Performance investigation of hybrid excited switched flux permanent magnet machines using frozen permeability method
This study investigates the electromagnetic performance of a hybrid excited switched flux permanent magnet (SFPM) machine using the frozen permeability (FP) method. The flux components due to PMs, field excitation windings and armature windings have been separated using the FP method. It has been used to separate the torque components due to the PMs and excitations, providing a powerful insight into the torque generation mechanism of hybrid excited SFPM machines. It also allows the accurate calculation of d- and q-axis inductances, which will then be used to calculate the torque, power and power factor against rotor speed to compare the relative merits of hybrid excited SFPM machines with different types of PMs (i.e. NdFeB, SmCo and Ferrite). This offers the possibility of choosing appropriate PMs for different applications (maximum torque or maximum speed). Although only one type of hybrid excited PM machine has been employed to carry out the investigations, the method used in this study can also be extended to other hybrid excited PM machines. The predicted results have been validated by tests
Measurement of the final states , , and from \psip electromagnetic decays and \ee annihilations
Cross sections and form factors for \ee \to \wpi, , and
\rho\etap at center of mass energies of 3.650, 3.686, and 3.773 GeV are
measured using data samples collected with the BESII detector at the BEPC.
Also, the branching fractions of \psi(2S) \rar \wpi, , and

Higher-order multipole amplitude measurement in
Using events collected with the BESIII detector at
the BEPCII storage ring, the higher-order multipole amplitudes in the radiative
transition are measured.
A fit to the production and decay angular distributions yields
and , where the first
errors are statistical and the second systematic. Here denotes the
normalized magnetic quadrupole amplitude and the normalized electric
octupole amplitude. This measurement shows evidence for the existence of the
signal with statistical significance and is consistent with
the charm quark having no anomalous magnetic moment.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figure
Study of and and
We study the decays of and to the final states
and based on a single
baryon tag method using data samples of
and events collected with
the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decays to
are observed for the first time. The
measured branching fractions of and
are in good agreement with, and much
more precise, than the previously published results. The angular parameters for
these decays are also measured for the first time. The measured angular decay
parameter for , , is found to be negative, different to the other
decay processes in this measurement. In addition, the "12\% rule" and isospin
symmetry in the and and
systems are tested.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures. This version is consistent with paper published

Observation of decays into vector meson pairs , , and
Decays of to vector meson pairs , and
are observed for the first time using
\psip events accumulated at the BESIII detector at the BEPCII
collider. The branching fractions are measured to be , , and , for , , and ,
respectively. The observation of decays into a pair of vector
mesons , and indicates that the hadron
helicity selection rule is significantly violated in decays. In
addition, the measurement of gives the rate of doubly
OZI-suppressed decay. Branching fractions for and
decays into other vector meson pairs are also measured with improved precision.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
First Observation of the Decays chi_{cJ} -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0
We present a study of the P-wave spin -triplet charmonium chi_{cJ} decays
(J=0,1,2) into pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0. The analysis is based on 106 million
\psiprime decays recorded with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron
positron collider. The decay into the pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 hadronic final state
is observed for the first time. We measure the branching fractions B(chi_{c0}
-> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0)=(3.34 +- 0.06 +- 0.44)*10^{-3}, B(chi_{c1} -> pi^0 pi^0
pi^0 pi^0)=(0.57 +- 0.03 +- 0.08)*10^{-3}, and B(chi_{c2} -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0
pi^0)=(1.21 +- 0.05 +- 0.16)*10^{-3}, where the uncertainties are statistical
and systematical, respectively.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Impact of Cigarette Smoke Exposure on Innate Immunity: A Caenorhabditis elegans Model
BACKGROUND: Cigarette smoking is the major cause of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and lung cancer. Respiratory bacterial infections have been shown to be involved in the development of COPD along with impaired airway innate immunity. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: To address the in vivo impact of cigarette smoke (CS) exclusively on host innate defense mechanisms, we took advantage of Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans), which has an innate immune system but lacks adaptive immune function. Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PA) clearance from intestines of C. elegans was dampened by CS. Microarray analysis identified 6 candidate genes with a 2-fold or greater reduction after CS exposure, that have a human orthologue, and that may participate in innate immunity. To confirm a role of CS-down-regulated genes in the innate immune response to PA, RNA interference (RNAi) by feeding was carried out in C. elegans to inhibit the gene of interest, followed by PA infection to determine if the gene affected innate immunity. Inhibition of lbp-7, which encodes a lipid binding protein, resulted in increased levels of intestinal PA. Primary human bronchial epithelial cells were shown to express mRNA of human Fatty Acid Binding Protein 5 (FABP-5), the human orthologue of lpb-7. Interestingly, FABP-5 mRNA levels from human smokers with COPD were significantly lower (p = 0.036) than those from smokers without COPD. Furthermore, FABP-5 mRNA levels were up-regulated (7-fold) after bacterial (i.e., Mycoplasma pneumoniae) infection in primary human bronchial epithelial cell culture (air-liquid interface culture). CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that the C. elegans model offers a novel in vivo approach to specifically study innate immune deficiencies resulting from exposure to cigarette smoke, and that results from the nematode may provide insight into human airway epithelial cell biology and cigarette smoke exposure
Search for C-parity violation in and
Using events recorded in
collisions at 3.686 GeV with the BESIII at the BEPCII collider, we
present searches for C-parity violation in and decays via . No significant
signals are observed in either channel. Upper limits on the branching fractions
are set to be and
at the 90\%
confidence level. The former is one order of magnitude more stringent than the
previous upper limit, and the latter represents the first limit on this decay
channel.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Precision measurement of the branching fractions of J/psi -> pi+pi-pi0 and psi' -> pi+pi-pi0
We study the decays of the J/psi and psi' mesons to pi+pi-pi0 using data
samples at both resonances collected with the BES III detector in 2009. We
measure the corresponding branching fractions with unprecedented precision and
provide mass spectra and Dalitz plots. The branching fraction for J/psi ->
pi+pi-pi0 is determined to be (2.137 +- 0.004 (stat.) +0.058-0.056 (syst.)
+0.027-0.026 (norm.))*10-2, and the branching fraction for psi' -> pi+pi-pi0 is
measured as (2.14 +- 0.03 (stat.) +0.08-0.07 (syst.) +0.09-0.08 (norm.))*10-4.
The J/psi decay is found to be dominated by an intermediate rho(770) state,
whereas the psi' decay is dominated by di-pion masses around 2.2 GeV/c2,
leading to strikingly different Dalitz distributions.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
Study of radiative decays into a vector meson
The decays () are studied with
a sample of radiative \psip\to\gamma\chi_{cJ} events in a sample of
(1.06\pm0.04)\times 10^{8} \psip events collected with the BESIII detector.
The branching fractions are determined to be: , , and . The decay is observed for the first time. Upper limits at the 90% confidence
level on the branching fractions for and \chict decays into these
final states are determined. In addition, the fractions of the transverse
polarization component of the vector meson in decays
are measured to be for , for , and for , respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second
ones are systematic.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
