Breakdown of the Fermi-liquid regime in the 2D Hubbard model from a two-loop field-theoretical renormalization group approach
We analyze the particle-hole symmetric two-dimensional Hubbard model on a
square lattice starting from weak-to-moderate couplings by means of the
field-theoretical renormalization group (RG) approach up to two-loop order.
This method is essential in order to evaluate the effect of the
momentum-resolved anomalous dimension which arises in the
normal phase of this model on the corresponding low-energy single-particle
excitations. As a result, we find important indications pointing to the
existence of a non-Fermi liquid (NFL) regime at temperature displaying
a truncated Fermi surface (FS) for a doping range exactly in between the
well-known antiferromagnetic insulating and the -wave singlet
superconducting phases. This NFL evolves as a function of doping into a
correlated metal with a large FS before the -wave pairing
susceptibility finally produces the dominant instability in the low-energy
limit.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figures; published in Phys. Rev.
Welfare guarantees for proportional allocations
According to the proportional allocation mechanism from the network
optimization literature, users compete for a divisible resource -- such as
bandwidth -- by submitting bids. The mechanism allocates to each user a
fraction of the resource that is proportional to her bid and collects an amount
equal to her bid as payment. Since users act as utility-maximizers, this
naturally defines a proportional allocation game. Recently, Syrgkanis and
Tardos (STOC 2013) quantified the inefficiency of equilibria in this game with
respect to the social welfare and presented a lower bound of 26.8% on the price
of anarchy over coarse-correlated and Bayes-Nash equilibria in the full and
incomplete information settings, respectively. In this paper, we improve this
bound to 50% over both equilibrium concepts. Our analysis is simpler and,
furthermore, we argue that it cannot be improved by arguments that do not take
the equilibrium structure into account. We also extend it to settings with
budget constraints where we show the first constant bound (between 36% and 50%)
on the price of anarchy of the corresponding game with respect to an effective
welfare benchmark that takes budgets into account.Comment: 15 page

High magnetic field thermal-expansion and elastic properties of CeRhIn
We report high magnetic field thermal-expansion and magnetostriction results
on CeRhIn single crystals. Several transitions, both first and second
order, are observed when the field is applied perpendicular to the
crystallographic c-axis. The magnetic field dependence of the thermal-expansion
coefficient above 15 K, where the magnetic correlations are negligible, can be
explained supposing an almost pure ground state doublet, in
apparent contradiction with neutron scattering experiments. Although the
spin-lattice interaction is relevant in this compound, the effect of the
magnetic correlations on the elastic properties is relatively weak, as revealed
by resonant ultrasound spectroscopy experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 6 figure
Spectral singularities in PT-symmetric periodic finite-gap systems
The origin of spectral singularities in finite-gap singly periodic
PT-symmetric quantum systems is investigated. We show that they emerge from a
limit of band-edge states in a doubly periodic finite gap system when the
imaginary period tends to infinity. In this limit, the energy gaps are
contracted and disappear, every pair of band states of the same periodicity at
the edges of a gap coalesces and transforms into a singlet state in the
continuum. As a result, these spectral singularities turn out to be analogous
to those in the non-periodic systems, where they appear as zero-width
resonances. Under the change of topology from a non-compact into a compact one,
spectral singularities in the class of periodic systems we study are
transformed into exceptional points. The specific degeneration related to the
presence of finite number of spectral singularities and exceptional points is
shown to be coherently reflected by a hidden, bosonized nonlinear
supersymmetry.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures; a difference between spectral singularities and

Twist Deformations of the Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics
The N-extended Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics is deformed via an abelian
twist which preserves the super-Hopf algebra structure of its Universal
Enveloping Superalgebra. Two constructions are possible. For even N one can
identify the 1D N-extended superalgebra with the fermionic Heisenberg algebra.
Alternatively, supersymmetry generators can be realized as operators belonging
to the Universal Enveloping Superalgebra of one bosonic and several fermionic
oscillators. The deformed system is described in terms of twisted operators
satisfying twist-deformed (anti)commutators. The main differences between an
abelian twist defined in terms of fermionic operators and an abelian twist
defined in terms of bosonic operators are discussed.Comment: 18 pages; two references adde
AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF THE CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT: APPLICATION OF TURBULENCE PROMOTERS
This work presents an experimental study addressing the effects of turbulence promoters on heat transfer rate at circular cylinder in external cross flow. Within this framework, the work focuses on assessing the effects of three kind of turbulence promoters (with circular, square and hexagonal cross sections) on convective heat transfer enhancement. The distance from turbulence promoters to the circular cylinder (50, 100 and 150mm upstream), as well as the free stream velocity inside the wind tunnel (Reynolds number) were the parameters investigated. The validation of the experimental methodology was performed by comparing the present results with empiric correlations available in the literature. The main results indicate that the convective heat transfer coefficient was enhanced when using turbulence promoters. The highest heat transfer enhancement obtained was around 25% correponding to the case of square turbulence promoter placed closely (50mm) to the circular cylinder. Finally, it is worth mentioning that all the experimental results for the convective coefficient were condensed in a new empirical correlation with good accuracy
