    How Can Be Lotic Ecosystem Size More Precisely Estimated? Comparing Different Approximations in Pre-Pyrenean and Pyrenean Mountains

    Rivers are among the most biodiverse and endangered ecosystems on earth. In Europe, concern over their conservation promoted the development of legal instruments for habitat and species conservation, the Habitats Directive, and water resource management, the Water Framework Directive. This legal protection demanded the estimate of river ecosystem surface for different purposes. Different approaches allow river surface to be measured at a low cost. Some accurate techniques like satellite images or LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) do not always work at a large scale or for streams and small rivers. We discuss here the use of the traditional hydraulics relationship between drainage area and bankfull width as a good approach to river surface estimation. We confirm that the use of this cheap and simple method could be a good approach to estimate river surface. However, we also proved that the development of regional curves, i.e., to establish the empirical relationship based on study area data, constitutes an essential improvement to estimation.This research was funded by the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, project number 3081147.     Manejo quirúrgico de la transmigración bilateral de caninos mandibulares. Reporte de caso

    Transmigration is defined as the phenomenon in which an unerupted included tooth transcends the midline by more than half of its length. It is a rare anomaly and it is even more rare to occur bilaterally. It is presented with greater incidence in the mandibular canines, in the female sex, unilaterally, and the left canine being the most commonly affected. The objective of this study is to describe satisfactory surgical management in a 16-year-old asymptomatic male patient, which presented to the intraoral clinical examination absence of both permanent mandibular canines and temporary biscuspid persistence. Lower left, accompanied by a slight dental malposition. In the radiographic exploration (panoramic), both right and left lower canines were observed, in a horizontal position, under the lower incisor apexes. We proceeded to the surgical extraction of both canines, passing the postoperative period without incidents. Satisfactory periodic and radiographic controls were performed at six months.La transmigración se define como el fenómeno en el cual un diente incluido no erupcionado, traspasa en más de la mitad de su longitud la línea media. Es una anomalía poco frecuente y es aún más raro que ocurra de forma bilateral. Se presenta con mayor incidencia en los caninos mandibulares, en el sexo femenino, de forma unilateral, y siendo el canino izquierdo el más comúnmente afectado. El objetivo de este trabajo es describir el manejo quirúrgico satisfactorio en un paciente varón de 16 años, asintomático, el cual presentaba a la exploración clínica intraoral ausencia de ambos caninos mandibulares permanentes y persistencia de canino temporal inferior izquierdo, acompañado de una ligera malposición dentaria. En la exploración radiográfica (panorámica), se observaron ambos caninos inferiores derecho e izquierdo, en posición horizontal, bajo los ápices de incisivos inferiores. Se procedió a la extracción quirúrgica de ambos caninos, transcurriendo el postoperatorio sin incidencias. Se realizaron controles periódicos y radiográficos satisfactorios a los seis meses

    Proton reconstruction with the CMS-TOTEM Precision Proton Spectrometer

    International audienceThe Precision Proton Spectrometer (PPS) of the CMS and TOTEM experiments collected 107.7 fb1^{-1} in proton-proton (pp) collisions at the LHC at 13 TeV (Run 2). This paper describes the key features of the PPS alignment and optics calibrations, the proton reconstruction procedure, as well as the detector efficiency and the performance of the PPS simulation. The reconstruction and simulation are validated using a sample of (semi)exclusive dilepton events. The performance of PPS has proven the feasibility of continuously operating a near-beam proton spectrometer at a high luminosity hadron collider

    A generic search is presented for the associated production of a Z boson or a photon with an additional unspecified massive particle X, pppp+Z/γ+X \mathrm{p}\mathrm{p}\to \mathrm{p}\mathrm{p} +\mathrm{Z}/\gamma+\mathrm{X} , in proton-tagged events from proton-proton collisions at s= \sqrt{s}= 13 TeV, recorded in 2017 with the CMS detector and the CMS-TOTEM precision proton spectrometer. The missing mass spectrum is analysed in the 600-1600 GeV range and a fit is performed to search for possible deviations from the background expectation. No significant excess in data with respect to the background predictions has been observed. To remove the dominant inclusive diphoton backgrounds, the kinematic properties of the protons detected in PPS are required to match those of the central diphoton system. Only events having opposite-side forward protons detected with a fractional momentum loss between 0.035 and 0.15 (0.18) for the detectors on the negative (positive) side of CMS are considered. One exclusive diphoton candidate is observed for an expected background of 1.1 events. Limits at 95% confidence level are derived for the four-photon anomalous coupling parameters ζ1 |\zeta_1| 100 GeV), back-to-back in azimuth, and with a large diphoton invariant mass (mγγ>m_{\gamma\gamma} \gt 350 GeV) are selected.
