Spherically Symmetric Solutions to Fourth-Order Theories of Gravity
Gravitational theories generated from Lagrangians of the form f(R) are
considered. The spherically symmetric solutions to these equations are
discussed, paying particular attention to features that differ from the
standard Schwarzschild solution. The asymptotic form of solutions is described,
as is the lack of validity of Birkhoff's theorem. Exact solutions are presented
which illustrate these points and their stability and geodesics are

Cosmologies with Energy Exchange
We provide a simple mathematical description of the exchange of energy
between two fluids in an expanding Friedmann universe with zero spatial
curvature. The evolution can be reduced to a single non-linear differential
equation which we solve in physically relevant cases and provide an analysis of
all the possible evolutions. Particular power-law solutions exist for the
expansion scale factor and are attractors at late times under particular
conditions. We show how a number of problems studied in the literature, such as
cosmological vacuum energy decay, particle annihilation, and the evolution of a
population of evaporating black holes, correspond to simple particular cases of
our model. In all cases we can determine the effects of the energy transfer on
the expansion scale factor. We also consider the situation in the presence of
anti-decaying fluids and so called phantom fluids which violate the dominant

Incidental PET/CT Findings of Suspected COVID-19 in a Region of High Prevalence.
We describe a case of suspected COVID-19 pneumonia in a 61-year-old male with known primary central nervous system diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) who underwent restaging PET/CT during the initial peak of infection of COVID-19 pneumonia within the New York region. At the time of his routine PET-CT to assess for disease progression, typical CT imaging features of COVID-19 pneumonia were identified. Upon further investigation, the patient was asymptomatic, and his infection status remained unknown. He was subsequently lost to follow-up with his COVID-19 status pending
Semicausal operations are semilocalizable
We prove a conjecture by DiVincenzo, which in the terminology of Preskill et
al. [quant-ph/0102043] states that ``semicausal operations are
semilocalizable''. That is, we show that any operation on the combined system
of Alice and Bob, which does not allow Bob to send messages to Alice, can be
represented as an operation by Alice, transmitting a quantum particle to Bob,
and a local operation by Bob. The proof is based on the uniqueness of the
Stinespring representation for a completely positive map. We sketch some of the
problems in transferring these concepts to the context of relativistic quantum

Anomalous scattering of highly dispersed pulsars
We report multifrequency measurements of scatter broadening times for nine
highly dispersed pulsars over a wide frequency range (0.6 -- 4.9 GHz). We find
the scatter broadening times to be larger than expected and to scale with
frequency with an average power-law index of , i.e. significantly
less than that expected from standard theories. Such possible discrepancies

An appropriate tool for entrepreneurial learning in SMEs? The case of the 20Twenty Leadership Programme
The 20Twenty Leadership Programme was developed by Cardiff Metropolitan University as an executive education programme to be delivered within South Wales to small businesses. It is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and administered by the Welsh European Funding Office and has the key aim of developing SMEâs growth potential via a range of leadership and management skills, including a focus on âsoftâ skills. The focus of this paper is to place the 20Twenty Leadership Programme within the wider context of entrepreneurship policy and SME training initiatives in particular, and then to examine the rationale and delivery methods of the Programme in relation to these. It also reflects on the Programmeâs success (or otherwise) to date where possible. Finally, the paper seeks to suggest fruitful areas of further research both in terms of the 20Twenty Leadership Programme itself, but also with regard to evaluation in relation to other parallel programmes, and to SME training initiatives more generally
Predicting in-hospital mortality and unanticipated admissions to the intensive care unit using routinely collected blood tests and vital signs: development and validation of a multivariable model.
AIM: The National Early Warning System (NEWS) is based on vital signs; the Laboratory Decision Tree Early Warning Score (LDT-EWS) on laboratory test results. We aimed to develop and validate a new EWS (the LDTEWS:NEWS risk index) by combining the two and evaluating the discrimination of the primary outcome of unanticipated intensive care unit (ICU) admission or in-hospital mortality, within 24âhours. METHODS: We studied emergency medical admissions, aged 16 years or over, admitted to Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) and Portsmouth Hospitals (PH). Each admission had vital signs and laboratory tests measured within their hospital stay. We combined LDT-EWS and NEWS values using a linear time-decay weighting function imposed on the most recent blood tests. The LDTEWS:NEWS risk index was developed using data from 5 years of admissions to PH, and validated on a year of data from both PH and OUH. We tested the risk index's ability to discriminate the primary outcome using the c-statistic. RESULTS: The development cohort contained 97,933 admissions (median ageâ=â73 years) of which 4,723 (4.8%) resulted in in-hospital death and 1,078 (1.1%) in unanticipated ICU admission. We validated the risk index using data from PH (nâ=â21,028) and OUH (nâ=â16,383). The risk index showed a higher discrimination in the validation sets (c-statistic value (95% CI)) (PH, 0.901 (0.898-0.905); OUH, 0.916 (0.911-0.921)), than NEWS alone (PH, 0.877 (0.873-0.882); OUH, 0.898 (0.893-0.904)). CONCLUSIONS: The LDTEWS:NEWS risk index increases the ability to identify patients at risk of deterioration, compared to NEWS alone
