Aplicabilidad de B-CUBE al sector servicios
Ponencia presentada en el XII Congreso Internacional de IngenierÃa de Proyectos celebrado en Zaragoza en el año 2008With the concept of globalization and the delegation of the tasks that major manpower need,
the core of the economy of the capitals of the major world powers has derived to the tertiary
sector (services sector). In this field to support the competitiveness is not enough, it is
necessary continue improvement in order to not be displaced of the market by others.
Functional design, widely used successfully in all the engineering fields, has been revealed
as a useful tool in the tertiary sector, when it comes to design the companies and establish
relations between departments based on functions that they play inside the company.
B-Cube is a new approach to functional design through FBS framework. The above
mentioned approach purposes a three dimensional scheme that uses definitions as
Behaviours concepts. The key of this approach is that a Behaviour is not defined with a word
or a taxon, which could cause ambiguity and misinterpretation, but rather defined as a three
dimensional vector (X, Y, Z), set by its characteristics and qualities.
In this work we present the process to elaborate a functional design of a company of the
services sector through the B-Cube model, defended with a practical application.
It emerges
from the study of hundreds of thousands patents, and it consists on a set of model-based
tools for idea and innovation solutions generation, in order to solve problems. These tools
have a creative and innovative potential that can be used for designers by means of
Computer Aided Inventing (CAI) tools. The present work shows a study over different TRIZ
tools and their capacity to be automated in design process, through a Knowledge Based
System (KBS) based on the Behaviour-driven Function-Environment-Structure (B-FES)
B-Cube, Behavioural modelling of technical artefacts
A new model, B-Cube, is described for managing knowledge at the behaviour level of the function–behaviour–structure framework. The model proposes a three-dimensional approach to the behavioural modelling of technical artefacts using definitions based mainly on the meta-ontology DOLCE as concepts of behaviour.
The present work aims to show how these terms and those from the NIST functional basis can complement each other in functional design. It is assumed that this model achieves similar objectives with behaviours to those obtained by the NIST functional basis with functions, i.e. the representation of behaviours in CAD and KBS, a scheme for the modelling of behaviours and a universal set of behaviours. The modelling language IDEF was adapted to be able to produce a graphic example of the modelling of technical artefacts in the FBS framework using B-Cube terminology at the behaviour level
Ponencia presentada en el XIV Congreso Internacional de IngenierÃa de Proyectos celebrado en Madrid, 30 de junio, 1 y 2 de julio de 2010Functional design has been broadly used in all engineering fields, but nowadays it has been
revealed as a useful tool both for enterprise design and organization, and project
management and direction. The FBS framework has been established as one of the most
effectives and extended ones for including all parts that characterize functional design:
functions, behaviours, and structures. Authors propose B-Cube model in order to represent
and manipulate knowledge within this framework. This model proposes a three-dimensional
approach that uses definitions as behaviour’s concepts, and it has been tested in tangible
objects design.
But quantity of knowledge in universe is immense, almost infinite. In order of being able to
manage this knowledge, each different branch of science has developed its own particular
system, and multitude of vocabularies have been elaborated for structuring the specific parts
of knowledge. One special kind of classification commonly used is a taxonomy, a set of
concepts and relationships hierarchically arranged and classified in classes and sub-classes.
The present work shows a study over human’s behaviour taxonomies with the aim of pointing
the optimal for representing the needed levels of FBS framework for functional design
through B-Cube model.
methodology for design analysis process, since it allows to represent a design evolution from
a protocols study. This framework allows carrying out computational modelling, this is,
computer applications able to search and combine solution design procedures for a problem
represented by functions. The possibilities of these systems have been increased with the
use of function classifications, this is, the use of taxonomies and ontologies.
The present work shows a design evolution from some given requirements, using
taxonomies provided by the functional basis of NIST (National Institute of Standards and
Technology) and B-Cube model. With this example it is expected to empirically demonstrate
how this model will work into a KBS (Knowledge Based System), and how it can provide
alternative valid solutions for the initial problem, supported by the necessary databases.
Institute of Standards and Technology) y por el modelo B-Cube.
The
Integration TRIZ in synthesis computational models has been the study object of many
researchers. While there exist a large number of studies discussing a theoretical way to
integrate TRIZ creativity with semantic knowledge in order to provide assistance in the
design phase, few researches have sought to put a model into practice.
Several studies describe proposals of CAI models based on the architecture of a
system from the TRIZ viewpoint, as well as proposals to allow its integration through
topological optimization systems. The present study aims to go a step further than
previous attempts to combine existing TRIZ software with Knowledge Based
Engineering (KBE) semantic tools.
The purpose of our work is to establish a relation between generic taxonomies of
engineering functions and flows and TRIZ taxonomies as a first step in the creation of
a library of TRIZ-based algorithms for generating and evaluating solutions that consider
the product lifecycle. This library should also allow its integration into a KBE system
through a Function-Behaviour-Structure (FBS) framework.
Conocimiento (Knowledge Based Engineering, KBE).

regarding to biocompatibility, aesthetics and functionability, at same time that patient’s
wait time and costs reduction are demanded.
From decades ago, implants have been manufactured by mechanizing titanium. It
exists the possibility of use prefabricated implants, which only need to mechanize the
suitable adjustments for each patient, so waiting times are reduced but implant must be
processed twice.
The present article presents a study about the different alternatives existing in the
market in order to improve the implants and their manufacture process, empathizing in
the use of biomaterials and RP (rapid prototyping) techniques instead of metallic
materials and mechanizing techniques.
society in a standardized way, in order to their ideas achieve success. As this is a
computerized age, Knowledge Based Engineering (KBE) has available a lot of
standardized methodologies in order to represent the information and transfer it to
computerized systems in order to be automated, either they are informal models
addressed to a first capture and organization of those knowledge, like for example
MOKA modelling language, or formal models, like the IDEF language family, the UML
language, or the XML one. A huge number of designers specialized or not in
knowledge engineering use the FBS (Function – Behaviour – Strucutre) framework for
developing their work within functional design field. The present work presents an
IDEF4-based informal model for representing designs within FBS framework, and more
accurately the B-FES framework, that adds the environment to the three previous
definitions.
The aim of adaptable design is to create products that can easily adapt to different needs. The objective if this study is to analyze the effectivenes in communication to promote an adaptable baby stroller, in order to know the user perception of the advantages derived from its adaptability, as well as the environmental ones, and if there is correlation between them. It is also intended to determine whether age or previous experience with this type of product can influence this perception. To this effect, a study with 54 participants has been conducted. Results show that users percieve the advantages and find the adaptable design interesting. Valuation of the advantages of the product is affected by previous user experience with the need for adaptability. Valuation of the environmental benefits is independent from the degree of experiense, as well as from the age of the participants (between 30 and 45 years old).El diseño adaptable tiene como objetivo crear productos que puedan adaptarse fácilmente a diferentes necesidades.
The effect of nature on designers' creativity, according to their personality profile
The aim of this work is to demonstrate whether natural environments, either real or simulated, tend to enhance designers' creativity, and whether the effects differ depending on their personality profile. Numerous studies have been conducted on the variables that shape the work environment and affect the designer's creativity, but few take into account the interaction between the work environment and the designer's personality profile. The aim of this study is to carry out a practical experiment in which a certain number of individuals solve conceptual design problems in different work environments, followed by an assessment of the creativity of the results. The results show higher values of creativity for both types of natural setting than in a neutral scenario. The personality of the designers determines whether the highest values are achieved in real or in artificial nature
