Water is an integral part of human life. Without water, no living creature or plant on earth would exist. When a house or any building for that matter is built, water supply is always a major part of the design consideration. The plumbing layout is efficiently planned and laid out so that all spaces with water needs are connected to the water system. Aside from water supply, the layout also covers other important aspects like drainage and wastewater management systems. The components in the system would normally include pipes, fittings, valves, and other plumbing accessories. In this study, step by step procedure of supply of fresh water, drainage and wastewater management systems for a single multistory building of Dhaka city will be demonstrated. With an aim to provide more comprehensive information in a user-friendly manner to the practitioners, This study is designed to provide as a ‘Formula’ of plumbing system which can be applied in residential, commercial, industrial or other numerous varieties of buildings. The study of Interior design history of any country or society signifies the history of the settlement of the particular society, their level of culture, heritage, education and environment. All these several aspects indicate to the originality, individuality or in a word, ‘Design statement’ of a specific society or country. Design Statements serve to present intent, process, and the context of work. They vary from addressing a specific piece to looking at the overall approach to design. Design as art is the choices that the designers make in distinguishing themselves from others, and design statement is an expression of those choices. Modern human life actually evolves within one Interior to another. One may prefer open air, cool breeze or open field once or twice in a day but for resting purpose, executing household works, education or profession the ultimate destination is within the enclosure of four walls, a ceiling and a floor, an Interior space. So Interior plays a very significant role in life. There are several perspectives to look into Interior design; it may be professional or armature but the important aspect of it is impossible to escape. The purpose of this study is to appraise the accessible products display for the purchaser lucidity which may maximizes offers and actions of business with the alleviation in circulation to augment the random sale in the arena of supermarket. The study scrutinizes a fundamental research on the context of Bangladesh and especially for the Dhaka zone. A supermarket, a large form of the traditional grocery store, is a self-service shop offering a wide variety of food and household products, organized into aisles. It is larger in size and has a wider selection than a traditional grocery store, but is smaller and more limited in the range of merchandise than a hypermarket or big-box market. The traditional supermarket occupies a large amount of floor space, usually on a single level. It is usually situated near a residential area in order to be convenient to consumers. The basic appeal is the availability of a broad selection of goods under a single roof, at relatively low prices. Other advantages include ease of parking and frequently the convenience of shopping hours that extend far into the evening or even 24 hours a day. Observation of Bose-Einstein Condensation in a Strong Synthetic Magnetic Field

    Get PDF
Extensions of Berry's phase and the quantum Hall effect have led to the discovery of new states of matter with topological properties. Traditionally, this has been achieved using gauge fields created by magnetic fields or spin orbit interactions which couple only to charged particles. For neutral ultracold atoms, synthetic magnetic fields have been created which are strong enough to realize the Harper-Hofstadter model. Despite many proposals and major experimental efforts, so far it has not been possible to prepare the ground state of this system. Here we report the observation of Bose-Einstein condensation for the Harper-Hofstadter Hamiltonian with one-half flux quantum per lattice unit cell. The diffraction pattern of the superfluid state directly shows the momentum distribution on the wavefuction, which is gauge-dependent. It reveals both the reduced symmetry of the vector potential and the twofold degeneracy of the ground state. We explore an adiabatic many-body state preparation protocol via the Mott insulating phase and observe the superfluid ground state in a three-dimensional lattice with strong interactions.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Increases Glycemic Variability and Time in Hypoglycemia in Patients With Obesity and Prediabetes or Type 2 Diabetes: A Prospective Cohort Study

    Get PDF
OBJECTIVE: Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) is an established treatment for type 2 diabetes and obesity. The study objective was to establish RYGB's effects on glycemic variability (GV) and hypoglycemia. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This was a prospective observational study of 10 participants with obesity and prediabetes or type 2 diabetes who underwent RYGB. Patients were studied before RYGB (Pre) and 1 month, 1 year, and 2 years postsurgery with continuous glucose measurement (CGM). A mixed-meal test (MMT) was conducted at Pre, 1 month, and 1 year. RESULTS: After RYGB, mean CGM decreased (at 1 month, 1 year, and 2 years), and GV increased (at 1 year and 2 years). Five of the 10 participants had a percent time in range (%TIR) <3.0 mmol/L (54 mg/dL) greater than the international consensus target of 1% at 1 or 2 years. Peak glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucagon area under the curve during MMT were positively and negatively associated, respectively, with contemporaneous %TIR <3.0 mmol/L. CONCLUSIONS: Patients undergoing RYGB are at risk for development of postbariatric hypoglycemia due to a combination of reduced mean glucose, increased GV, and increased GLP-1 response

Chiral U(1) flavor models and flavored Higgs doublets: the top FB asymmetry and the Wjj

