Former des citoyens, former des lecteurs

Dans cet article, nous proposons d’aborder les relations entre fiction et démocratie sous l’angle de l’éducation à la lecture, en introduisant à l’ouvrage de Louise Rosenblatt, publié en 1938, Literature as Exploration. Nous tenterons de montrer que Rosenblatt élabore une théorie de la lecture qui, d’une part, est fondée sur l’observation de lectures concrètes et, d’autre part, est orientée vers la formation de lecteurs capables de prendre leur place dans la vie démocratique. L’ambition qui guide l’enseignant en littérature est, de ce fait, éminemment politique. Lecteurs, enfants d'Echo : livre, sens, horizon

This paper aims at analysing, in a phenomenological perspective, how meaning occurs in literary readings as well as in literary discussions. The study takes as its empirical starting point a seminar session, in which several academic readers have shared their experiences of the same novel. It appeared that the constitution of the novel's meaning was modified and continued during the discussion and, therefore, that the meaning of the novel was not available before the discussion happened. Then, to understand what happened before the discussion, the inquiry relies on P. Bayard's theoretical elaborations, which state that the solitary experience of reading itself involves previous readings: the subjectivity of the reader is haunted by a plurality of texts, virtually involved in the process of reading of the novel. Therefore, the article intends to explore the notion of potential space, coined by Winnicott, and to define it as an intersubjective space, made of virtual subjectivities. Ultimately, to describe the way a new meaning has arisen between the participants, the study relies on M. Richir's phenomenology. The point, here, is to question the actual but unconscious interweaving of the subjectivities in the discussion. Penser le bilan et le devenir de l’histoire du temps présent. Une approche des pratiques en études germaniques et dans l’hispanisme en France

The paper has two complementary aims. Starting from the fact that the “history of the present” and its methods have been institutionalized especially in France, it deals, on the one hand, with the debates that these historiographical practices have aroused both at the end of the twentieth and during the early twentieth-first centuries. In this way, the article points out to the challenges that “historians of the present” are currently facing, particularly in a context of strong social claims related to the globalized awareness of historical memory. On the other hand, the authors examine the potential contributions of areal studies to the further development of the “history of the present”, by highlighting its implications in the fields of German studies and Hispanism in France. Partant du constat selon lequel l’histoire du temps présent et ses méthodes se sont institutionnalisées en France notamment, il se propose d’une part de dresser le bilan des débats que ces pratiques historiographiques ont suscités, au tournant du XXe au XXIe siècle ainsi que dans les années 2010 ; puis d’analyser les défis que les historiens du temps présent relèvent actuellement, notamment dans le contexte d’une forte demande sociale et d’une mondialisation des questionnements et des revendications d’ordre mémoriel. À partir de cette réflexion critique, les auteurs de l’article examinent, d’autre part, les apports potentiels des études aréales au devenir d’une histoire du temps présent, en reconstituant les préoccupations correspondantes dans les domaines des études germaniques et de l’hispanisme en France.
