Introduction: Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common agent of sexually transmitted infections. In pregnant women it can cause premature delivery. In newborns the clinical manifestation are pneumonia and conjunctivitis. Aim: The aim of the study was to estimate the perinatal transmission of Chlamydia trachomatis and the prevalence of neonatal complications. Material and methods: The study included 82 mothers with deliver

PURPOSE: The aim of the article is to analyze the impact of the implemented IT systems on the economic efficiency of construction industry enterprises in Poland.APPROACH/METHODOLOGY/DESIGN: In the framework of the presented article, the main research methods are our own surveys conducted on 300 people (n=300) among employees in various positions in construction companies. This research was supplemented with a review of world scientific literature and an in-depth interview among business practitioners among construction companies in Poland.FINDINGS: The obtained results will indicate the factors that determine the increase in the economic efficiency of enterprises and will enable the formulation of recommendations regarding the optimal implementation of IT systems.PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS: The practical implications of the research results contained in the article constitute recommendations for practical actions in the management of construction companies that bring measurable results and increase their economic efficiency.ORIGINALITY/VALUE: The original value of the article is the analysis of primary data obtained as part of a survey of construction enterprises in Poland and the development of recommendations regarding practical actions that increase the economic efficiency of enterprises. The project was financed within the framework of the program of the Minister of Science and Higher Education in Poland under the name “Regional Excellence Initiative” in the years 2019–2023, project number 001/RID/2018/19, the amount of financing PLN 10,684,000.00.peer-reviewe

Frailty syndrome in daily practice of interventional cardiology ward-rationale and design of the FRAPICA trial : a STROBE-compliant prospective observational study.

The effect of frailty on short and long term results of interventional treatment of coronary heart disease is not well defined. The evaluation of frailty may be helpful in appointment of most suitable treatment option and timing of patient follow-up. The frailty syndrome in daily practice of interventional cardiology ward (FRAPICA) study objective is to evaluate prognostic capability of the Fried frailty scale and instrumental activities of daily living scale (IADL) in elderly patients with symptomatic coronary heart disease. This is a single center, prospective, observational study. Patients aged ≥65 years are eligible. The objectives are to report Fried frailty scale and IADL scale dispersion before hospital discharge and to assess predictive impact of both scores. The endpoints are: success of interventional treatment, its complications (procedure related myocardial infarction, dye-induced renal function deterioration, loss of blood), 3-year mortality, either all-cause and cardiovascular, re-infarction, re-intervention, stroke, new-onset heart failure, any hospital readmission, and a combination of all above mentioned. Secondary analyses will focus on distinct clinical patient presentations, sub-classifications of frailty for modeling of long-term risk. FRAPICA trial will improve understanding of the associations between frailty syndrome, cardiovascular system diseases, their invasive treatment, and short and long-term outcomes. It will allow for more individualized assessment of risk and will identify new goals for interventions. (ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier NCT03209414

Association of low ficolin-2 concentration in cord serum with respiratory distress syndrome in preterm newborns

IntroductionFicolin-2 is a serum pattern recognition molecule, involved in complement activation via the lectin pathway. This study aimed to investigate the association of ficolin-2 concentration in cord blood serum with complications related to premature birth.Methods546 premature neonates were included. The concentration of ficolin-2 in cord blood serum was determined by a sandwich TRIFMA method. FCN2 genetic variants were analysed with RFLP-PCR, allele-specific PCR, Sanger sequencing or allelic discrimination using TaqMan probes method.FindingsCord blood serum ficolin-2 concentration correlated positively with Apgar score and inversely with the length of hospitalisation and stay at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that low ficolin-2 increased the possibility of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) diagnosis [OR=2.05, 95% CI (1.24-3.37), p=0.005]. Median ficolin-2 concentration was significantly lower in neonates with RDS than in premature babies without this complication, irrespective of FCN2 gene polymorphisms localised to promoter and 3’untranslated regions: for patients born <33 GA: 1471 ng/ml vs. 2115 ng/ml (p=0.0003), and for patients born ≥33 GA 1610 ng/ml vs. 2081 ng/ml (p=0.012). Ficolin-2 level was also significantly lower in neonates requiring intubation in the delivery room (1461 ng/ml vs. 1938 ng/ml, p=0.023) and inversely correlated weakly with the duration of respiratory support (R=-0.154, p<0.001). Interestingly, in the neonates born at GA <33, ficolin-2 concentration permitted differentiation of those with/without RDS [AUC=0.712, 95% CI (0.612-0.817), p<0.001] and effective separation of babies with mild RDS from those with moderate/severe form of the disease [AUC=0.807, 95% CI (0.644-0.97), p=0.0002].ConclusionLow cord serum ficolin-2 concentration (especially in neonates born at GA <33 weeks) is associated with a higher risk of developing moderate/severe RDS, requiring respiratory support and intensive care

MIGRACJE PRZYMUSOWE KUŁAKÓW UKRAIŃSKICH W XX-LECIU MIĘDZYWOJENNYM – STAN BADAŃ

The topic of the Holodomor in Ukraine and the following deportation of Ukrainian kulaks was taken up by many authors from around the world, such as Michał Klimecki, Stanisław Kulczycki, Nikolai Ivnitski, Еlena Chernolutskaya (Елена Чернолуцкая), Anna Reid, Timothy D. Snyder or Pavel Polyan. Forced relocations from Ukraine were aimed at eliminating possible enemies of the communist system. The mass deportations should be seen to take roots in the resolution of 27 December 1929, the Stalinist authorities, and specifically the All-Union Conference of Marxist Farmers who spoke on accelerating the collectivization of the village. Importantly, a resolution was adopted to start the campaign to liquidate the kulak farmers as a class
