The objective of this study was to evaluate the
incorporation of the sub product mucilage of coffee
in the fabrication of nutritional blocks and its impact
on fabrication variables, chemical composition
and animal preference. Nutritional blocks with
different concentrations of coffee mucilage (0,
25, 50, 75 and 100 %) were used in place of
molasses and combined with base ingredients
corn, cement, urea, minerals and sulfur. The
following variables were evaluated: setting time,
consistency, ease of mixing, and hardness. The
chemical composition was found by analyzing
raw protein, insoluble and soluble protein, fractions
of neutral detergent fiber, organic matter and ash.
For the test of animal preference, a cafeteria test
was used with the following measurements:
number of visits, number of licks and bites, effective
time of licking or biting, and consumption of each
block by each animal. The field measurements
were used to calculate the following variables:
licking/biting speed, consumption speed, size of
lick or bite, consumption rate and preference
index. Data on quality and preference were
submitted to an analysis of variance through the
GLM procedure of the SAS statistical package
(SAS, 1994). Quality variables were analyzed
using a randomized experimental design with
seven treatments and 10 repetitions per treatment.
For the preference test, the experiment had a data
collection period of four days, with two evaluation
periods. A Latin square experimental design was
used. In both cases, averages were evaluated
using the Tukey test (p<0.05). Results indicate that
it is feasible to incorporate coffee mucilage in
nutritional blocks as an up to 75 % substitution for
molasses from sugar cane. No alterations are thus
produced in the chemical composition of the
nutritional blocks and animal preference is greater
than with molasses.
y soluble, fibra detergente neutra, materia orgáni-
Mexican consensus on dyspepsia
Since the publication of the 2007 dyspepsia guidelines of the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología, there have been significant advances in the knowledge of this disease. A systematic search of the literature in PubMed (01/2007 to 06/2016) was carried out to review and update the 2007 guidelines and to provide new evidence-based recommendations. All high-quality articles in Spanish and English were included. Statements were formulated and voted upon using the Delphi method. The level of evidence and strength of recommendation of each statement were established according to the GRADE system. Thirty-one statements were formulated, voted upon, and graded. New definition, classification, epidemiology, and pathophysiology data were provided and include the following information: Endoscopy should be carried out in cases of uninvestigated dyspepsia when there are alarm symptoms or no response to treatment. Gastric and duodenal biopsies can confirm Helicobacter pylori infection and rule out celiac disease, respectively. Establishing a strong doctor-patient relationship, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes, are useful initial measures. H2-blockers, proton-pump inhibitors, prokinetics, and antidepressants are effective pharmacologic therapies. H. pylori eradication may be effective in a subgroup of patients. There is no evidence that complementary and alternative therapies are beneficial, with the exception of Iberogast and rikkunshito, nor is there evidence on the usefulness of prebiotics, probiotics, or psychologic therapies. The new consensus statements on dyspepsia provide guidelines based on up-to-date evidence. A discussion, level of evidence, and strength of recommendation are presented for each statement. Structural, energetic and magnetic properties of small Ti n (n=2–13) clusters: a density functional study
The structural, energetic, and magnetic properties of Ti n clusters (n=2 to 13 atoms) have been studied using Density Functional Theory (DFT), applying the pseudopotential LCAO method and the generalized gradient approximation for the exchange-correlation functional. The binding energy and the dissociation energy were calculated using the PBE and BLYP approximations for the exchange-correlation potential, in order to evaluate the performance of this functionals in predicting the energetic properties of small Ti clusters. The experimentally observed trend in the dissociation energy of Ti n as a function of the cluster size is reproduced by both PBE and BLYP calculations. The effects of structural distortion on the magnetism of clusters were studied comparing the ground state structure against non-distorted clusters. It was found that the structural distortion has no effect on the total magnetic moment. For all studied clusters using the BLYP functional, with exception of Ti 6 and Ti 7, magnetism is predicted.
