Caracterização de amido de pinhão modificado com soluções de ácido clorídrico 0,1 e 0,2M em presença de etanol e metanol.
O amido de pinhão possui propriedades interessantes, porém pouco foi estudado até o momento. Proveniente do Sul do Brasil, a semente da Araucária angustifolia serve de alimento para diversas culturas da região. Os amidos nativos de diversas fontes botânicas possuem características de interesse industrial, porém algumas só são adquiridas ou melhoradas mediante a aplicação de agentes que modifiquem as estruturas originais dos grânulos, como ácidos e oxidantes. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo estudar propriedades do amido de pinhão nativo e este modificado, utilizando ácido clorídrico 0,1M e 0,2M, em meio etanólico e metanólico. Pelas curvas DSC foi possível determinar as temperaturas ?onset?, de pico e de conclusão do processo de gelatinização das amostras, além de se determinar a entalpia envolvida no processo. Pelas imagens NC-AFM pode-se medir o tamanho dos grânulos dos amidos e a rugosidade dos mesmos antes e após as modificações. Por meio da técnica TG-DTG, foi possível observar um perfil de perda de massa semelhante para todas as amostras, com 3 etapas definidas, sendo a 1ª referente à desidratação da amostra e a 2ª e 3ª referente à decomposição da matéria orgânica à cinzas. Através da análise de propriedade de pasta (RVA) se observou o perfil reológico das amostras, podendo determinar temperatura de pico, viscosidade final e retrogradação.CBRATEC

As sementes da Araucaria angustifolia, no Brasil conhecidas como ?pinhão? e são uma boa uma fonte de carboidratos complexos (100 gramas de semente contêm 36% de amido). Nesse estudo três amostras de pinhão, obtidas de diferentes regiões foram estudadas. The legacy of redlining in the effect of foreclosures on Detroit residents’ self-rated health
Historical practices, such as housing discrimination in Detroit, have been shown to have lasting impacts on communities. Perhaps the most explicit example is the practice of redlining in the 1930s, whereby lenders outlined financially undesirable neighborhoods, populated by minority families, on maps and prevented residents from moving to better resourced neighborhoods. Awareness of historical housing discrimination may improve research assessing the impacts of current neighborhood characteristics on health. Using the Detroit Neighborhood Health Study (DNHS), we assessed the association between two-year changes in home foreclosure rates following the 2007–2008 Great Recession, and residents’ five-year self-rated health trajectories (2008–2013); and estimated the confounding bias introduced by ignoring historical redlining practices in the city. We used both ecological and multilevel models to make inference about person- and community-level processes. In a neighborhood-level linear regression adjusted for confounders (including percent redlined); a 10%-point slower foreclosure rate recovery was associated with an increase in prevalence of poor self-rated health of 0.31 (95% CI:−0.02 to 0.64). At the individual level, it was associated with a within-person increase in probability of poor health of 0.45 (95% CI:0.15–0.72). Removing redlining from the model biased the estimated effect upward to 0.38 (95% CI:0.07–0.69) and 0.56 (95% CI:0.21–0.84) in the neighborhood and individual-level models, respectively. Stratum-specific foreclosure recovery effects indicate stronger influence in neighborhoods with a greater proportion of residents identifying as white and a greater degree of historic redlining. These findings support earlier theory suggesting a historical influence of structural discrimination on the association between current neighborhood characteristics and health, and suggests that historical redlining specifically may increase vulnerability to contemporary neighborhood foreclosures. Community interventions should consider historical discrimination in conjunction with current place-based indicators to more equitably improve population health
Thermal tool in the evaluation of the "pinhão'' (seed of Araucaria angustifolia) starch aimed agroindustrial process.
''Pinhão'' is an important source of food for inhabitants in the subtropical region of South America. Gelatinization temperatures for ''pinhão'' are smaller than for corn and cassava starches, bringing advantages in industrial processes. The ''pinhão'' starches of the 4 different provenances were subjected to dilutions of 1:4, 1:5 e 1:6, in water. The starches were evaluated using DSC to determine gelatinization characteristics of them. Connecting in Real-time Power System Labs: An Italian Test-case
Sharing of hardware and software facilities together with knowledge and expertise among laboratories is a key point in research. In the power systems field this is possible even remotely by coupling real-time simulators located in different laboratories. In this paper an experimental test-bed is described. It consists of the remote interconnection of the realtime simulators, located at Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Bari respectively, in order to perform Remote Power Hardware-in-the-Loop experiments. The possibilities and limitations of this type of co-simulation are described and a case study is presented
Caracterização térmica de amido e bagaço de Amaranthus cruentus.
