The diploma of deepening and psychosocial accompaniment in contexts of violence, allows to reflect and evaluate from the narrative approach cases of violence and armed conflict present in Colombia; from the case of Ana ligia, taken from the book "Voices: Stories of violence and hope in Colombia" (World Bank, 2009, p. 8). A woman from the corregimiento of Aquitaine who was forced to leave and abandon everything because of the armed conflict, presenting serious effects on different significant aspects of her life, as White (2016) states, "change their way of life or change the events that surround them. Many have lost the value of being people, they have lost the notion of who they are, of their "sense of self" (p.3). However, despite the situations lived Ana Ligia maintains the sense of herself and recognizes what gives value to her life maintaining a resilient attitude, thus changing her role from victim to survivor, finding motivation in working with women also victims of violence, recognizing the experiences as a learning that today allow her to inspire other victims through her poetry. The violence in its various scenarios generates important effects on the mental health of the victims, as is the case of Peñas Coloradas Case taken from: "The State declared the Army temporary owner of our hamlet and condemned us to exile." (2019. Truth Commission), considered as a relevant case in the history of Colombia which will be analyzed

Organic and conventional farming systems shape soil bacterial community composition in tropical arable farming

Soils present a limited resource for agricultural production and bear a vast diversity of organisms crucial for crop health and the provision of ecosystem services. There is growing evidence that agricultural practices affect soil microbial community structure and function but currently, there is a knowledge gap when it comes to tropical arable farming systems. In this study, we investigated the long-term impact of organic and conventional production systems on bacterial communities in two field trial located on a rhodic and humic nitisol in the Central Highlands of Kenya. The field sites operate on a full factorial design, testing farming systems (organic vs conventional) and input levels (high vs low). Including four field replication we assessed soil bacterial community structure via amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene and soils capacity for nitrification and nitrous oxide reduction via qPCR of functional genes (bacterial and archaeal amoA, nosZ) after 12 years of distinct management and before the start of the 5th three-year crop rotation period in 2019. The abundances of amoA bearing nitrifiers and nosZ bearing nitrous oxide reducers were enhanced in the high input organic production system on humic but not in rhodic nitisols. For both soil types, high input organic production system resulted in distinct bacterial community structure with enhanced bacterial richness compared to conventional and low input production systems. In rhodic and humic nitisols 160 and 84 OTUs were found to be indicative for organic production system at high input levels organic. Taxa associated with this system were identified as potential primary decomposers or symbionts related to plant nitrogen fixation, suggesting organic fertilization strategies such as manure composting as major driver for changes in soil bacterial community structure. This study reveals that organic production systems at high input levels on tropical nitisols translates to distinct soil bacterial communities with increased capacity for soil processes that are crucial for crop nutrient supply

Abstract. In this work the sequencing and genome characterization of a natural isolate of Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast (strain 202-3), identified with potential for the production of second generation ethanol is presented. In previous studies conducted by the Research Group of Chemical and Biochemical Processes focused on the production of second-generation ethanol from sugarcane bagasse hydrolysates, we identified a group of isolates of S. cerevisiae with a consumption of xylose (sugar present in hydrolysates) of 2-5% for strain 202-3, this being an advantage for the fermentation of hydrolysates, since many strains of S. cerevisiae are incapable of processing. This advantage and other prominent positive aspects during fermentation profiles evaluated bagasse hydrolysates made the strain 202-3 a candidate strain to improve the production of second-generation ethanol, which was proposed as a first step to study the strain at the genomic level. The molecular characterization was carried out by genome sequencing with the Illumina HiSeq 2000 platform paired end; the assembly was performed with different programs, finally choosing the assembler ABYSS with kmer 89. Gene prediction was developed with the approach of hidden Markov models with Augustus. The genes identified were scored based on similarity with public databases of nucleotide and protein. Records were organized from ontological functions at different hierarchical levels, which identified central metabolic functions and roles of the S. cerevisiae strain 202-3, highlighting the presence of four possible new proteins, two of them probably associated with the positive consumption of xylose.Maestrí

Genome sequencing of three bacteria associated to black band disease from a Colombian reef-building coral

    No full text
We announce the draft genome sequence of three Gram-negative bacteria isolated from coral tissues affected with the black band disease (BBD), identified with the NCBI's Assembly Database accession numbers: MBQF, MAYB and MBQE. These genome drafts constitute an useful tool for the characterisation of these bacteria and for the understanding of the relationship between the microbial consortia associated with the disease and the onset and progression of the pathology
