The Global Financial Crisis: Management of Deficits and Debts

    Get PDF
The boom of world trade, the unprecedented openness of domestic markets, regional integration, and the persistence and magnitude of globalisation are as many challenges to the management of the internal balance between revenues and expenditures, both in the context of international, regional, national, and company mechanisms, and for the individual households and consumers. The coexistence of foreign deficits/trade and domestic deficits/ budget at macro level, at the same time with the accumulation of high levels of indebtedness of the states, non-financial corporate entities, and individual households requires, in the context of the present global financial crisis, new theoretical and practical approaches, new institutions, and new policies capable to secure the sustainability of growth, and to diminish the risk of increasingly unpredictable disturbances.global financial crisis, deficit management, indebtness rate, net landing and net borrowing, foreign/trade deficit, domestic/budgerary deficit

This paper deals with demographic trends in Romania and their influence on the labour market. In this context, unemployment and emigration are factors that play a significant role in the economy. The decline in employment weakens the social security system as employers and employees have to pay greater contributions. Also, the diminution in workforce and in the number of people in paid employment and the shortage of professionals working in specialized fields of health and education are issues requiring urgent clarification.mobility, demographic economics, particular labour markets, unemployment

WORK – LIFE BALANCE IN ROMANIA. A COMPARATIVE APPROACH

    Get PDF
In Romania, gross domestic product dropped from a total of € 48.75 billion in 1989 to € 40.28 billion in 2000, and after 2002 a significant increase reached over € 79 billion in 2005. The overall decrease in the number of employed persons by 2.56 million people, between 1989 and 2005, led to an increase in productivity of around €1,222 per employed person – representing 28.4% of the total productivity increase. A central factor of work–life balance policies is the issue of time. However, for many Romanians ‘time is money’, and the low level of income earned by the majority of Romanian workers means that the issue of free time tends to be a low priority. Such issues represent particular features of working time in Romania and imply a very specific perspective in terms of the balance between working life and family life.Economic trends, Wage, Households Income, Work-life balance

Non-competitive Evolutions of the Foreign Trade in Romania

AbstractAn analysis of statistic data and information provides evidence in support of the opinion that, apart from minor exceptions, Romania's foreign trade during the transition period (1991-2012) consisted mainly in the export of raw materials or barely finished products, and the import of manufactured goods. In other words, Romania practised a non-competitive, unproductive export, selling either raw natural produce or products with a rudimentary level of processing, obtained from derelict industrial facilities that were abandoned for lack of competitiveness. One direct effect of such practices was the loss of a huge number of salaried jobs, and the payment of labour at the lowest rates

INCOMES AND WORKING TIME – SUPPORT FOR QUALITY OF WORK AND EMPLOYMENT IN ROMANIA

    Get PDF
This paper contains a comparative analysis between living and working conditions in Romania and EU Member States, taking into account the differences between the existing regulations and the economic and social realities in these countries. Survey-based research on working conditions can prove valuable at a certain time if complemented with other data and facts regarding the particular socio-economic context and its changes in time. A strenght of the surveys is their ability to show that working conditions do not automatically improve as a result of the implementation of the acquis communautaire or following the improvement of labour market regulations. Besides, levels of income constitute one of the main reasons for dissatisfaction among Romanian workers