O amaranto é um pseudocereal, que produz pequenas sementes de cor amarelo-avermelhado. Foram avaliados o amido e o bagaço de amaranto obtidos no processo de extração. Nas curvas TG/DTG identificouse que o bagaço não apresentou período de estabilidade térmica, justificado pela composição mais complexa. Com o DSC visualizou-se a ocorrência de gelatinização do bagaço, com To e Tp superiores ao amido, porém, com menor entalpia, apontando um teor residual de amido.Edição dos Anais do 7º Simpósio de Análise Térmica, 2015, Bauru
The Mediterranean diet and incidence of hypertension: the Seguimiento Universidad de Navarra (SUN) Study
The Mediterranean diet is receiving increasing attention in cardiovascular epidemiology. The association of
adherence to the Mediterranean diet with the incidence of hypertension was evaluated among 9,408 men and
women enrolled in a dynamic Spanish prospective cohort study during 1999–2005. Dietary intake was assessed at
baseline with a validated semiquantitative food frequency questionnaire, and a 9-point Mediterranean diet score
was constructed. During a median follow-up period of 4.2 years (range, 1.9–7.9), 501 incident cases of hypertension
were identified. After adjustment for major hypertension risk factors and nutritional covariates, adherence to
the Mediterranean diet was not associated with hypertension (the hazard ratio was 1.10 (95% confidence interval
(CI): 0.81, 1.41) for moderate adherence and 1.12 (95% CI: 0.79, 1.60) for high adherence). However, it was
associated with reduced changes in mean levels of systolic blood pressure (moderate adherence, 2.4 mm Hg
(95% CI: 4.0, 0.8); high adherence, 3.1 mm Hg (95% CI: 5.4, 0.8)) and diastolic blood pressure (moderate
adherence, 1.3 mm Hg (95% CI: 2.5, 0.1); high adherence, 1.9 mm Hg (95% CI: 3.6, 0.1)) after 6 years of
follow-up. These results suggest that adhering to a Mediterranean-type diet could contribute to the prevention of
age-related changes in blood pressure
Effect of treatment with hcl/alcoholic in the modification of corn starch.
Corn is the cereal most produced in the world. Corn starches were modified by HCl 0.1 mol L-1 in alcoholic and aqueous solutions. Three mass losses can be observed in the degradation process using TG-DTG curve. The native and treated starches samples don't show differences in the stability region. With DSC curves were observed lower values of the ΔH of gelatinization of the modified starch by HCl in the alcoholic solutions. Aspirin, non-aspirin analgesics and the risk of hypertension in the SUN cohort.
The use of aspirin and non-aspirin analgesics has been associated with changes in blood pressure. The aim of this study was to investigate prospectively the association between the regular use of aspirin and non-aspirin analgesics and the incidence of hypertension.
METHODS:
The SUN project is an ongoing, continuously expanding, prospective cohort of Spanish university graduates initially free of hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer; 9986 (mean age 36 years) were recruited during 1999-2005 and followed up for a mean of 51 months. Regular aspirin and non-aspirin analgesic use and the presence of other risk factors for hypertension were assessed by questionnaire at baseline, and the incidence of hypertension was assessed using biennial follow-up questionnaires.
RESULTS:
In total, 543 new cases of hypertension were identified during follow-up. Regular aspirin use (i.e. 2 or more days/week) was associated with a higher risk of hypertension (hazard ratio=1.45; 95% confidence interval, 1.02-2.04) after adjustment for various confounding factors. Regular use of non-aspirin analgesic drugs was also associated with a higher risk of hypertension (hazard ratio=1.69; 95% confidence interval, 1.28-2.23).
CONCLUSIONS:
The regular use of aspirin and non-aspirin analgesics were both associated with an increased risk of developing hypertension, independently of other risk factors
Consumo de alcohol e incidencia de hipertensión en una cohorte mediterránea: el estudio SUN
Introduction and objectives. To assess prospectively
the association between alcohol consumption, including
alcoholic beverage preference and days of consumption
per week, and the risk of hypertension in a Mediterranean
cohort.
Methods. We prospectively followed 9,963 Spanish men
and women initially without hypertension. Self-reported
and validated data on diet and hypertension diagnoses
were collected.
Results. During follow-up (median [interquartile range],
4.2 [2.5-6.1] years), 554 incident cases of hypertension
were identified over a total of 43,562 person-years. The
hazard ratio for hypertension among those who consumed
alcohol on ≥5 days per week was 1.28 (95% confidence
interval, 0.97-1.7) compared to abstainers. Among those
who drank alcohol ≥5 days per week, the hazard ratio for
hypertension associated with consuming ≥1 drink per day
was 1.45 (95% confidence interval, 1.06-2) compared
with abstainers. The consumption of beer or spirits,
but not wine, was associated with an increased risk of
hypertension. The hazard ratio associated with consuming
>0.5 drinks of beer or spirits per day was 1.53 (95%
confidence interval, 1.18-1.99) compared with abstainers.
In contrast, there was a nonsignificant inverse association
between red wine intake and the risk of hypertension.
Conclusions. In this Mediterranean population,
the consumption of beer or spirits, but not wine, was
associated with a higher risk of developing hypertension.
However, the weekly pattern of alcohol consumption did
not have a significant impact on the risk of hypertension
