as possible adverse effects. First, there is a limited understanding of nutritional composition across algal species, geographical regions, and seasons, all of which can substantially affect their dietary value. The second issue is quantifying which fractions of algal foods are bioavailable to humans, and which factors influence how food constituents are released, ranging from food preparation through genetic differentiation in the gut microbiome. Third is understanding how algal nutritional and functional constituents interact in human metabolism. Superimposed considerations are the effects of harvesting, storage, and food processing techniques that can dramatically influence the potential nutritive value of algal-derived foods. We highlight this rapidly advancing area of algal science with a particular focus on the key research required to assess better the health benefits of an alga or algal product. Intermediate mass excess of dilepton production in heavy ion collisions at BEVALAC energies
Dielectron mass spectra are examined for various nuclear reactions recently
measured by the DLS collaboration. A detailed description is given of all
dilepton channels included in the transport model UrQMD 1.0, i.e. Dalitz decays
of mesons and of the resonance, direct
decays of vector mesons and bremsstrahlung. The microscopic calculations
reproduce data for light systems fairly well, but tend to underestimate the
data in at high energies and in at low energies. These conventional
sources, however, cannot explain the recently reported enhancement for
nucleus-nucleus collisions in the mass region 0.15 GeV<<0.6 GeV. Chiral
scaling and meson broadening in the medium are investigated as a
source of this mass excess. They also cannot explain the recent DLS data.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures, references update
âDo i care?â young adults' recalled experiences of early adolescent overweight and obesity: a qualitative study
<p>Objective:Â Individual behaviour change to reduce obesity requires awareness of, and concern about, weight. This paper therefore describes how young adults, known to have been overweight or obese during early adolescence, recalled early adolescent weight-related awareness and concerns. Associations between recalled concerns and weight-, health- and peer-related survey responses collected during adolescence are also examined.</p>
<p>Design:Â Qualitative semi-structured interviews with young adults; data compared with responses to self-report questionnaires obtained in adolescence.</p>
<p>Participants:Â A total of 35 participants, purposively sub-sampled at age 24 from a longitudinal study of a school year cohort, previously surveyed at ages 11, 13 and 15. Physical measures during previous surveys allowed identification of participants with a body mass index (BMI) indicative of overweight or obesity (based on British 1990 growth reference) during early adolescence. Overall, 26 had been obese, of whom 11 had BMI99.6th centile, whereas 9 had been overweight (BMI=95thâ97.9th centile).</p>
<p>Measures:Â Qualitative interview responses describing teenage life, with prompts for school-, social- and health-related concerns. Early adolescent self-report questionnaire data on weight-worries, self-esteem, friends and victimisation (closed questions).</p>
<p>Results:Â Most, but not all recalled having been aware of their overweight. None referred to themselves as having been obese. None recalled weight-related health worries. Recollection of early adolescent obesity varied from major concerns impacting on much of an individual's life to almost no concern, with little relation to actual severity of overweight. Recalled concerns were not clearly patterned by gender, but young adult males recalling concerns had previously reported more worries about weight, lower self-esteem, fewer friends and more victimisation in early adolescence; no such pattern was seen among females.
Conclusion:Â The popular image of the unhappy overweight teenager was not borne out. Many obese adolescents, although well aware of their overweight recalled neither major dissatisfaction nor concern. Weight-reduction behaviours are unlikely in such circumstances.</p>
Polarized light-flavor antiquarks from Drell-Yan processes of h+\vec{N}\to\vec{l^{+-}} + l^{-+} + X
We propose a formula to determine the first moment of difference between the
polarized - and -quarks in the nucleon, {\it i.e.} from the Drell-Yan processes in collisions of unpolarized
hadrons with longitudinally polarized nucleons by measuring outgoing lepton
helicities. As coefficients in the differential cross section depend on the
- and -quark numbers in the unpolarized hadron beam, the difference
can be independently tested by changing the hadron
beam. Moreover, a formula for estimating the -factor in Drell-Yan processes

Worldline Approach to Forward and Fixed Angle fermion-fermion Scattering in Yang-Mills Theories at High Energies
Worldline techniques are employed to study the general behaviour of the
fermion-fermion collision amplitude at very high energies in a non-abelian
gauge field theory for the forward and fixed angle scattering cases. A central
objective of this work is to demonstrate the simplicity by which the worldline
methodology isolates that sector of the full theory which carries the soft
physics, relevant to each process. Anomalous dimensions pertaining to a given
soft sector are identified and subseuently used to facilitate the
renormalization group running of the respective four point functions. Gluon
reggeization is achieved for forward, while Sudakov suppression is established
for fixed angle scattering.Comment: 28 pages, 10 figures in three file
D0-D4 brane tachyon condensation to a BPS state and its excitation spectrum in noncommutative super Yang-Mills theory
We investigate the D0-D4-brane system for different B-field backgrounds
including the small instanton singularity in noncommutative SYM theory. We
discuss the excitation spectrum of the unstable state as well as for the BPS
D0-D4 bound state. We compute the tachyon potential which reproduces the
complete mass defect. The relevant degrees of freedom are the massless (4,4)
strings. Both results are in contrast with existing string field theory
calculations. The excitation spectrum of the small instanton is found to be
equal to the excitation spectrum of the fluxon solution on R^2_theta x R which
we trace back to T-duality. For the effective theory of the (0,0) string
excitations we obtain a BFSS matrix model. The number of states in the
instanton background changes significantly when the B-field becomes self-dual.
This leads us to the proposal of the existence of a phase transition or cross

Four Dimensional CFT Models with Rational Correlation Functions
Recently established rationality of correlation functions in a globally
conformal invariant quantum field theory satisfying Wightman axioms is used to
construct a family of soluble models in 4-dimensional Minkowski space-time. We
consider in detail a model of a neutral scalar field of dimension 2. It
depends on a positive real parameter c, an analogue of the Virasoro central
charge, and admits for all (finite) c an infinite number of conserved symmetric
tensor currents. The operator product algebra of is shown to coincide
with a simpler one, generated by a bilocal scalar field of
dimension (1,1). The modes of V together with the unit operator span an
infinite dimensional Lie algebra whose vacuum (i.e. zero energy lowest
weight) representations only depend on the central charge c. Wightman
positivity (i.e. unitarity of the representations of ) is proven to be

Gauge (non-)invariant Green functions of Dirac fermions coupled to gauge fields
We develop a unified approach to both infrared and ultraviolet asymptotics of
the fermion Green functions in the condensed matter systems that allow for an
effective description in the framework of the Quantum Electrodynamics. By
applying a path integral representation to the previously suggested form of the
physical electron propagator we demonstrate that in the massless case this
gauge invariant function features a "stronger-than-a-pole" branch-cut
singularity instead of the conjectured Luttinger-like behavior. The obtained
results alert one to the possibility that construction of physically relevant
amplitudes in the effective gauge theories might prove more complex than
previously thought
