An investigation of the construct of work drive
There are many different ways to study people\u27s commitment to their work. Mirels and Garrett (1971) studied the Protestant Work Ethic; Lawler and Hall (1970) examined job involvement; Kanungo (1982) researched work involvement; and Machlowitz (1980) studied workaholics. This present study pursues one aspect of this commitment to work - which is termed here work drive.
The data analyzed in this thesis were generated as part of a pre-employment test validation study conducted by Resource Associates, Inc. for an automotive manufacturing company. My analysis of the data is focused on the work drive measure, its criterion-related validity with job performance, and its relation to the 16 PF and NEO-PIR dimensions.
It is found that the work drive construct is significantly and uniquely related to job performance over and beyond the constructs usually related to job performance. In addition, the work drive measure is significantly related to several normal personality constructs, which reflects the complexity of its construct. Work drive should be examined further to gain a more comprehensive view of its construct
An Investigation of Sense of Identity among College Students
In this study the construct, Sense of Identity was examined. Specifically, variables conceptually related to Sense of Identity will be described, and the nature of any relationships with personality traits including the Big Five personality traits of agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability, extraversion, and openness were explored. Additionally, the study examined the nature of the relationships between narrow personality traits and Sense of Identity. Lastly, the relationships between Sense of Identity and extracurricular activities were investigated. Sense of Identity was positively related to the Big Five personality traits with a range of r=.32 to r=.46 with p\u3c.01. Additionally, the selected Narrow Personality traits were also significantly related to Sense of Identity with Optimism and Career Drive having the strongest relationships with r=.65 (p\u3c.01)and r=.62 (p\u3c.01) respectively. The combination of research from multiple academic realms regarding identity into an inclusive concept that is measured empirically, allowed for a more accurate measure of the construct, Sense of Identity. It also provided valuable insight regarding the construct of Sense of Identity and personality, particularly in the academic realm. Implications for theory and future research were discussed

Why do we need sex‐balanced studies of autism?
Males are diagnosed with autism much more frequently than females, and most research study samples reflect this male predominance. The result is that autistic females are understudied. There is a critical need to increase our understanding of autistic females, both biologically and clinically. The only way to do this is to recruit sex-balanced cohorts in studies so that similarities and differences between males and females can be evaluated in all autism research studies. The purpose of this commentary is to (1) provide historical context about how females came to be under-represented in all research, not just in the field of autism and (2) learn from other areas of health and medicine about the potentially dire consequences of not studying both sexes, and (3) draw attention to the need to recruit sex-balanced cohorts in autism research, particularly in neuroimaging studies
Risk-Adjusted Performance Attribution and Portfolio Optimisation under Tracking-Error Constraints for SIAS Canadian Equity Fund
This thesis is inspired by the article “Risk-adjusted performance attribution and portfolio optimizations under tracking error-constraints” by Bertrand (2008) together with some hand-on experience gained though managing a portfolio worth over 4 million CAD in value to test the following: If the SIAS Canadian Equity portfolio sector weights remain the same, what is the expected information ratio? And will this be improved by optimizing the sector weights according to the tracking-error variance frontier? We will then test the robustness of our findings by changing the time period and perform a sensitivity analysis on the estimated expected returns. We will also compare the results with those derived from the mean-variance optimization, by applying mean-variance optimal weights and recalculate the expected information ratio. The findings are as follows: The TEV optimized weights does improve the expected information ratio for a portfolio. This finding is further verified since it gives the same result with different time periods. The sensitivity analysis gives us an interval that the optimized sector weights will be within that interval with 95% probability. Moreover, the comparison to the mean-variance optimized portfolio shows that the tracking-error variance optimization gives less extreme results and is easier to implement, while maintaining a positive expected excess return compared to the benchmark
The origin of the complex character of the ohmic impedance
The local and global Ohmic response for an electrode exhibiting geometry-induced potential and/or current distributions has recently been shown to be represented by a frequency-dependent complex impedance. A physical explanation for this result is provided in terms of the radial contribution to local current density and the decrease in current density along the current lines. Experiments performed with Cu/Al and Mg/Al galvanic couples show that, in regions where a radial current density does not exist, the local Ohmic impedance is independent of position; whereas, in regions where the radial current density cannot be neglected, the local Ohmic impedance is a function of position. Simulations performed on recessed electrodes show that, even in the absence of a radial current, an axial variation of current density gives rise to a complex Ohmic impedance. The complex character of the Ohmic impedance shows that an equivalent circuit, using the usual two-terminal resistor to represent the Ohmic contribution of the electrolyte, provides an inadequate representation of an electrode with geometry-induced current and potential distributions
