PETRI NET BASED APPROACHES TO MANUFACTURING SYSTEMS

    Get PDF
This paper describes the planning in manufacturing systems. The skeleton and the functionality of a Petri Net Toolbox, embedded in the Matlab environment, are briefly presented, as offering a collection of instruments devoted to simulation, analysis and synthesis of discrete event systems. Timed Petri Nets are used to model operational and routing in production systems. A generalized multi productive machine modules is defined, adapter to system feature, repeated and connected to compose the TPN models of production systems with different levels of routing and operation. The present paper approaches the stochastic medium considered to be fundamental in describing the changes and the aleatory variations during the desertion process of machines and blocking times in the processing activity. We intend to present a simulated model according to which we can establish the time variation and the outputs process in a simple production system.Petri Nets, discrete event, manufacturing systems

What Medical Risks Should Physicians Disclose to their Patients? Towards a Better Standard in American and French Medical Malpractice Law

    Get PDF
This essay discusses the historical and evolutionary back-ground of the doctrine of informed consent in medical malpractice cases in order to provide the reader with a detailed and a unique comparative perspective of the law in the United States and in France, along with some cross-references to other legal systems across the globe. In order to achieve the desired goal, this paper conducts the analysis based on a hypothetical situation. Starting from these facts, the paper shows how and if the American and the French standards addressing the scope of the physician’s duty to disclose the risks intrinsic to the procedure draw a proper balance between the two conflicting interests (i.e., the patient and the physician). Keeping in mind that the principles of medical ethics and human rights should guide the legal development of the doctrine of informed consent, it is proposed, in a non-exhaustive manner, that the addition of two alternative legal standards of disclosure: a “mixed standard” that should embrace into tort law the notion of error, as vice of consent, and the shared-medical decision-making, which involves engaging both the physician and the patient in the process of deciding on the medical treatment or procedure. These innovative solutions protect the patient’s ability to obtain the in-formation necessary for an intelligent decision and, at the same time, provide the physician with a clear understanding of what necessary information should be disclosed in order to avoid liability based on the doctrine of informed consent

The Internet and the Informational Bulimia

AbstractUmberto Eco formulated the phrase that there is “no greater silence than the absolute noise”. The immensity of the online-information in any field is overwhelming today. In this paper I will formulate and look for answers for two key-questions: How much information do we need? How much information can we deal with? The paper deals with the informational bulimia, pointing to the way we are fed with information every day, being often driven to a consumption we aren’t able to control. My attention will be focused on online information: online news, online information for researchers and professionals and the online publishing of books

Land use, morphometric conditions and land degradation through erosion in Southern Transylvania : case study : Câlnic river basin

    Get PDF
The current geomorphologic processes are a form of land degradation. This is accomplished by mechanical removal of the alteration layer and soil layer as a result of the action of rainfall (splash erosion, rill erosion), of concentrated flow and of gravitational processes. These are conditioned by natural factors like: type of rock, geological structure, relief morphometry and modeling agent. However, the natural processes action is enhanced and complemented by anthropic intervention in the riverbeds and interfluvial surfaces and slopes, through the specific activities of forest and agricultural use. To assess the role of land use in shaping of slopes and land susceptibility to erosion we related the distribution of erosion forms on the Câlnic basin with different types of land use (arable land, vineyards, grassland, wood and built – up area). The potential of degradation through erosion was investigated in this basin, analyzing the morphometric indicators which facilitated the erosion process (elevation, slope, aspect and curvature of surface) and the land use

Skin Capacitive Image Stitching and Occlusion Measurements

    Get PDF
The aim of this study is to develop new analysis techniques for skin capacitive image stitching and occlusion measurements. Through image stitching, small skin capacitive images can be stitched into large skin capacitive images and, therefore, provide more skin image information. Through occlusion, e.g., keeping the measurement device on skin for a period of time, the skin health status can be studied through time-dependent response curves. Results show that time-dependent skin capacitive imaging curves can tell us the information about transdermal water loss (TEWL) as well as skin surface profiles. By using the structural similarity index measure (SSIM), the TEWL map can be constructed, which shows the water loss map on the skin surface. We first present the theoretical background and then the experimental results

In this paper I approach the theme of the foreigner from the point of view of the exiled. The nucleus of the paper is constituted by the work of some Romanian writers, which due to political factors had to look for other places where they could express themselves in freedom. These have chosen Spain to live and write. Nevertheless they did not forget the values of their country and constantly tried to maintain the relationship with it, even though only through writing, that become the only witness of their sufferings, so it become the only pillar of the divided, broken and fragmental being that it is the exiled.În această lucrare abordez tema străinului din punctul de vedere al exilatului.

Nicolae Milescu Spătarul, a scholar from Moldova (born in 1636), is known especially for his activity during the second half of his life, from his permanent relocation to Russia (1671) to the year of his death (1708). Within this interval, in which he served the Tsars’ interests as a translator at Posolski Prikaz, some sort of Ministry of External Affairs, he is sent by the Tsar Alexei Mihailovici with an embassy to the Emperor of China, thus becoming the first European scholar who travelled from Moscow to Pekin, crossing through Siberia. This paper is focused on the first half of his life, following, firstly, his studies at the Great School of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the education he received there, his relationships with the princes of Moldova, the relationships with other scholars from his time. Then follows his European journey: Berlin – Stettin – Stockholm – Paris, his relationship with the jansenists of Port Royal and the presentation of his work Enchiridion sive Stella Orientalis splendens Occidentali, in which he analyses a theological dispute that was of interest for the jansenists. The Enchiridion is made in Paris, in the year 1699, and is the first work published by a Romanian in the Occident. Our paper includes, for the first time integrally translated into Romanian, a few pages of correspondence, which illustrate, on one hand, the bond with the French ambassador of Stockholm and on the other, the accreditation of Milescu at the Court of Sweden as a representative of the former prince, Gheorghe Ștefan
