    Forcée, dirigée, volontaire... la migration a toujours été au coeur des processus adaptatifs qui ont forgé l'actuelle société antillaise, soumise à rude épreuve au cours des dernières décennies : mutation statutaire, explosion démographique et exutoire migratoire massif, révolution des transports aériens et émergence d'une société "bipolaire", passage de l'économie de plantation à l'économie de transferts...Ainsi la migration, vecteur de tous ces changements et moyen d'ajustement entre espaces économiques hiérarchisés, s'articule avec de nouvelles normes de mobilité que la seule observation des phénomènes démographiques et des mouvements de population ne suffit plus à appréhender. Par son approche multidisciplinaire, cet ouvrage constitue un essai scientifique de "migratologie", qui appréhende la dimension migratoire des Antilles comme un fait de société, au travers des processus résultant des facteurs spatio-temporels caraïbéens (première partie), des déterminants institutionnels et économiques (deuxième partie), et de la dynamique des courants migratoires (troisième partie).     Mapping awareness of breast and cervical cancer risk factors, symptoms and lay beliefs in Uganda and South Africa

We measured breast and cervical cancer symptom and risk factor awareness and lay beliefs in Uganda and South Africa (SA). Methods: Between August and December 2018 we conducted a cross-sectional survey of women ≥18 years in one urban and one rural site per country. Households were selected using systematic random sampling, then one woman per household randomly selected to participate. Data were collected by interviewers using electronic tablets customised with the locally validated African Women Awareness of Cancer (AWACAN) tool. This has unprompted questions (testing recall) followed by prompted questions (testing recognition) on risk factor, symptom awareness and lay beliefs for breast and cervical cancer. Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to compare the association between socio-demographic variables and outcomes. Poisson regression with robust variance was conducted to identify independent socio-demographic predictors. Results: Of the 1758 women interviewed, 90.8% had heard of breast and 89.4% of cervical cancer. 8.7% recalled at least one breast risk factor and 38.1% recalled at least one cervical cancer risk factor. 78.0% and 57.7% recalled at least one breast/cervical cancer symptom respectively. Recognition of risk factors and symptoms was higher than recall. Many women were unaware that HPV, HIV, and not being screened were cervical cancer risk factors (23.7%, 46.8%, 26.5% respectively). In SA, urban compared to rural women had significantly higher symptom and risk factor awareness for both cancers. In Uganda married women/living with a partner had higher awareness of breast cancer risk factors and cervical cancer symptoms compared to women not living with a partner. Women mentioned several lay beliefs (e.g. putting money in their bra as a breast cancer risk factor). Conclusion: We identified gaps in breast and cervical cancer symptom and risk factor awareness. Our results provide direction for locally targeted cancer awareness intervention programs and serve as a baseline measure against which to evaluate interventions in SSA

    Anisotropic Superparamagnetism of Monodispersive Cobalt-Platinum Nanocrystals

    Based on the high-temperature organometallic route (Sun et al. Science 287, 1989 (2000)), we have synthesized powders containing CoPt_3 single crystals with mean diameters of 3.3(2) nm and 6.0(2) nm and small log-normal widths sigma=0.15(1). In the entire temperature range from 5 K to 400 K, the zero-field cooled susceptibility chi(T) displays significant deviations from ideal superparamagnetism. Approaching the Curie temperature of 450(10) K, the deviations arise from the (mean-field) type reduction of the ferromagnetic moments, while below the blocking temperature T_b, chi(T) is suppressed by the presence of energy barriers, the distributions of which scale with the particle volumes obtained from transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This indication for volume anisotropy is supported by scaling analyses of the shape of the magnetic absorption chi''(T,omega) which reveal distribution functions for the barriers being also consistent with the volume distributions observed by TEM. Above 200 K, the magnetization isotherms M(H,T) display Langevin behavior providing 2.5(1) mu_B per CoPt_3 in agreement with reports on bulk and thin film CoPt_3. The non-Langevin shape of the magnetization curves at lower temperatures is for the first time interpreted as anisotropic superparamagnetism by taking into account an anisotropy energy of the nanoparticles E_A(T). Using the magnitude and temperature variation of E_A(T), the mean energy barriers and 'unphysical' small switching times of the particles obtained from the analyses of chi''(T,omega) are explained. Below T_b hysteresis loops appear and are quantitatively described by a blocking model, which also ignores particle interactions, but takes the size distributions from TEM and the conventional field dependence of E_A into account.Comment: 12 pages with 10 figures and 1 table.     Academic team formation as evolving hypergraphs

    This paper quantitatively explores the social and socio-semantic patterns of constitution of academic collaboration teams. To this end, we broadly underline two critical features of social networks of knowledge-based collaboration: first, they essentially consist of group-level interactions which call for team-centered approaches. Formally, this induces the use of hypergraphs and n-adic interactions, rather than traditional dyadic frameworks of interaction such as graphs, binding only pairs of agents. Second, we advocate the joint consideration of structural and semantic features, as collaborations are allegedly constrained by both of them. Considering these provisions, we propose a framework which principally enables us to empirically test a series of hypotheses related to academic team formation patterns. In particular, we exhibit and characterize the influence of an implicit group structure driving recurrent team formation processes. On the whole, innovative production does not appear to be correlated with more original teams, while a polarization appears between groups composed of experts only or non-experts only, altogether corresponding to collectives with a high rate of repeated interactions
