Beyond Technology, How are Global Organizations Simplifying Their HR Processes and What are the Processes That Most Organizations Choose to Centralize?

    Get PDF
A growing realization was that with global changes in the labor force, HR Professionals are being asked to do more with less, to do different work and to do it better, which puts them under greater pressure to redefine their roles and reevaluate their structure. The HR function must not only be focused on the workplace but also the marketplace and linked directly to the core business strategy. In order to achieve this, the HR department should be an integrated unit within the business and therefore centralized. A centralized human resources department streamlines all the functions of the department within a complex system. The essential aspect of this style of human resources management is the centralized location of all the individuals within the human resources department. According to Wendell French, author of Human Resources Management, the physical proximity of centralized human resources personnel not only improves communication, but also helps ensure that everyone works toward the same company goals. The article will introduce the technology and process companies use to better manage and operate the Human Resources Management Centralization

What are the Characteristics that Separate High Potential Executives From the Rest?

    Get PDF
One of the most active field in business oriented psychology has been concerning the matter of the identification of personality and behavioral traits that separate high performers from the rest of the pack. Which characteristics seem to be the most effective in predicting an executive’s performance? How can we precisely define them? Which ways allow us to detect them easily? The effective identification of the predominant traits that are common to high performance executives allow for an easier way to detect potential for talent and promotion, and thus improves greatly the company’s competitiveness

Dynamic Format Selection of Media Content

    Get PDF
Disclosed herein is an improved mechanism for dynamic format selection of media content. The mechanism can use a machine learning model to select a format (e.g., a playback resolution) for providing media content based on information available at the time when the request for providing the media content is received. Such information can include, for example, location information (e.g., the geographic location of a user device that is presenting the media content), account information (e.g., previously selected media content items, watch time statistical information, subscription information, etc.), and/or network condition information (e.g., current egress traffic from one or more servers associated with the media streaming service)

Identification of Fungal Isolates Associated with Anthracnose Disease on Chilli

    Get PDF
Chilli fruit is an important plant crop that can be easily infected by anthracnose disease, that caused severe yield losses at the post-harvest stage to chilli producers and farmers. Colletotrichum species infection is the most common disease concern in chilli production, leading to anthracnose disease. This study aims to identify the Colletotrichum species associated with chilli anthracnose from infected fruits collected from several markets in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak. Pathogenicity test was conducted for the fungal isolates to evaluate their pathogenic level. Based on the results that have been obtained, three fungal isolates were successfully obtained and morphologically identified as Colletotrichum sp. The three isolates were identified as Colletotrichum sp. 1, Colletotrichum sp. 2 and Colletotrichum sp. 3. Each isolate was labelled as C11R2, C12R3 and C1R1-1 respectively. From these, Colletotrichum sp. 2 had the highest level of pathogenicity among the Colletotrichum spp. with disease severity percentage of 44%. Meanwhile, the percentage of disease severity of Colletotrichum sp. 1 ranged from 22% to 29%, and the ranged of disease severity percentage for Colletotrichum sp. 3 ranged from 12% to 19%. Identification of fungal isolates and their pathogenic level from the infected chilli is essential in disease control and management, correlated to selection of suitable resistant cultivars and fungicides

Optimal Investment Strategies for DC Pension with Stochastic Salary under the Affine Interest Rate Model

    Get PDF
We study the optimal investment strategies of DC pension, with the stochastic interest rate (including the CIR model and the Vasicek model) and stochastic salary. In our model, the plan member is allowed to invest in a risk-free asset, a zero-coupon bond, and a single risky asset. By applying the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation, Legendre transform, and dual theory, we find the explicit solutions for the CRRA and CARA utility functions, respectively

The Impact of Self-Quantification on Consumers’ Participation in Green Consumption Activities and Behavioral Decision-Making

    No full text
Looking at the contradiction between the prevalence of self-quantification and unclear applicable boundaries, the objective of this study is to examine the internal mechanism of how self-quantification influences consumers’ participation and behavioral decision-making in green consumption activities. Based on the goal setting theory, a series of research hypotheses were proposed. Four experiments were designed and performed in different situations with different subjects. Through the analysis of variance and bootstrap testing, the experimental data were analyzed and processed. The results show that, under specific goals, consumers with low self-quantification participate more in promotional activities and less in defensive activities. In promotional green consumption activities, self-quantification enables consumers with (without) goal requirements to reduce (enhance) their participation performance, and choose high-intensity promotional activity categories less (more) with better (worse) participation experience. In defensive green consumption activities, self-quantification enables consumers with (without) goal limitations to enhance (reduce) participation performance and choose high-intensity defensive categories more (less) with better (worse) participation experience. The conclusions can provide enlightenment for enterprises to guide consumers to participate in green consumption activities

Application of Group Method of Data Handling on the Ultimate Conditions’ Prediction of FRP-Confined Concrete Cylinders

    No full text
Fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) is widely used in the field of structural engineering, for example, as a confining material for concrete. The ultimate conditions (i.e., compressive strength and ultimate axial strain) are key factors that need to be considered in the practical applications of FRP-confined concrete cylinders. However, the prediction accuracy of existing confinement models is low and cannot provide an effective reference for practical applications. In this paper, a database containing experimental data of 221 FRP-confined normal concrete cylinder specimens was collected from the available literature, and eleven parameters such as the confining stress, stiffness ratio and strain ratio were selected as the input parameters. Then, a promising machine learning algorithm, i.e., group method of data handling (GMDH), was applied to establish a confinement model. The GMDH model was compared with nine existing models, and the prediction results of these models were evaluated by five comprehensive indicators. The results indicated that the GMDH model had higher prediction accuracy and better stability than existing confinement models, with determination coefficients of 0.97 (compressive strength) and 0.91 (ultimate axial strain). Finally, a convenient graphical user interface (GUI) was developed, which can provide a quick and efficient reference for engineering design and is freely available