We present U(1) flavor models for leptophobic Z' with flavor dependent couplings to the right-handed up-type quarks in the Standard Model, which can accommodate the recent data on the top forward-backward (FB) asymmetry and the dijet resonance associated with a W boson reported by CDF Collaboration. Such flavor-dependent leptophobic charge assignments generally require extra chiral fermions for anomaly cancellation. Also the chiral nature of U(1)' flavor symmetry calls for new U(1)'-charged Higgs doublets in order for the SM fermions to have realistic renormalizable Yukawa couplings. The stringent constraints from the top FB asymmetry at the Tevatron and the same sign top pair production at the LHC can be evaded due to contributions of the extra Higgs doublets. We also show that the extension could realize cold dark matter candidates.Comment: 40 pages, 10 figures, added 1 figure and extended discussion, accepted for publication in JHE

Primary and malignant cholangiocytes undergo CD40 mediated Fas dependent Apoptosis, but are insensitive to direct activation with exogenous fas ligand

Introduction Cholangiocarcinoma is a rare malignancy of the biliary tract, the incidence of which is rising, but the pathogenesis of which remains uncertain. No common genetic defects have been described but it is accepted that chronic inflammation is an important contributing factor. We have shown that primary human cholangiocyte and hepatocyte survival is tightly regulated via co-operative interactions between two tumour necrosis family (TNF) receptor family members; CD40 and Fas (CD95). Functional deficiency of CD154, the ligand for CD40, leads to a failure of clearance of biliary tract infections and a predisposition to cholangiocarcinoma implying a direct link between TNF receptor-mediated apoptosis and the development of cholangiocarcinoma. Aims To determine whether malignant cholangiocytes display defects in CD40 mediated apoptosis. By comparing CD40 and Fas-mediated apoptosis and intracellular signalling in primary human cholangiocytes and three cholangiocyte cell lines. Results Primary cholangiocytes and cholangiocyte cell lines were relatively insensitive to direct Fas-mediated killing with exogenous FasL when compared with Jurkat cells, which readily underwent Fas-mediated apoptosis, but were extremely sensitive to CD154 stimulation. The sensitivity of cells to CD40 activation was similar in magnitude in both primary and malignant cells and was STAT-3 and AP-1 dependent in both. Conclusions 1) Both primary and malignant cholangiocytes are relatively resistant to Fas–mediated killing but show exquisite sensitivity to CD154, suggesting that the CD40 pathway is intact and fully functional in both primary and malignant cholangiocytes 2) The relative insensitivity of cholangiocytes to Fas activation demonstrates the importance of CD40 augmentation of Fas dependent death in these cells. Agonistic therapies which target CD40 and associated intracellular signalling pathways may be effective in promoting apoptosis of malignant cholangiocytes

    Supersymmetric contributions to Bˉsϕπ0\bar{B}_s \to \phi \pi^0 and Bˉsϕρ0\bar{B}_s \to \phi \rho^0 decays in SCET

We study the decay modes Bˉsϕπ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \pi^0 and Bˉsϕρ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0 using Soft Collinear Effective Theory. Within Standard Model and including the error due to the SU(3) breaking effect in the SCET parameters we find that BR Bˉsϕπ0=712+1+2×108\bar{B}_s\to \phi \pi^0 =7_{-1-2}^{+1+2}\times 10^{-8} and BR Bˉsϕπ0=914+1+3×108\bar{B}_s\to \phi \pi^0=9_{-1-4}^{+1+3}\times 10^{-8} corresponding to solution 1 and solution 2 of the SCET parameters respectively. For the decay mode Bˉsϕρ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0, we find that BR Bˉsϕρ0=20.2112+1+9×108\bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0 = 20.2^{+1+9}_{-1-12}\times 10^{-8} and BR Bˉsϕρ0=34.01.522+1.5+15×108 \bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0 = 34.0^{+1.5 + 15}_{-1.5-22}\times 10^{-8} corresponding to solution 1 and solution 2 of the SCET parameters respectively. We extend our study to include supersymmetric models with non-universal A-terms where the dominant contributions arise from diagrams mediated by gluino and chargino exchanges. We show that gluino contributions can not lead to an enhancement of the branching ratios of Bˉsϕπ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \pi^0 and Bˉsϕρ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0. In addition, we show that SUSY contributions mediated by chargino exchange can enhance the branching ratio of Bˉsϕπ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \pi^0 by about 14% with respect to the SM prediction. For the branching ratio of Bˉsϕρ0\bar{B}_s\to \phi \rho^0, we find that SUSY contributions can enhance its value by about 1% with respect to the SM prediction.Comment: 25 pages,5 figures, version accepted for publicatio
