Open-String Actions and Noncommutativity Beyond the Large-B Limit
In the limit of large, constant B-field (the ``Seiberg-Witten limit''), the
derivative expansion for open-superstring effective actions is naturally
expressed in terms of the symmetric products *n. Here, we investigate
corrections around the large-B limit, for Chern-Simons couplings on the brane
and to quadratic order in gauge fields. We perform a boundary-state computation
in the commutative theory, and compare it with the corresponding computation on
the noncommutative side. These results are then used to examine the possible
role of Wilson lines beyond the Seiberg-Witten limit. To quadratic order in
fields, the entire tree-level amplitude is described by a metric-dependent
deformation of the *2 product, which can be interpreted in terms of a deformed
(non-associative) version of the Moyal * product.Comment: 30 pages, harvma
Holography from Conformal Field Theory
The locality of bulk physics at distances below the AdS length is one of the
remarkable aspects of AdS/CFT duality, and one of the least tested. It requires
that the AdS radius be large compared to the Planck length and the string
length. In the CFT this implies a large-N expansion and a gap in the spectum of
anomalous dimensions. We conjecture that the implication also runs in the other
direction, so that any CFT with a planar expansion and a large gap has a local
bulk dual. For an abstract CFT we formulate the consistency conditions, most
notably crossing symmetry, and show that the conjecture is true in a broad
range of CFT's, to first nontrivial order in 1/N^2: any CFT with a gap and a
planar expansion is generated via the AdS/CFT dictionary from a local bulk
interaction. We establish this result by a counting argument on each side, and

On Vector Bundles of Finite Order
We study growth of holomorphic vector bundles E over smooth affine manifolds.
We define Finsler metrics of finite order on E by estimates on the holomorphic
bisectional curvature. These estimates are very similar to the ones used by
Griffiths and Cornalba to define Hermitian metrics of finite order. We then
generalize the Vanishing Theorem of Griffiths and Cornalba to the Finsler
context. We develop a value distribution theory for holomorphic maps from the
projectivization of E to projective space. We show that the projectivization of
E can be immersed into a projective space of sufficiently large dimension via a

AdS black disk model for small-x DIS
Using the approximate conformal invariance of QCD at high energies we
consider a simple AdS black disk model to describe saturation in DIS. Deep
inside saturation the structure functions have the same power law scaling, F_T
~ F_L ~ 1/x^w, where w is related to the expansion rate of the black disk with
energy. Furthermore, the ratio F_L /F_T is given by the universal value
(1+w)/(3+w), independently of the target. For virtual photon-photon scattering
at high energies we obtain explicit expressions and ratios for the total cross
sections of transverse and longitudinal photons in terms of the single

On higher derivative corrections to Wess-Zumino and Tachyonic actions in type II super string theory
We evaluate in detail the string scattering amplitude to compute different
interactions of two massless scalars, one tachyon and one closed string
Ramond-Ramond field in type II super string theory. In particular we find two
scalar field and two tachyon couplings to all orders of up to
on-shell ambiguity. We then obtain the momentum expansion of this amplitude and
apply this infinite number of couplings to actually check that the infinite
number of tachyon poles of S-matrix element of this amplitude for the
case (where is the spatial dimension of a D-brane and is the rank
of a Ramond-Ramond field strength) to all orders of is precisely
equal to the infinite number of tachyon poles of the field theory. In addition
to confirming the couplings of closed string Ramond-Ramond field to the
world-volume gauge field and scalar fields including commutators, we also
propose an extension of the Wess-Zumino action which naturally reproduces these
new couplings in field theory such that they could be confirmed with direct
S-matrix computations. Finally we show that the infinite number of massless
poles and contact terms of this amplitude for the case can be
reproduced by Chern-Simons, higher derivative corrections of the Wess-Zumino

Relating branes and matrices
We construct a general map between a Dp-brane with magnetic flux and a matrix
configuration of D0-branes, by showing how one can rewrite the boundary state
of the Dp-brane in terms of its D0-brane constituents. This map gives a simple
prescription for constructing the matrices of fuzzy spaces corresponding to
branes of arbitrary shape and topology. Since we explicitly identify the
D0-brane degrees of freedom on the brane, we also derive the D0-brane charge of
the brane in a very direct way including the A-genus term. As a check on our
formalism, we use our map to derive the abelian-Born-Infeld equations of motion
from the action of the D0-brane matrices.Comment: 28 pages, Late
On the Absence of Cross-Confinement for Dynamically Generated Multi-Chern-Simons Theories
We show that when the induced parity breaking part of the effective action
for the low-momentum region of U(1) x ... x U(1) Maxwell gauge field theory
with massive fermions in 3 dimensions is coupled to a \phi^4 scalar field
theory, it is not possible to eliminate the screening of the long-range Coulomb
interactions and get external charges confined in the broken Higgs phase. This

It is well known that spherical D-branes are nucleated in the presence of an
external RR electric field. Using the description of D-branes as solitons of
the tachyon field on non-BPS D-branes, we show that the brane nucleation
process can be seen as the decay of the tachyon false vacuum. This process can
describe the decay of flux-branes in string theory or the decay of quintessence

Immunogenicity and Immunosensitivity of Urethane-induced Murine Lung Adenomata, in Relation to the Immunological Impairment of the Primary Tumour Host
The depression of the immunological status of BALB/c mice treated during infancy with two different doses of urethane, alone or combined with cortisone, was evaluated by counting the number of plaque forming cells at 30 or 50 days of age. The incidence of lung adenomatous nodules was directly related to the degree of immunological impairment at 50 days of age. Twenty-seven lung adenomata were tested in an in vitro system involving spleen cells immune against the same single tumour used as target cell. Eighty-six per cent of tumours in the most immunodepressed group of mice were positive compared with 20-40% in the less immunodepressed groups. Syngeneic cross-reaction tests showed that non-immunogenic tumours were immunosensitive since 66% positive tests were obtained when target cells belonging to the less immunodepressed groups were tested with spleen cells of mice immunized with immunogenic adenomata
